The Smilodon case from Raidmax makes assembling a system easier than ever before. It has a modular, tool-less design that makes the initial build and future upgrades easy. Both side panels latch into place for easy access. For the ultimate in convenience the right side panel has the motherboard tray completed with backplate attached. This lets you install the mobo and all your cards, then lock it into the case as a single unit.

Drive installation couldn’t be easier. The external bays all use Clicklock technology, just slide the drive into the bay and lock it into place. The hard drive rack is removable for easy installations and upgrades. All of the necessary drive rails come in a slide out box so you don’t lose them.

Once you have everything assembled you need to make sure it stays cool. In addition to the fan on the 500W power supply Raidmax has loaded the case with plenty of additional fans. A 120mm fan is mounted on the front of the case to draw cool air in and blow it across the hard drives. Side and rear mounted 80mm fans keep the air moving over all critical components. There is also an 80mm fan with blue LEDs that mounts to a support brace that holds your expansion cards steady and blows cool outside air over them.

  • newegg Convenient Installation The Raidmax Smilodon features a fully removable motherboard tray for easy system upgrade without removing your PCIe/AGP/PCI cards. Plus the tool-free design ensures quick assembly of other devices without the need for any tool, saving your precious time.
  • newegg Transparent Side Panel Window The Raidmax Smilodon’s fantastic transparent side panel window provides a direct view of the inner system. An 80mm side fan with blue LEDs improves interior airflow and looks simply amazing too.
  • newegg Superior Expandability with 10 Drive Bays Featuring four 5.25" external drive bays, and six 3.5” drive bays (two external and four internal), the Raidmax Smilodon provides superior expandability.
  • newegg Efficient Ventilation The Raidmax Smilodon features one 120mm front intake fan, three 80mm fans and side vents for efficient ventilation and effective system cooling.
  • newegg Video Card Cooler and Stabilizer The side video card stabilizer with an 80mm fan cools your video card and prevents it from moving for enhanced system stability.
  • newegg Built-in 500W PSU The Raidmax Smilodon is equipped with a powerful 500W power supply unit to feed energy-consumptive systems, making every computer component run robustly.

5 out of 5 eggsIncredible Case

Pros: -Fold down side panels for easy access

-A ton of bay space for HDDs and optical drives

-storage unit and compartment build into the inside-bottom of the case. This is used to store screws, cable ties, mounting brackets, pin extenders, etc. (Incredibly convenient!)

-More fans than I've ever had! 2 large fans in the rear-top and the front-bottom along with two fans over the CPU and the PCI cards

-Front panel cover. (See also in cons)

-Blue LEDs on the front panel cover and one of the fans.

Cons: -The front panel cover IS a neat feature, however I have problems with mine. The primary one is walking by it when it's open and nearly damaging the door. I understand that is a user error and not necessarily a product flaw, but it is important to keep in mind if you are working in a small space. In addition, the front panel cover has a total of 5 LEDs on it. Two on the top and bottom which also run up the side through a clear tube and three running horizontally up the face. The absolute middle LED works occasionally. I'm not sure if it is a wiring/manufacturer issue or a user error, but it isn't enough to dock an egg for. It's just for show, and I'm the only one who sees it.

Other Thoughts: The power supply packaged with this chassis is nowhere near close to providing the power I need to run my rig.

CPU: AMD A10-5800K Trinity Quad-Core 3.8GHz
MB: ASUS A88X-PLUS FM2+ / FM2 AMD
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
VCard1: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560
VCard2: NVIDIA GeForce 210
Optical: Samsung DVD Burner SATA
USB Peripherals: MIDI Keyboard Controller & Audio-Technica Condenser Microphone

Running this rig with a 630 Watt PSU, I still don't have enough power to run all of my fans and LEDs at the same time. Therefore, in my opinion, the 500W PSU bundled with this case is a joke.

5 out of 5 eggsAlmost 5 Years and 2 Upgrades And Still Good

Pros: - Easy to work in and the motherboard tray that folds down is a huge win
- Tool-less installation of SSDs, HDDs, ODDs are nice
- Easy opening of the sides of the computer with the levers
- Built like a tank and won't bend or lose any structural integrity even with a ton of components being installed inside this case
- Plenty of airflow with two (2) 120mm fans (intake and exhaust, front and rear, respectively)
- Front panel is easy to remove and clean the 120mm intake fan

Cons: - Previous to 2012, 80mm fans were still pretty common in computer cases, so, this might turn you off since the extra fans you can install will have to be 80mm fans
- The front panel is easy to remove for cleaning the 120mm intake fan but you have to be careful with the wires for the front panel buttons and the LED wiring when putting the front cover back on

Other Thoughts: - At-the-time, the 80mm fans were not an issue but, now-a-days, it might be for most people. Most will want quieter operation (you could remove them but at the expense of airflow).
- The company should have a revised version of this case (I heard that they have but it's not really the same, but I digress). Build one that is slightly larger, paint the inside with a rubberized paint, and have it allow 120mm or 140mm fans, and, voila! You have a nice revised version of this case that many have come to like and enjoy over the years.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Looks good, comes with power pack, good air circulation, clear side panel. Having both sides that open make for easy MB installation.

Cons: The side bar and the fan on the clear side of the case initially blocked an after market CPU heat sink that I installed. Had to remove the bar and relocate the fan (no more blue led light on the side T_T). Other than that I'm satisfied with it.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I have used this case before and still love doing a build with it. Easy to get to everything, loads of room, GREAT tool-less design. A lot of attention to detail, like the little storage box for extra screws and small items, that tucks under the hard drive cage.

Cons: Power supply is a bit lacking on length of cables, and number of SATA power connectors. I knew that going into the build because I have used the case before, but while adequate, it can be annoying. I will be changing the power supply in the future.

3 out of 5 eggs4 years later and it was already a old case back then @ a similar price...

Pros: It comes with a 500W power supply unit

The case is nice after 4 years

Major 4 years of owning criticism in Cons and other thoughts for those who want to buy

Cons: The headphone jack in the front died after 2.75 years of normal usage which is a major con.

The 500W power supply unit should be for a bare bones, don't get it for a gaming rig unless you're getting a 4000x series ATi card.

The fans it comes with are bad but have lived until today
"Arm" for graphics card support actually helps but the plastic they use is cheap and I would rather not have it touch the copper cooling pipes!!!!! (melting)

It's ugly after a year

I think about taking it out to the target range

Other Thoughts: After 4 years I find myself wanting a smaller case, more efficient cooling wise and an upgrade in aesthetics. It was around 2-3 years old when I got it, and it was cheaper than it is now.

4 years ago it was 2-3 years old and it was cheaper than it is now

Audio is important to me, I was angry when the port died on the front.

Skip this case in my opinion THOUGH the 500W Power supply unit is nice and will be used in my single core build in the future.

Really, don't trust a cheap PSU

Really

2 out of 5 eggsGood case, but outdated in 2014

Pros: -Side window
-Side air vents
-Side GPU cooling (Problematic depending)
-Fold Down sides (Problematic depending)
-HDD cooling side-slot

Cons: -Useless Front Door
-Zero Cable management
-Cramped
-Plain Interior, not coated
-Goofy Graphics/Print
-Sharp edges
-Weak/Flimsy side panel latch mechanisms.
-Only two locations for 120mm sized fans.
-Top mounted PSU

Other Thoughts: No area for cable management leading to a tangled mess of an interior which also blocks airflow. Both sides fold down but if you have a self contained liquid CPU cooler like a Corsair H# you can't fold down the panels because it's attached to the back of the case.

The above also stops the user from being able to mount the side GPU fan, it conflicts with the CPU cooler radiator as there is no other place to mount it.

Even with old GPU's (2c 5770's) that aren't large I have problems with the power cables bumping into the HDD cables. Case isn't long enough.

Front door isn't needed. It only serves to block access to your drive bays and USB ports. Took me years to think to remove it, I'd advise a new owner to take it off ASAP.

PSU is top-mounted which shows it's age. That pulls in hot air from the case instead of taking in cool air from outside.

I've had this case for ~ 4 years. It's a decent case but is *clearly* and absolutely outdated with it's features, especially with it's near $100 price. Unless it can be gotten for cheap, look elsewhere.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Case!

Pros: * Case has great airflow with the built in fans
* Cool blue LED lights that give it a nice look
* Comes with power supply - with 500 W you can comfortably install a GeForce 600 series video card
* Easy to install HDD/SDD with the trays provided
* Simple to access the components inside with the side door latch

Cons: * Front door of the case has to remain open when using the USB in front of case

Other Thoughts: This was case I used for my first ever build, and I have had it for 3 years without any problems. Plenty of room to work with, you may need a bigger case if trying to get a GeForce 700 series video card.

4 out of 5 eggsNice case

Pros: Case is nice and has plenty of room. Very satisfied with amount of fans it comes with to keep everything cool.

Cons: Should have came with a 750W PWR supply and more connectors.

Other Thoughts: Not a fan of cases with doors but that is preference only.
