HTPC Build
- Pros: Lots of room, easy to use Case. Very Quiet and cool. Very nice looking in living room with other components.
- Cons: Trouble getting the Card Reader to read SD Cards (Possibly User Error though)
- Other Thoughts: HTPC Parts: * AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ * Vista Home Premium 64bit * WD 500GB Sata (media drive) * WD 160GB Sata (os/programs) * GIGABYTE GA-M57SLI-S4 AM2 * MSI NX8600GT-TD512EZ * ADATA 4GB DDR2 * Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1800 * Gyration GYR3101US Remote
Close...but not quite there...
- Pros: Looks Awesome...good quality case even for the steel portion. I am coming from an all aluminum Lian-Li and it is not quite up to par with it, but then again, it is not an all aluminum offering either. Holds a whopping 6 hard drives, built in card reader...
- Cons: Also my gaming rig attached to my 42" Plasma. I have an NVidia GTX 260 and I basically had to notch the drive bay so the card would fit, thus eliminating 2 drive slots. If I go SLI I guess it would only hold 2 HDDs! Drives are tough to squeeze into the cage because of the sound dampening material and the bay tends to warp a bit which makes reinstallation a real pain. I also fitted optional 80 mm fans in the back of the cage but couldn't use them behind my 4 drives as it caused them to protrude out over the motherboard and interfear with connections. I was able to leave the fan on the left behind the vid card for more airflow.
- Other Thoughts: Can someone make a case with about 2 inches of space between the back of the mobo and drive cages so we can run mac daddy video cards?!
I installed an optional drive cage fan, optional side fan and replaced the two rear fans as well. I used Enermax Enlobal (magnetic) bearing fans which are virtually silent. I mounted them with silicon screws/mounts and silicon washers on all of the drive mounting points. I also used a silicon power supply gasket. By using silicon, it virtually eliminates all vibration with the moving parts in your pc which is the main culprit of chassis noise! Much quieter than my other case! I would also suggest a modular power supply as space is very limited and stuffing away all those unused cables is like some twisted Jenga tournament. I think it was the best case purchase for the money. Had I had unlimited funds, I would have bought the SILVERSTONE Black Aluminum Crown Series CW02B-MXR ATX Media Center / HTPC Case. Enjoy!

Watch movies and play games all day.
- Pros: Packed well inside retail box and very well constructed. Fans move air decently. Anti-vibration HDD mounts work as intented. HDD have mounts for additional cooling fans HDD mounting layout is well thought out, plenty of space for future add ons. The panel doors operate fluidly and a dampeners keep them from klanking on the case when opened. AS FOR GRAPHICS CARDS; 4870 cards will fit in this case but the heat from those cards will affect the whole system temperature. Will fit some medium size heatsinks up to 5.75 to 6 inchs in height. Very strudy case. A very nice feature is that there is ample about 0.5" room under the Motherboard to run PSU Wire and USB connections. Use of very quiet fans keep it quiet. If it is loud it's not this cases fault.
- Cons: All Very minor. All the drive bays have to come out to allow installation of full ATX Motherboard. Other than that nothing else really was interfering with the ATX board or other devices. Instructions for the case are useless. Card reader USB plug should have been 1 plug instead of seperate-- This may have to do with the accommadation for the optional front panel display. A small trade off for sound insulation is the limitation of convectional air flow. A Small Vent on the PSU side of the case is only there to keep it looking symetrical IMO. This vent becomes blocked when installing a full-size PSU.
For a HTPC the Power LED lights are annoyingly bright. There are many options but the really Simple fix is:
PLED(+)and(-) connection to the Mobo: don't hook up.
- Other Thoughts: I've been building top spec computers for over 8 years. This is a very good case, IF USED PRACTICALLY the heat issue is not a factor, however (large amount of new egg users) few people want to put 295 GTX's or 4870x2 or multiple-graphics card in a HTPC --This part of the review is for you Mr. pc game enthusiaist guy-- That is fine with this case but you will need to further modify the case for that experience as well as HDD bays and ventilation. As I said before it will accomidate anything to the likes of a 9600gt to 4870 with out modification. It is intended for average user and mild to Moderate-gamer setup IMO. Modular PSU should not be necessary
Great HTPC case
- Pros: Quiet, roomy, solid, cool running, cool looking
- Cons: bay door a bit "loose"
super-bright LED's A bit of a pain to assemble/tweak insides No cable management
- Other Thoughts: I got this case for an HTPC. It's impressively quiet (with the stock case fans), the power supply location is great. The drive cages are a bit annoying but since the hard drive cage is padded to reduce vibration, there is actually plenty of friction to hold the drive with only 2 screws on top. You don't really need to take it out to secure the bottom screws.
The front door to the bays has some give which makes it feel a bit cheap when using it, but this is really a very minor issue. Most of the time this will be close anyway and it looks great. I suspect a little piece of foam on the inside would get rid of this issue. I would recommend putting your CPU heatsink on before mounting the motherboard in place since it's a bit cramped in there with the DVD cage in place.
Great case!
Very Nice
- Pros: I have built several systems using this case and couldn't be happier with the consistent quality and finish. Looks amazing in home theater rack systems.
- Cons: You will probably not be able to use memory with large heatsinks if you are using the lower optical drive cage. Nothing that would keep me from purchasing again
- Other Thoughts: Using a full atx motherboard will spread out connections and may help with some of the cramped issues mentioned in other reviews. A little extra time spent on cable routing is needed to keep it looking clean. There are also several cpu coolers available that can keep any processor running cool and are designed to fit smaller htpc cases perfectly and can run duel fans for extra cooling if needed (Silenx 1xc-92ha2, Xigmatek Nepartek S983, Nactua NHU9B)
