4 out of 5 eggsBeautiful case, poor airflow

This review is from: NZXT H230 Black ATX Mid Tower Computer Case Includes 1 x 120mm Front, 1 x 120mm Rear 2 x USB 3.0

Pros: Right off the bat: this is a gorgeous case. I bought it because I needed a case for my father's gaming rig that had (1) cable management behind the motherboard (2) tool-less HDD/SDD/5.25" bays (3) relatively quiet (4) opening on mobo tray to mount CPU backplate/HSF (4) professional aesthetics.

You wont find sophomoric glowing LED shenanigans here, just plain minimalist aesthetics on the outside with modern cable management and (mostly) tool-less 5.25" and HDD/SSD bays on the inside. There are two HDD/SSD racks, each with 3 bays, but the top rack is removable via simple thumb screw. This is ideal for situations where you have a long videocard, but I did not need to remove the rack to fit a HD7970 which is 10.4" long. The case comes with 2x 120mm fans: one for intake and one for exhaust, but there are 2 additional spaces for intake on the front and bottom of the case, which you will most likely need to fill.

And yes, it fits the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO heatsink & fan.

Cons: Airflow leaves a lot to be desired. This case only includes 2x 120mm fans of the 4 available slots (3x intake 1x exhaust). In our use case, we had Core i5 750 OC'd to 3.3GHz coupled with the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO and a Radeon HD7970. These are big heat generators. Before adding an additional intake fan, we were running up against 90C at load on the GPU and flirting with 70C on the CPU. We transplanted another 120mm NZXT fan from another case, and brought down load temperatures an entire 20C on the GPU and 10C on the CPU. Bottom line, if you're using parts with low heat output, you could probably get away without adding additional airflow fans. In our case, the addition of a single 120mm intake fan meant a huge different. The stock fans themselves are a little too noisy for the amount of airflow they provide (40 CFM / 25 dBA). We're going to upgrade all of the airflow fans to Cougar CF-V12HPB's soon (70 CFM / 18 dBA), just waiting for the hardware to arrive.

Lastly, the HDD/SSD trays aren't very sturdy. You'll notice as you slide them out, they're very loose in their slots. This creates potential for vibrations; just something to watch out for.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat build case

This review is from: NZXT H230 Black ATX Mid Tower Computer Case Includes 1 x 120mm Front, 1 x 120mm Rear 2 x USB 3.0

Pros: This case's design made building very easy. Toolless case that is actually a toolless case. You still need a driver for sysboard and power supply install.
Great wire management with room for the cables to be out of the air stream. The sound damping works very well. Doesn't fully silent the case, but lowers to a nice low hum.

This was a case replacement for computer that was built new in 2009. After this experience I will be using NZXT cases for all future builds. You can tell that the engineers that designed this case have actually built rigs before.

Cons: No extra fasteners were included with case. Power supply fastening screws didn't fit my power supply properly, could be due to age.

Other Thoughts: Would like to see just a 1/2 inch more clearance on the backside for more cable management room.

5 out of 5 eggsSleek and Smooth

This review is from: NZXT H230 Black ATX Mid Tower Computer Case Includes 1 x 120mm Front, 1 x 120mm Rear 2 x USB 3.0

Pros: Slick looking quiet case while on a budget. There isn't much else to say. If you're the type that doesn't want a side window to the inside of a PC collecting dust or 1000 flashing LED lights giving your pet or small child a seizure, this case is for you.

Cons: This isn't your case if you want 10000 LED lights. If "oooo flashies" is your thing, please look elsewhere. On a serious note, this also isn't the case for you if you're looking to overclock or stuff the latest steel melting AMD/RADEON combo inside of it. NXT is an awesome brand and they built this thing solid for the price point, but if you're looking for extreme cooling options this isn't the case for you.

Other Thoughts: Arrived early and everything fit perfectly inside of it. Awesome product.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Case on a Budget

This review is from: NZXT H230 Black ATX Mid Tower Computer Case Includes 1 x 120mm Front, 1 x 120mm Rear 2 x USB 3.0

Pros: This case has excellent build quality, had modular drive bays, and extremely nifty and well-designed drive trays that accomodate HDs and SSDs at 5.25 or 2.5 inches. They are flexible, but that is part of the design. With the stock fans it is very quiet, and with aftermarket fans you will get even better results. Beautiful paint job, appealing aeshetics, slim and not too heavy.

Cons: Cannot incorporate large CPU coolers. Somewhat lacking of airflow with just the two stock fans.

Other Thoughts: Very happy with this case :)

5 out of 5 eggsGreat case

This review is from: NZXT H230 Black ATX Mid Tower Computer Case Includes 1 x 120mm Front, 1 x 120mm Rear 2 x USB 3.0

Pros: Professional looking case. Ample room for hard drives. Power supply location is good. Super quiet and sturdy.

Cons: As others have mentioned, fingerprints galore. Does not ventilate very well with stock fans and the sound deadening which acts like insulation. Power and reset button location sucks. Side panel could be easier to remove.

Pros: high hard drive capacity
bottom mountable psu
quiet
excellent build quality
glossy paint

Cons: top mounted power & reset buttons. would have been nice to see the buttons on a side panel
glossy paint is nice but it does show finger prints
i received my case with a defective front input panel & small bend in the psu bracket.

Other Thoughts: perfect case for a budget quiet build that's needed in a dorm room or office

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: NZXT H230 Black ATX Mid Tower Computer Case Includes 1 x 120mm Front, 1 x 120mm Rear 2 x USB 3.0

Pros: -Very quiet (quiet enough I barely know it's sitting on the desk next to me, even when running Prime95).
-Clean lines for a decent price (there seems to be an inverse relationship between taste and price when it comes to computer cases...)
-Plenty of space inside.
-The LEDs aren't uselessly bright (soft white, for the record, which was something I didn't expect, but was a pleasant surprise nonetheless).
-The power/reset buttons are low travel and delightfully positive/clicky.
-Lots of places for fans.
-USB 3.0 front headers.

Cons: -The space behind the motherboard could be a little deeper (the foam takes up an extra quarter inch where it otherwise wouldn't be a problem).
-Shows dust and fingerprints like none other.
-Only four screws for the front two fans (four for the one included, zero for the extra space).
-The 5.25" drive bay locks are... finicky? They work, but they're not the best design.

Other Thoughts: Overall, very impressed with this case. Aesthetically, this case is near perfect for what I wanted (black, clean lined, with a front door).

It's a very solid case for the money; the computer I have in it has been a on-going project for the better part of a year, and it's held up being moved around and opened a bunch of times.

4 out of 5 eggsgood value with a few quirks

This review is from: NZXT H230 Black ATX Mid Tower Computer Case Includes 1 x 120mm Front, 1 x 120mm Rear 2 x USB 3.0

Pros: Quiet, many drive bays, front usb 3.0, lots of screws (also a con)

Cons: Difficult plastic holders for both the drive bays and the hard drives, not a lot of depth between the sides, not much cable space for board power behind case side. Case sides must be attached with thumbscrews to stay put. Lots of screws that don't seem to fit anything but no extras for fans

Other Thoughts: Before I did anything else I removed all the case fans and replaced them with 120mm coolermaster fans. Reading other reviews, I decided this would make it quietest so I can't say if the existing fans were noisy or not but it is really pretty quiet now. Getting the front cover off wasn't too hard but I managed to put some scratches on the case maneuvering it. Luckily I don't care about scratches (or the fingerprints that get everywhere). I put two fans in the front but there were only enough screws for one (4 screws). You'd think with the multiple bags of screws they give you there would be extras of the long fan screws but no. Fortunately I guess, two screws are good enough to secure each fan. I wish there was a little more depth between the case sides. I ended up not using the 212 EVO CPU cooler I bought and instead used a TX3 that I have been happy with in other builds. I decided it was just too cramped inside with that large of a CPU cooler blocking off the case airflow. I also had to push pretty hard to get the right side cover back on after running my cables. The 24 pin power cable for the mobo is pretty thick so it takes space, otherwise the rest fit fine. My power switch in the front does not light up so I think there is a problem with the led, not worth an RMA. To avoid confusion between it and the reset button I used a gray sharpie to outline the power button. I also used the sharpie to highlight the little slash / that indicates the microphone jack and the omega-like symbol that indicates the headphone jack. These are just black imprinted on black so impossible to tell them apart otherwise! The clips that hold the DVD drive in are rather flimsy plastic and fell off several times before I got them to hold the drive in properly. Overall the case is a good value if you get it cheaply. It is very quiet compared to my old Antec case and my temps are not high at all so there must be enough air flow. Once I got everything in and running with a few modifications I am happy with it. My main desires were for front usb 3.0 and audio, good airflow and quiet operation so this case met my criteria.

4 out of 5 eggsNice for the price

This review is from: NZXT H230 Black ATX Mid Tower Computer Case Includes 1 x 120mm Front, 1 x 120mm Rear 2 x USB 3.0

Pros: It looks great, although not as good as its white counterpart. This was on sale though for 39.99 after rebate, so I got it at a great price. This case is heavier than I expected, but it's a nice, solid feel. It has that modern NZXT look and is pretty glossy. It's great that one of the HDD cages is removable. Quite some room for components and what not. The two included fans are of pretty nice quality.

Cons: Its glossiness attracts fingerprints and dust very quickly. As a pet owner, this sucks. There's not much room for cables in the back, so the back panel was pretty hard to get back on after installing everything. The HDD racks are a bit flimsy and a few fell out the first time I tilted the case back. This is a problem for 2.5 inch drives but not so much for the 3.5 inch ones. The USB 3.0 cable for the front ports is a dual cable, meaning it has a larger end. I can't use it because my motherboard has separated USB 3.0 ports on it that require 2 separate 10-pin connectors. Also, I can't seem to find the system speaker or cable for it, so diagnosing boot issues will be a challenge.

Other Thoughts: A great case for the price, but the white one looks better. Lots of room inside but not much on the back side. If you can, go with a Fractal r4 or an H440 for a similar aesthetic but much higher quality.
