A revolutionary combination of noise reduction and cooling.

Obsidian Series 550D is carefully engineered for noise reduction and sound isolation. But, it’s not just about keeping things quiet — there’s amazing cooling potential, lots of expansion flexibility, and the durability that Obsidian Series is renowned for.

  • newegg Superior airflow for high-performance PCs Obsidian Series 550D comes with two front-mounted 120mm intake fans and one 120mm exhaust fan – more than enough for delivering the airflow required for a high-performance system. But if you’re pushing past high performance and into the realm of extreme-performance overclocking, there’s room for a lot more. The top panel provides room for two 120mm or 140mm fans, or a 240mm radiator for compatibility with Corsair Hydro Series CPU coolers and other liquid cooling systems. The side panel has mounting points for another two 120mm or 140mm fans for cooling multiple GPUs. In total, the 550D offers ten 120mm fan mounting points, six of which can also accommodate 140mm fans.
  • newegg The silent treatment With many high-end PC cases, cooling is often provided without consideration for noise. Not so with the 550D: the front and side panels are fully lined with sound-damping material, and the top and side panels have their own sound-insulated vent covers to reduce noise leakage from unused fan mounting locations. The front air intakes are angled away from the front of the case for noise reduction, and the fans and drive bays use silicone mounts to reduce vibration noise. The result is a platform for building high-performance PCs you can live with.
  • newegg Smart features for serious builders The extra touches like magnetically mounted dust filters and one-button side panel removal make building fun, and using a 550D-based system a rewarding experience. Expansion is easy, with eight expansion slots, six tool-free hard drive bays with removable caddies and integrated 2.5” SSD support, and four tool-free optical drive bays. The top drive cage can be removed to accommodate GPUs of up to 452mm in length. The diamond-cut brushed aluminum front panel houses two high-speed USB 3.0 connectors and audio ports.
  • newegg The Obsidian Series: Designed by builders, for builders World-class Obsidian Series cases are made from stamped steel and brushed aluminum, providing both outstanding durability and great looks. State-of-the-art features are engineered with the singular purpose of meeting the needs of professional builders, high-end system integrators, and performance enthusiasts. Builds are straightforward and efficient, and there’s room for nearly any system configuration you can imagine.

5 out of 5 eggsH100i fits in the Corsair 550D case

Pros: Build quality is awesome! The noise from the front intake fans is really suppressed well. I am running Corsair SP120 High Performance PWM fans as intakes in the front running at 1,200 rpms [60%] and is really quiet. I have the H100i installed at the top of the case as an exhaust config with Corsair SP120 Quiet Edition PWM fans running at 1100 rpms [80%] and is also very quiet. I left the side panel pop out off and my rig is still quiet and cool. I love this setup. Corsair has a winning combo IMHO.

Cons: This case is sleek looking in my opinion, but has one attribute that might not be desirable by some. When you touch the case, the texture of the case is course it cause it to show where you touched it. Looks like skin rubbed off. Wipes off easily but its kind of textured a bit much in my opinion. Still a really nice case, just don't touch it! =]

Other Thoughts: If you want a quiet and professional looking case, but this one!

5 out of 5 eggsA really fine, quiet case

Pros: Comfortable amount of space to play with.
Quiet, almost ridiculously so with some other noise-abating components like quiet fans and rubber washers.
Sleek look.
Easy to open for upgrades and maintenance.

Cons: All "things that would be nice": nothing here is a dealbreaker.
I'd like some more space behind the motherboard to run cabling.
I'd like the front cover panel to be able to be attached and still have the fans be useful.

5 out of 5 eggsif you r looking for quite...PC

Pros: i was looking for pc with sound form.(reduce noise)
i checked other brand, with sound form. but, this one got better quality.

front, side, top, cover with form.(good quality), and u can remove, if you want use radiator, or fan.

Cons: this is not that nice air cooling pc case.
if you want use 5.25 drive bay, have to open every time, or u can remove front door panel.

Other Thoughts: good for money.

i am very happy with this case.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing

Pros: When the time had finally come to replace my Supermicro-parts based workstation, I decide to grant my wife's wish to get something quiet. This Corsair case came up and the review were a touch mixed with respect to the sound level. Which doesn't make sense, this case is so incredibly quiet that I would think it was switched off if the monitor weren't showing me otherwise. It was also very easy to build up, compensating well for the very limited documentation.

Cons: If I have to mention a negative, it would be the very limited documentation.

5 out of 5 eggs4.95 stars

Pros: Clean, simple, understated style. Solid, well-engineered design. Excellent cable management. Reasonably quiet with good air flow. Room enough for pretty much any CPU fan/cooler you want.

Cons: The side vent cover was a little finicky to put back on. That's it, really.

Other Thoughts: I guess I'm an old fart but I wanted a sleek, no nonsense case that didn't look like it was assimilated by the Borg. This case is it. After having a case with poor cable management (five years old...what cable management?) I'm digging how neat and tucked away my cables are now. Almost as uncluttered on the inside as on the outside. Semi-toolless design and more than adequate hardware kit made installation painless, quick, and easy.

5 out of 5 eggsStately and Quiet

Pros: * Tool-less design
* Nearly every opening is covered by a magnetic dust filter.
* Quieter than average
* Keeps things cool inside despite being insulated
* Beautifully understated exterior, beautifully clean interior.

Cons: * "Quiet", not "silent"
* Except for beautiful brushed-aluminum front, the exterior of the case is a rough-textured plastic. If you set something dusty on top, the dust gets into the "pores" and leaves lighter spots in the otherwise black exterior. While the spots can't be simply wiped away, a damp cloth makes short work of them.

Other Thoughts: This is the second machine I've built with this case. The first was a server for a construction company without a server room. The server was to be placed in an office connected to a dusty warehouse. The quiet operation was appreciated by the office staff, and the magnetic dust filters keep the expensive parts clean while being easy enough for any of the staff to clean regularly. In this environment, the case was completely inaudible.

The second build was for my home work/gaming PC. In this environment, the case fans are audible. However, all it takes is the white noise of the furnace blower to completely drown out any sound from the case. This is a giant step up from my previous case.

The tool-less design is great. Even the optical drive simply snaps in when it is aligned properly. My only complaint was the method of securing a 2.5" drive (like an SSD). This will require 4 small screws to attach the drive to the 3.5" plastic shelf. Not exactly 'tool-less" at that point... but the tray does slide in and out without any additional tools.

There are plenty of places to route cables, and with a bit of effort the inside of your case can look so clean that it almost looks like the components aren't connected at all. This does wonders for airflow, which is especially important in an insulated case.

If you're going to use this as a gaming case, the most important recommendation I would make is to use a GPU with a blower-style fan, and not an axial fan. I know, axial fans are supposed to be quieter, and this is a "quiet" case. The problem is that axial fans blow a lot of heat inside the case, which means they end up spinning faster... as does your CPU fan, and any other fans controlled by your motherboard. All those fans running at high speed are going to be a lot louder than one GPU blower spinning at a moderate speed. If you absolutely must use a GPU with an axial flan, I'd recommend adding a quiet PCI slot case fan to help get that heat out back where it belongs.

Overall, great case!

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Very Nice Case. Very Large. Very Sturdy. Millions of extra pieces.

Cons: A cotton ball could and will scratch the exterior paint.

Other Thoughts: If you'r going to move this case around a lot and care about looks this product may not be for you. If you don't care about of few blemishes this is a beast of a case for a decent price.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible Service

Pros: Awesome case other than a bad USB 3.0 header.

Cons: Corsair has unbelievably bad customer service. Their web interface is horrendous and it's a major hassle to get your trouble ticket logged. The interface doesn't work with ie11. Using chrome, I was finally able to register my ticket. I received e-mail confirmation that I would be contacted within 24 hours and still no contact a week later. Ridiculous.

When you call them, you just sit on hold for 15 - 30 minutes and then they dump you into voice mail.

If you call, I recommend pushing 2 for customer service because it's more probable that you will get a live person.

I've put over 3 hours into getting a USB 3.0 header fixed. That's horrendous, especially since it seems Corsair knew about the bad lot and could have fixed this proactively.

I love the case other than the header but I won't buy or recommend another Corsair product because you should expect NO service from them.

If you get this case just make sure everything works first so that you can work through the reliable Newegg customer service and not Corsair.

Other Thoughts: Did I mention AWFUL Corsair customer service?

5 out of 5 eggsGreat case, easy-to-install and maintain

Pros: I've had this case for almost two months now and it's been a huge upgrade from the Antec 300 I was using prior. Once you understand how all the moveable parts and tool-less integrations work, it became easy to install parts without worry. Also the magnetic dust filters (front, side, top, and bottom) are truly fantastic and keep the inside much easier to clean/maintain.

Cons: Although the rubber stoppers for the fans are a great idea, I destroyed 8 of them in attempt to remove/install fans, and sadly there were no replacements in the box.

Other Thoughts: The case is huge, which I knew coming in, but lifting this thing will give you a bit of a work out.

4 out of 5 eggsThe quiet and clean Beast

Pros: Easy to build in.
Motherboard mounts up easily, with no standoffs need for installation. The backplate is cutout so you can install an aftermarket CPU cooler with a MOBO installed.
6 HDD/SSD slots, divided into two cages. The middle cage is removable to allow for better cooling.
Fans are almost silent at idle, not annoying at all.
Doors are easily removed and attached.
DVD/CD drives sit flush against the front, no mismatch.

With everything installed and closed, it is VERY quiet. But certainly not silent.

Cons: The area where the MOBO mounts may be a little tight for any ATX MOBO that has the SATA connectors that lay flat at the bottom right hand corner. This may block SATA slot #1 for a larger (non-standard) ATX format.

Fans - not the best, not the worst, just average.

Other Thoughts: It's large. Know that coming in. It may be fine if that's what you want, but if you are looking for a smaller mid-ATX case, this may be too big for your taste.
This case will help silent whisper-quiet components, as well as help tame those that are fairly quiet.
For a GPU running at full fan speed, this won't block out all the noise, but a good chunk of it.
