SilverStone Sugo Series Mini-ITX Desktop Computer Case

The Sugo SG07, with a size that slots in between the venerable SG01 Micro-ATX SFF case from 2005 and the SG05, a powerful Mini-ITX case released in 2009, was designed to take the Mini-ITX platform to a whole new level. It is twice as powerful as the SG05 but only 37% bigger. Its custom 600W power supply, which is rated up to 50°C with 80 PLUS Bronze level efficiency and single +12V rail, was carefully chosen and optimized for SG07. Exhaustive testing was conducted to create unique VGA fan duct and exhaust vents that enable SG07 to not only accommodate the longest consumer graphics cards physically (up to 12.2 inches / 310mm) but also capable of supporting graphics thermal profile of up to 400W through overclocking. For the CPU and motherboard area, a record-breaking use of 180mm fan (bigger than the Mini-ITX motherboard!) with vortex generating design was utilized to provide possibility of fanless CPU cooling of up to 95W (via CPU cooler such as SilverStone's NT06-E). But despite having tremendous amount of cooling performance, the SG07 is easy to maintain as well. It employs positive pressure layout with all intake areas fitted with removable filters so dust will not accumulate inside. If the goal is to make the ultimate Mini-ITX system, the SG07 is hard to beat.

4 out of 5 eggsCHALLENGING Build, not for feint at heart

Pros: Small enough to fit into a TV console,
attractive design.
600 W 80 Bronze certified PSU already built in
effective at cooling
pretty quiet

Cons: Built for a slim optical disc drive, yet the included cables do not fit a slim internal DVD optical disc drive- thank goodness for another reviewer who recommended getting StarTech SLSATAADAP Female Slimline SATA to SATA adapter. The adapter was a little large for a very tight space- had to do some serious modding to the plastic corners of the included 180mm fan before I barely, and I mean barely, got the adapter to fit and the DVD drive working. The included foam disc used with the GPU card was slightly hitting the GPU fan, and I went with a small R7 card. However, after I removed the three screws from the rear of the chassis that seemed to give it the just needed room to clear the GPU fan, which is fine because even without the screws the chassis holds together well.

Other Thoughts: Also, I researched high and low for a small aftermarket heat sink but couldn't find one that fit onto a mini itx board. No egg off, just FYI. Good thing the case keeps things fairly cool.

This was my first PC build. It was quite a challenge and required a lot of patience. Invest in zip ties, a good PC tool kit, and until a better solution to get the slim internal optical disc drive working, the suggested adapter. Keep in mind you may likely have to cut away some of the plastic corners of the 180 mm fan to get the adapter to fit and the drive working- unless someone else had a better solution. Love the case though. It's going right next to my PS4 and Nintendo Wii U hooked up to my 50 hi def inch TV.

My build:
Chassis: Sugo Series SG-07B

MOBA: GIGABYTE GA-F2A88XN-WIFI

CPU:AMD A10-7850K Kaveri

Memory: Patriot Viper 3 Low Profile Blue 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133

GPU:HIS iCooler Boost Clock H250F1G Radeon R7 250 1GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express

OS: Windows 8.1 FULL

5 out of 5 eggsCrazy Awesome

Pros: Incredible case. Very well designed. All of my components fit right in. Nice and quiet. The massive amount of USB 3.0 ports is a huge plus for me.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Bought this to build a nice desktop for myself. The Core i5 I bought had a faulty heatsink/fan, but that huge fan on top of the case kept the CPU idle at 40C. After replacing the fan, it hardly ever goes above 31C.

This is the ITX case to get. Bar none.

5 out of 5 eggsBought from 3DGameMan in 2011

Pros: Excellent finish thoughout.
Quiet PSU and top fan.
Filters for both fans.

Cons: The front headphone jack picks up noise when anything is plugged into either of the front USB ports.
The top fan was very difficult to get seated into place when I first built the machine.
The top filter can only be accessed by removing the case cover.

Other Thoughts: Gigabyte GA-H55N-USB3
i5 760, aftermarket cooler
4GB G.Skill DDR3 Memory
1TB Green Western Digital
Plextor 128GB SSD
Samsung Slimline DVD-R/W
EVGA GTX 460
Samsung 25.5" T260HD
Shimian Achieva 27" QH270-lite monitor

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible quality control

Pros: Great psu, nice design and great cooling.

Cons: The front metal is glued on and super cheap, mine was not glued on right and was popping off. Big scratch on the inside and paint missing.

Other Thoughts: I spend a lot on cases, lian li etc and this is my third and last silverstone. The quality was really poor i am disgusted the aluminium was glued on and super thin almost like card.

It had lots of big scuffs on the inside too but the badly glued on metal that made the dvd burner look crooked was a joke.

pretty gutted and I wont take a chance on a second. 10 day RMA's make it not worth while.

5 out of 5 eggsBest in it's class

Pros: Absolutely perfect design. Custom Silverstone 600 watt power supply included that is mounted in front of the case on it's side that draws air in from the bottom and expels it out of the side. Top 180mm fan mounted over top of the motherboard area does a fantastic job of keeping the hottest area of you case cool. Drive Very clever drive bay holds 2 X 2.5 inch drives and 1 X 3.5 in drive. The one piece removable shell may be what I like most about Silverstone SFF cases. No fumbling with multiple side panels and micro sized screws when trying to access the interior (i'm looking at you Lian-Li). No problem fitting my Evga Gtx 480, possibly one of the bulkiest Nvidia cards out there, heat pipes and all. Two front USB 3.0 ports.

Cons: If anything, the finish on rear of the case isn't as nice as the rest of the case and the reset button is on the rear of the case. I would have liked the Silverstone emblem on the front of the case to be removable/optional, but that's just nitpicking.

Some might say having to use a slim dvd burner is a con also, but that's just a matter of opinion because I knew this before buying. I used a Sony Optical AD-7690H-01 slot loader and a StarTech.com 20-Inch Slimline SATA to SATA with LP4 Power Cable Adapter (SLSATAF20).

Other Thoughts: I eventually removed the stock Intel cpu cooler and the top 180mm fan and installed an Antec Kuhler H20 620 water cooling unit with an additional fan in a push/pull config. The included bracket for the 180mm Silverstone fan has mounting holes for a 120mm fan, so it fit perfectly. Tight, but perfectly. Everything about this case just worked out great.

Parts used:
Intel core i5-2500k sandy bridge
1 X 120GB Kingston Hyper X SSD
1 X 500GB Western Digital black laptop drive
1 X 2TB Western Digital black
8GB Kingston Hyper X PC3 12800 (2 X 4GB sticks)
Evga Geforce Gtx 480
Sony optical dvd burner
Antec Kuhler H20 620
