5 out of 5 eggsAwesome!

This review is from: DEEPCOOL STEAM CASTLE (BLACK) Unique Steam Punk Style With Side Window 200mm Fan(Front) Micro ATX / Mini-ITX +120mm Fan(Rear)+4 Magic Controllable LED Lights (Top) SGCC+PLASTIC(ABS)+RUBBER COATING

Pros: 1. Stays cool/quiet: The 2 fans that came with this case work perfectly. Lots of ventilation, and I've never owned a computer that runs so quietly. Can barely hear the fans even running at max.

2. Viewing window.

3. Steampunk style: Just plain awesome!

4. LED Lighting: I'm a huge fan of colored LED's (installed some in my car too). These look great and are fun to show friends and family.

Cons: Wiring: There is some wiring associated with the LED's and side controls (obviously). Unfortunately I've had a difficult time managing them inside the case. It may just be the motherboard design, but the cables just barely reach the required ports. Kind of annoying aesthetically, but they do work.

Side window: Great feature, but not high quality. Barely grazed it (is there anything less than a graze?) and it was noticeably scratched (luckily near an edge). Be careful!

Other Thoughts: Love this case! Looks (and stays) cool, couldn't be happier.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Steampunk Style Case

This review is from: DEEPCOOL STEAM CASTLE (BLACK) Unique Steam Punk Style With Side Window 200mm Fan(Front) Micro ATX / Mini-ITX +120mm Fan(Rear)+4 Magic Controllable LED Lights (Top) SGCC+PLASTIC(ABS)+RUBBER COATING

Pros: Great styling, everything comes apart, lots of room for graphics cards, super quiet fans, cool lights, endless extra fan locations including water cooling bay on top.

Cons: Despite the QC approved tag in the case, one of the top LED's does not work on the red light setting only - what a shame. Is there any way I can get a replacement from the manufacturer? Not worth sending it back for but it sure ruins the looks - knocked off one egg. Case is abnormally wide so check if it will fit where you want to put it. Motherboard mounts were just a wee bit off, cable routing is a challenge, need a fan header to plug everything in to motherboard. Needs to come in a rusty brown finish to complete the steampunk look.

4 out of 5 eggsThis is a unique and cool case.

This review is from: DEEPCOOL STEAM CASTLE (BLACK) Unique Steam Punk Style With Side Window 200mm Fan(Front) Micro ATX / Mini-ITX +120mm Fan(Rear)+4 Magic Controllable LED Lights (Top) SGCC+PLASTIC(ABS)+RUBBER COATING

Pros: It looks cool. I can see my graphics card's sexy side in the window. I has a whole lotta room for coolers and long cards. It has several drive bays. This finish is great. USB 3.0 ready.

Cons: The motherboard tray is designed for an ITX motherboard but will fit an M-ATX so the rear access hole for the back of the CPU socket is off just enough to be a concern for any metal CPU cooler back plates. The faceplate only has one external pop-out. If I were to mount a fan controller I'd have to do some custom cutting. The LED colored exhaust ducts in the top are not functional. There is no dust screen for the front mounted intake fan. No front audio ports.

Other Thoughts: I used a bottom end non-modular corsair PSU in this case. I had to really plan out wire management in this case because there isn't a lot of space to stash a large bundle of wires out of view from the massive side window. The side mounted panel is out of place just as other reviews have mentioned. I mounted two 120mm fans in the roof based on reviews of there being not enough ventillation in that area. There is plenty of room for water cooling and my 212evo fit with room to spare. I would buy some sort of internal light to light up this case because the built in lights in the top are not very bright and do not light up the inside. Get 18" to 20" long sata cables and extra fans.

4 out of 5 eggsA somewhat fresh alternative in an increasingly crowded market

This review is from: DEEPCOOL STEAM CASTLE (BLACK) Unique Steam Punk Style With Side Window 200mm Fan(Front) Micro ATX / Mini-ITX +120mm Fan(Rear)+4 Magic Controllable LED Lights (Top) SGCC+PLASTIC(ABS)+RUBBER COATING

Pros: - Case is a rubberized matte finish on the top, bottom and front. The sides and back of the case are matte painted metal with one side including a plastic window
- Plastic over metal thumb screws for sides of case
- Removal of the body panels is tool-less
- The interior is free of sharp edges and painted black
- Rubber standoffs for the power supply
- Accepts both mATX and mITX motherboards
- Includes two case fans
- Interesting and creative design with plenty of space for accessories (relative to other mATX cases).
- Unique lighting effects which are variable via a selection button on the side of the case.
- Sturdy design
- Mounts for liquid cooling solutions
- Reasonably quite fans
- Low-gloss, fingerprint resistant coating
- Air filter for the power supply

Cons: - One side of case includes rotary control; power button; audio; and USB (2x2.0, 2x 3.0) ports.
- The Motherboard tray is riveted and non-removable
- Cabling is not sleeved
- No fans in the top vents only lights
- Non-removable motherboard tray
- No tie downs for internal cabling
- Plastic window is not easily removable

The primary complaint with this case is the accessory ports (audio, USB, etc) located on the right side of the case. That means for right-handed people, if you typically keep your computer on the right side of you, you need to reach around even further to utilize the ports. As well, it limits the space in which you can place the case on your right side because you need to have the additional clearance in order to insert & remove things. And a minor complaint is that when you are working in the confines of an mATX/ITX case, it's nice to be able to remove the motherboard tray for easier installation.

Other Thoughts: - Vents are grey painted plastic
- There are (3) separate storage bays.
- There's the front 5.25" for an ODD and a 3.5"
- Two removable trays that accept 2.5" - 3.5" drives
- Two rear mounted trays for 2.5" drives
- Overall width is a bit more than what you might anticipate, so allowing a bit more space for that + the side mounted ports make the required space even greater.

This case visually stands out from the pack with its unique, SteamPunk-ish styling with a great fingerprint resistant rubberized coating to protect much of the finish. Overall, the case is strongly built with a spacious interior compared with other mATX designed cases, but the non-removable MB tray may complicate some MB installations. ODD installation is complicated by the need to remove an old-school twist off metal drive bay cover. Front and top covers are tool less to remove but are not mentioned in the manual. The manual is clear but brief. The 3.5 inch drive bay under the ODD bay may block some taller video cards if used. There are five screws to remove the mount which complicates the removal of the ODD and 3.5 inch bay. The overall impression is the case is modern on the outside but a bit dated in the inside due to the un-sleeved cables and non-removable MB tray. There is only one filter in the case. Other manufactures include additional filtering. There is a significant lack of tie-downs for cable management although there are pass-thru’s for cables. The fans are quiet and provide good air flow. And the cutouts for water cooling is a nice consideration.

All in all, I like this case. I know some people have been waiting for it to arrive Stateside. Now it's here (securely packed & shipped directly from Asia) and it's overall worth it if the styling cues are your thing. It would've been nice if the top fan-looking ports were actually that- instead they are for lighting effect only. Neat, but an option to mount low velocity fans would be nice.

TomsHardware is friendly with NewEgg and- coincidentally or not- also just used this case for their article "Building An Intel-Based MicroATX Gaming PC On A Budget". You can also check out what they had to say about it.

4 out of 5 eggsNice, quiet mATX case

This review is from: DEEPCOOL STEAM CASTLE (BLACK) Unique Steam Punk Style With Side Window 200mm Fan(Front) Micro ATX / Mini-ITX +120mm Fan(Rear)+4 Magic Controllable LED Lights (Top) SGCC+PLASTIC(ABS)+RUBBER COATING

Pros: Very good build quality. Entire case is solidly built, no flimsy panels or anything like that. Enough room for a solid mATX build, large graphics cards will fit nicely, although you may have to remove the 3.5 bay on the front. Not sure why that's there since there are better placed bays in the base and there is no external opening.

Styling is pretty cool, especially the roof vents. They are LED lit and the color is selectable using the button on the side, which doubles as a fan controller. Red, green and blue colors available, as well as steady, fading in and out, or off. Brightness of LEDs changes according to fan speed which is pretty cool. Side window is quite nice if you're into that.

Case is pretty quiet too, not a whole lot of noise from the built in fans and they are running at a decent speed too and keep the case temps under pretty good control even with a graphics card at max load.

Cons: You would think that the vents on the top have fans in them or at least fan mounts underneath but they don't, not directly at least. There are fan mounts but strangely they are in the center of the case, right where there is no venting. So the air actually flows around the top before escaping indirectly from the vents. Maybe a better baffled roof panel wouldve helped.

3.5 bay in the front is pretty useless. I guess you could use it if you ran out of space in the bays in the base but otherwise it just takes up space and blocks graphics cards. Luckily it's removable.

Ports and buttons are in a pretty annoying position, on the right side, opposite of the case window. That means if you're putting the case on the floor, there is no easy way to reach them. Similarly, if you're putting the case on your desk, you'll have to choose between having the window face you or the ports. Either way you'll be making a sacrifice.

Other Thoughts: Includes fans in the front and back but not in the roof. Order some if you want the added cooling and air to actually come out the roof vents. A cool mod you could do is add some kind of fog machine into the top vents so it actually puts out steam. That'd be pretty cool.

All in all a decent case, worth the money especially if you like the styling. I can see lots of modding potential in this case.
