Great server case
- Pros: I've had this case for over 3 years now, mine's more of a blue color, and it's been great for everything i've ever used it for. So much room you never have to worry about adding anything. It will fit. Great airflow through the unit if you add front intake fans and rear exhaust fans, mounts for fans for your harddrive bays also.
- Cons: it's heavy (it's also large which is why you would buy this). If you add several fans it can be loud but this thing isn't going to be sitting in your living room...
- Other Thoughts: I would buy again in an instant. Keep your drive bay parts in a safe place, you never know when you'll reconfigure the layout and you don't want to be missing parts.
Chieftec Dragon DA-01BD-U-OP ATX Full Tower REVIEW
- Pros: I've been always fan for full size towers, & I have this
tower under a different name in beige without the front door. This tower its awesome - its solid sturdy & I will never depart from it thats why I bought this Dragon You have plenty of room to fit any type M.Boards Videocards huge CPU coolers etc. & I also like about it, it doesn't have neon lights in it I find them distracting & it stays cool.
- Cons: It doesn't have usb & firewall port in front, you have to buy
them for the 3 1/2 bay, I would prefer it without the front door because I use the 5inch bays for my 3 1TB HD & they are in Icy Doc 3.5 trayless sata removable trays. so I can swap harddrives
- Other Thoughts: For 2 internal 3.5 bays - the bays are removable & hold
3 3.5 HD per bay & if you only use 1 bay you can remove the 2nd bay from the tower for more free space in tower or if you don't use them like myself you have plenty airflow room with them both removed.
The Beast
- Pros: As mentioned, a monstrous case. "Dragon" is adequate, though "Brontosaurus" might be more appropriate. I actually thought I was ordering the smaller version (which my current machine uses). I didn't check the case measurements, so I was a bit surprised when this showed up.
I'm a fan of big towers, so this will do, but it's a bit heavy (weighing over 20 pounds)...it should have a motor and wheels, so you can just drive it to its destination. Still, solid construction works for me. It's cavernous, so if you don't have room for your components, you're probably using parts from 70's-era mainframes or something (gotta find room for that punch-card reader!!).
Gobs of size, gobs of space, gobs of strength. If you've got muscles, you're going to love the Dragon.
- Cons: One thing. Installing the DVD in the external drive bay was an exercise in frustration...until I figured out that I had to remove the entire upper front panel. Then it became an exercise in patience so I didn't break any of the knob-thingies holding that front panel in place. Once it was removed, the DVD slipped right in.
Some basic on-paper instructions with this case would go a long way to making a fairly easy build even easier.
Nothing broke, so 5 eggs stay in the basket.
- Other Thoughts: Newegg is just a terrific company from which to purchase gear.
