5 out of 5 eggsA decent HTPC case

Pros: A nice looking case for a decent price, with power supply. I like how the DVD face plate covers the DVD logo's and gives a clean look. The dual fans in the back are quiet, I don't notice them running if I'm not listening for them.

The case is well worth the $70 I paid and works as advertised. Hard to argue with that. That and it has a nice look to it. I thought about 4 stars, but realized, for the price, it's 5 stars. If I wanted more I should pay more.

Cons: Blue LED is way to bright for an HTPC case. I, like another reviewer, ended up putting some black tape over it. I guess I could pop the front cover off and clip the wires, but black tape works also.

Other Thoughts: A good case for the money. The power supply only had 2 SATA power connections, but since I had a spare converter it wasn't a big deal. The first time you pop the front cover off it can be pretty disconcerting.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Very quiet and with the LED's disconnected, very unobtrusive in a living room for HTPC application.

Cons: Limited internal drive bays. For such a large and roomy case more bays would be nice.

Power supply is JUNK. Just throw it away. Old style MB connectors. Mine put out a lot of RF noise to the point of being illegal (I was advised that I was creating FCC part 15 interference and ordered to cease). Doesn't matter, PS died 2 days later. I had 1 HDD, no CD/DVD and not overclocking so barely using 200 watts. Unfortunately 30 day warranty and my FCC notice and failed PS came on days 40 & 42.

1 out of 5 eggsJanky - I Bought Three

Pros: This case is hella cheap. I mean there is not one extra ounce of metal to spare in this thing. With additional rebate, these were ~ $30. Wow. Totally worth it at this price.

Cons: I bought three of these, one red, one blue, and one green. Needs love.

Easy cons: 4Pin cpu power is dated at best. There are adapters available in Newegg. There are missing holes necessary to support the full ATX MB standard.

They all needed some love. 1/3 booted on first try.

There is a secret power switch that is internal to the case (pull off front panel to find) that I would have never knew of if they shipped in the "on" position. Fixed this on two which brought me to 2/3 working.

The last one had a defective power extension cable which brings the power from the back of the case to the "front" hidden panel where it connects to the PSU. I replaced this with a longerish cable that hang jankily out of the back of the case. I would be satisfied if the manufacturer replaced this cable for me.

Other Thoughts: I learned how to test a power supply using a multimeter. I guess that is a skill I never knew I wanted.

Manufacturer Response:

If you need help with the case, you can contact Apevia's customer service at or call at (909) 718-0789. We try to reply to all calls and e-mails as soon as we can.

4 out of 5 eggsAppears good but PSU + GPU beware

Pros: Overall this case seems pretty good for an HTPC case. From my short ownership, the pros are:
-- Easy to disassemble and reassemble.
-- Face plate didn't feel so brittle that it would break when lifted off.
-- Inexpensive for an HTPC case.
-- Nice color selection.
-- The red is actually a nice metallic red color (this is NOT pinkish).
-- Mounting options are smart and utilize the space as well as possible.
-- Well packaged.
-- Comes with rubber feet which you can stick on based on how you want to utilize the case.

Cons: The biggest con was that I couldn't fit my video card and power supply in the case. While the layout seems intended to help reduce the overall size (actually a good thing), it unfortunately goes a bit too far.

My PSU is a CORSAIR HX Series HX750 which is longer than the PSU included with the case. The GPU I chose is the SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 7850 OC 2GB. When combined in the case they don't fit. Sadly, it's very close. About a 1/2 inch more and it would probably have worked. I might have even been able to get it to work if the video card hadn't had about 1/4 an inch extra/unnecessary plastic on the cover/fan housing - it looks nice, but so far as I can tell, that extra bit of plastic serves no purpose on the card.

-- May not accommodate larger video cards IF you also purchase a larger power supply. If you stick with a standard sized power supply (i.e., square) or a shorter video card, you should be fine.
-- Has a few rough, unfinished, and sharp edges internally. Not terrible given the price, but you can cut yourself on them.
-- There is only one PCI slot cover. The others are just flimsy metal that you have to work back and forth to break free and do not go back into the slots they came from. Again, not the end of the world for a case this price.

Other Thoughts: Overall, I maintain that this is a pretty good case for the price.

What is truly sad though is if APEVIA had only added an extra two inches to their case length, this would probably have worked just fine.

4 out of 5 eggsgood case

Pros: Lots of room for a media center case, not thin like some cases i have bought

Cons: The color is pink not red .

Other Thoughts: make sure you allow for the wires from the back of the case because this case is almost 18 inches deep so you need more than 18 inches on your entertainment center.

5 out of 5 eggsWhy pay more?

Pros: Great looking case
Well built.
Its actually red unlike the previous line of this model (which people were complaining it was more of a pink metallic.)
Decent PSU.
Nice airflow.

Cons: My only two issues with this case, is that cable management was kind of a pain with supplied PSU. But then again its not a modular unit.
Secondly, my CD/DVD drive took some work to seat. The provided side clips made it too big to fit in and without them the drive still did not line up. When I had tried to slide it in evenly, I was block by metal bumps on each side. So I had to unfortunately take a small hammer to beat them down. Not too big of a deal though.

Other Thoughts: Overall this is a nice case. I could have spent more, but it looks good. Keep in mind though that if your PC does not fire up, it is because the PSU switch is in the "off" position. Had to take a flash light to front grill to see it and slide a thin screwdriver to flip it on. And don't bother with an aftermarket CPU fan. Stick with stick. Reason being is that you actually have a side vent that allows a 120mm case fan. I had one lying around and had it pulling in air and blowing straight against the cpu/fan/heatsink. Idle temps at 27 and doesn't go above 45 on full load. There is another on the opposite side. Do the same thing and your video card temps will drop as well.
Final thought: Just buy it. They come in a few colors. No point in spending over $100 and another $50+ for a PSU. Built my Media PC for under $400.
GREAT JOB Newegg!!!

4 out of 5 eggsNot Bad

Pros: Great looking case. Optional side fans is a plus. FREE PSU!!! And its actually red.

Cons: Installation was a little bit of a pain.

Other Thoughts: Installing my CD/DVD drive. It was impossible to get the drive in with the supplied screwless adapters as there was these metal obstructions on each side of the inside of bay. So I took a hammer(lol) to pound down those annoying bumps. And even with it finally installed, it still sat a little recessed inward. They should have made the drive cage removable. Not a lot of space for hiding cables. Should have bought a modular PSU but I wasn't trying to spend a whole lot on something that is meant for home theater use.
I ended up using a stock fan/heatsink for my Phenom II x3 because I was on a budget and figured I would add an aftermarket later. However the right optional fan opening sits right next to the CPU. So I installed a 120mm case fan that I just happened to have lying around and set it to pull in air pushing air onto the proc, fan/heatsink. On idle it stays around the 24 30 range and 36 to 43 on full load. So there's no need to buy another one.
In any case I don't

5 out of 5 eggsHigh Quality

Pros: This case is sturdy. Everything about it is quality. Nice piano black finish on top/bottom and sides. Great color on the aluminum faceplate. It comes with big rubber feet you can place on the bottom or side (desktop or tower configuration). Two SATA power connectors. I had plenty of room for everything.

Cons: No 8 pin power connector for newer CPUs, an adapter or different PSU would be needed.

Other Thoughts: I didn't realize that the optical drive would sit behind a cover that flips down when the drive is opened. That silver button you see in the pictures is not just for show--it works!

4 out of 5 eggsDecent case, you may need some extra parts

Pros: Fits everything in a fairly small footprint for a full ATX HTPC case.

Solid construction.

Easy cable management and easy installation of everything I needed.

Considering the price it was a pretty good value.

Cons: Missing screws.

Motherboard standoffs spin in place, meaning something wasn't threated right, making it very difficult to screw down the motherboard. I did eventually get everything down but it was a bit of a headache.

Those are my primary reasons for taking eggs. The following is fairly minor.

Only one internal 3.5" bay (although I knew this going in). I had some spare 3.5" to 5.25" adapters lying around so I used one of them to fit double hard drives. There is an external 3.5" bay that can be used for a hard drive if you aren't using it (I am).

Other Thoughts: It takes some maneuvering to get the motherboard in. If you're having issues try removing the double 80mm rear fans. They're on a plastic slider so it only takes two screws and they slide right out.

Be VERY careful with your standoffs.

Manufacturer Response:

Aside from the obvious internal and external 3.5" drive bays, you can also install hard drives on the two "grills" on the sides if you do not use them for fan mounts.
