Apex’s DM-317-A case is a great choice for instances where you don’t have a lot of space for a system. Its small size makes it a good choice for an HTPC.

The drive bay housing tilts up for easy installation. There are two external bays, one 5.25” and one 3.5”. There is also an internal 3.5” hard drive bay. The front panel also has two audio jacks, one FireWire port and two USB ports. Once everything is installed put the lid back on and you’re good to go.

5 out of 5 eggsGood case for the money

Pros: Very well made. Front bezel is the only plastic on it. Rest of the case is made of steel, and is very well put together. No issues with the rear faceplate for the mobo, it lines up perfectly. PSU has a good number of connections for what you can fit in the case. The hard drive fit perfectly. All mounting holes lined up well. Really quite an easy case to work in considering the size of it. The DVD/HDD rack comes out completely without tools, but is very securely mounted when in, which makes installing drives easier.

Cons: Since I have to have something here, there's an eighth inch gap between the front bezel and DVD drive face. It might not even be that much. Arguably a non-issue, but it'd be nice to have just a bit less room.

Cons: The power supply stopped working just out NEWEGG warranty

Other Thoughts: Don't buy this stuff or other stuff branded APEX

4 out of 5 eggsGood case

Pros: Good looking, sturdy, decent price.

Cons: Unable put any card reader or removable 2.5" cages in the ext 3.5" bay since the screw options are from the bottom where most card readers & 3.5" to 2.5" bays comes with screws from sides. So virtually the ext 3.5" bay is useless, unless you install a 3.5" hdd or a floppy drive(who is uses floppy?).

Other Thoughts: Overall a good case. It would have been great if the removable cage did not have the above mentioned problem.

3 out of 5 eggsAverage Low-Profile Case

Pros: Slim and decent looking.
Lasted for over 5 years and still going strong.

Cons: Very noisy fan.
Pretty cramped inside the case...but it is slim!

Other Thoughts: The fan noise had been really bothersome, so I ended up upgrading it to a more quiet version. I gave the system to my parents a few years back, and the case is still holding up nicely.

3 out of 5 eggsJust About Right

Pros: Light, comes with stands for vertical option, sleek-ish

Cons: Larger then I thought it was going to be, the folding drive cage is hard to close and keep the cables clear.

Other Thoughts: Meh.. I used it for a HTPC and it's getting the job done.

2 out of 5 eggsDecent case

Pros: Has a nice look to it, and the drive cage system works pretty well.

Cons: The i/o backplate wouldn't fit into the case, it was about 3mm too small and I wound up bending it trying to make it fit. I put it in another case and it fit fine after bending it back. I'm becoming increasingly concerned with the 12v rating on HWMONITOR reading as 8.xxV and will probably be replacing that in the next month. Although the case is a small form factor, it is on the larger size for the HTPC cases of similar price points.

Other Thoughts: After taking a second glance at what else is available around this price range, I wish I would've chosen something else, or maybe chipped in a few extra bucks for a better PSU. I can deal with everything else, but if the PSU goes out soon I'm going to be deeply regretting this purchase.

5 out of 5 eggsBravo

Pros: Good price, decent look, good construction.

Cons: Well it is spitting out black soot into my computer from the power supply that came with it.

Other Thoughts: Ok, so I bought this item in April of 2011 and it has served me well (and still is). I bought it as a case for its intended purpose, a media center. The power supply is rated for 275 watts and I am running a system that is pulling about 300-315, hence the black soot, never the less it has never given out on me despite my abusing its limits, the front panel works flawlessly and the only thing I might gripe about is the fact that their is no space to put wires, but thats nothing a few zip ties and some wire management velcro can't fix. The only other thing I have to mention is that my case came with a rusty screwdriver and a broken piece of glass, and no... it was not an open box purchase. :/ I just laughed and threw those away. Good purchase and would recommend for anybody just trying to run a small, low power consumption system.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat case!

Pros: nice and heavy construction
rubber feets
simple installation (didnt need the manual)

Cons: the fan was kind of loud, rewired it for 5v use works great now though :)

another thing was the front button and led wires were maybe an inch short had to really stretch them to plug them in (not worth losing an egg imo)

Other Thoughts: who ever said this thing is flimsy is full of bananas :D its a pretty heavy steel case, youd have to try to bed anything in this thing
