2 out of 5 eggsNot a great product

This review is from: NZXT AC-GRIDP-M1 GRID+ Digital Fan Controller

Pros: Device is small, easy to hook up and can fit pretty much anywhere.

Cons: The first one I got worked for 1 day. It obeyed the software and accepted any settings I gave it. After restarting the computer, it failed to communicate with the software at all. It wouldn't speed up or slow down my fans or do anything I told it to do. The fans ran max RPM 24/7 unless I unplugged the power or USB lead and plugged it back in, at that point it would go into a "normal" RPM range but stay there permanently. They wouldn't speed up when I increased load.

I worked with NZXT customer service and they told me this was a known issue and advised I RMA, which I did.

Newegg was good with the RMA and I received a new one about 2 weeks later even though they originally denied my RMA because I didn't have the box, they still sent me a new one after all, which was nice.

Sadly, the new one is now exhibiting the exact same problem as the first. Plugged it in and it worked like a charm for the first use. Now after a single restart it's back to doing the exact same thing. Fans run flat out no matter what and the software is now useless despite working fine for the first boot and only the first boot.

Other Thoughts: I strongly suggest going with a different solution unless you absolutely positively have to have THIS unit, and you feel like gambling with your money.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, Valued NZXT Customer

We deeply apologize for this ongoing issue with the grid+ what I can say is that we are working on this with our development team. What we would strongly recommend is opening a ticket again with us as we have some instructions we must go over. If you can please proceed forward to support.nzxt.com we would be able to fill you in on the occurring fix.
Kind regards,
NZXT Support.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: NZXT AC-GRIDP-M1 GRID+ Digital Fan Controller

Pros: great device to make fans more quiet. I dont have to get up anymore from my seat to increase my fan speeds or quiet them down. I can do it all from my chair right on my screen :) quite nice for the lazy type like me!!

Cons: kinda hard to remove fans from the device. I found using a flat head screw driver to release retaining clips makes the fans come out smooth. Or just shave off the nub on all of your fans connectors so that the retaining clip wont grab it, then it comes off easily from the device.

Also sometimes if you dont release the retaining clip, the inner clip will entirely come out with your fan connector, also if you pull using the wire it will strip out the wires since a lot of force is required if you dont pull up the clips. use needle nose pliers to gently wiggle out the connectors by the SIDES when doing cable management along with the flat head screw driver to pull up the clips!

Other Thoughts: Other than OVERLY tight retaining clips its an absolute sigh of relief from noisy fans. Better yet you can control your fans without having to get up from your chair!!!!!!!! I hated getting up (my computer was far from my monitor) and turning the knobs up or down on my old fan controller. But with this I dont even have to get up. :)

Also make sure that if you use the extender wires that you plug into 3 pin side and not two pin side. Because if you only plug into the 2 pin then you wont have RPM reading and stuff. I didn't realize it at first at thought one of my ports on this thing was dead but actually it just didn't have 3rd pin plugged in....fan still was spinning though. It was just an error my part and the port worked it was just spinning my fan low since i had it on silent mode lol... couldn't hear it... eh that's my 2 cents .. sorry for my horrible grammar.. tired from putting my rig together.. and groggy.. gonna get some sleep now that shes done :)

also i wrote a bad review initially but i didn't realize i used the wrong dang wire lol....thought port was dead... so if my bad review shows up just disregard it.... >_<

1 out of 5 eggsburn out port

This review is from: NZXT AC-GRIDP-M1 GRID+ Digital Fan Controller

Pros: convinient, great concept, software isnt as bad as everyone claims ...thats about it.

Cons: Bad design. its IMPOSSIBLE to remove fans from ports. For some reason fan port 5 was burnt out. Unit got very hot. I checked the wires, different fans etc.. no dice on port 5. The fans cannot be removed unless you use a flat head screw driver to release the retaining clip. WHen I first received the device..... that same port number 5, the plastic peice inside wasnt flush and I had to push it in. Its just a really bad design. If you value your fans do not get this. It will thrash all of your fan connectors just trying to remove the fans from the thing. Does not indicate flat head MAJOR DESIGN FLAWS...read the full thing, ill explain. A screw driver is needed to remove fans, it no where mentions this in the instructions. The connectors were so tight once plugged in even with the flat head screw driver it completely ruined one fan, it stripped the pins on the fan just plugging it in.... baaad design. once plugged in the only thing that is visible is the fans wire and can only pull the fan out by the wire as you use a flat head screw driver...if that makes any sense. I would wait until they implement a new design, it is a great concept however but since this is the first gizmo of its kind, I would wait until revision 2 comes out, and wait until they acknowledge the MAJOR design flaw thats obviously present...if ever. Also when I first plugged the thing in it made my bios reset for some reason? IDK, but I would stay away. Especially since I get no telemetry data on port number 5 even after trouble shooting. After typing this im going to try and return it instead of getting a replacement.....

Other Thoughts: Buggy, major design flaws, would expect better from NZXT, ruins fans, strips wires and fan connectors. Ruined a 15 $ fan :(

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, Valued NZXT Customer

We do apologize for the inconvenience and we also appreciate the feedback on our Grid+. The fans should slide out easily from the ports of the fan channels. No screw driver is needed to take out these fans nor would it damage your fans. If at all you do have any issues with your Grid+ or need to claim warranty for the unit. Please visit support.nzxt.com at the top right you would need to submit a request. Which will enter in to our ticketing system which our representatives would be able to escalate the unit for an RMA.

Kind Regards,
NZXT Support.

2 out of 5 eggsNot great

This review is from: NZXT AC-GRIDP-M1 GRID+ Digital Fan Controller

Pros: Form factor is nice. Also cabling it comes with is a bonus.

Cons: Software is utter and complete garbage. It can't reliably do anything. It ruins what should be an awesome device.

Other Thoughts: After months of fighting with it, I got it to statically set the fans to 70% (which was my goal speed). I uninstalled the software and will never tough it again. It now stays at 70% without issue. I really wish I could have set that as the ceiling, and then let it thermal throttle. But whatever, its better than nothing.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, Valued NZXT Customer

We appreciate the honest feedback with our product, there has been many changes made to the cam software. Now that being there is a cam version 2.0 it has totally had a re haul of its UI and included a nice FPS counter called the “overlay option”. Which records your RAM usage ,fps counter, gpu temps and more. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to submit a request at support.nzxt.com. You can also contact us directly at +1-800-228-9395.

Kind regards,
NZXT Support.

2 out of 5 eggsGood idea, wait for future versions

This review is from: NZXT AC-GRIDP-M1 GRID+ Digital Fan Controller

Pros: Build quality of the controller feels very solid and is slim profile enough to not take up space in the case.
The CAM software is consistently being updated with ideas from the community, and the mobile app is a nice addition.

Cons: There are two key issues that are limited by the hardware design.
1. Minimum fan speed is set to %40 as by advertisement/recommendation, but for people using high static pressure fans such as my SP120's, this is way to loud.
2. Individual Fan control is not possible. You can make 1 custom profile for fan speeds, but this applies to all connected fans.

I made the mistake buying this product thinking there would at least be individual fan control.

Other Thoughts: You can compare this product to NZXT's Grid, which is just a fan splitter. Grid+ has a software interface to control all fans together and display temps and system information. Other than that, they are basically the same product with a ~$20 + price.

I like what NZXT is going for here, but they missed two crucial things, and I think not having individual fan control (which is the point of a fan controller) is a huge oversight.

My recommendation: The NZXT Cam Software forum for ideas is great and consistently being updated as well as their software. But many of the ideas are limited by hardware, and NZXT has said that it will be in their next edition. Wait until then, unless you need a software glorified fan splitter.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, Valued NZXT Customer

We appreciate your honest feedback regarding the two key issues that you commented on. One not having the individual fan control and the speed set at 40%. Though it is true that this unit does not have independent fan control it was released for a specific set, to be an easy to use -fan controller with a single custom profile. With one profile would be able to control all fans with-out having to change each fan by itself to a certain percentage. With the grid+ having the lowest RPM’s at 40% was a universal marker which at 5 volts or lower the fans will stop or stutter. We are here to serve you if you have any further questions or concerns. Please feel free to contact us at +1-800-228-9395.

Kind regards,
NZXT Support.

2 out of 5 eggsOver Priced

This review is from: NZXT AC-GRIDP-M1 GRID+ Digital Fan Controller

Pros: Has connections for 6 fans. Can control more fans using splitters. As long as you keep total drawn under 30w.

Cons: Cam software used to control this is a bad joke. Unable to control fans individually. Doesn't work with pwm fans. There's more. See other thoughts.

Other Thoughts: If you value your fans avoid this. I had to take this apart just to remove my fans. It literally wouldn't let them go. The fan headers on this wouldn't fit my cooler master fans. To my surprise, this thing would lose contact with my usb header(it was plugged in and windows could see it) forcing me to power down my system, open the case, unplug it from the header, wait 30's seconds, reconnect and hope it would work. It usually didn't. Thankfully, if it can't connect it would spin the fans at 40% speed.

There are much better options out there. I bought this because I wanted to use it in a NAS box that didn't have any external openings on the front.

If you value your fans avoid this thing. Gave it 2 eggs because at-least it spun the fans.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, Valued NZXT Customer

We do apologize for the inconvenience, but the grid+ was designed for a specific group of users to be a simplistic and easy to use fan controller. Which allowed a single profile for all fans to be controlled all at once. So independent control for each fan was not implemented for this controller. Which our sentry 2 and sentry 3 fan controllers are able to do. It is a software based fan controller which works in combo with the CAM software. Again we are thankful for the feed-back if you have any issues with the grid+ please visit us at support.nzxt.com and submit a request if you have any issues.

Kind regards,
NZXT Support.

1 out of 5 eggsDONT buy!

This review is from: NZXT AC-GRIDP-M1 GRID+ Digital Fan Controller

Pros: Cool design, compact. Quality device

Cons: Would be great if NZXTs software did not render this little device almost useless. Its just an expensive fan splitter without it catastrophic CAM software. If you have the skills to write your own program I am sure it would work great. I going to buy a Corsair Link Commander. Apparently it has independent control of each fan. This Grid+ does not.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, Valued NZXT Customer

We do apologize for the inconvenience, upon the grid’s release it was meant to be a very simplistic fan controller which provided easy use for the average user. Which we did not implement independent fan control for each fan. Though we do have several other fan controllers like the sentry 2 and 3 that do offer independent fan control. If you have any further questions regarding this please let us know at support.nzxt.com or you can contact us directly at +1-800-228-9395

Kind regards,
NZXT Support.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing

This review is from: NZXT AC-GRIDP-M1 GRID+ Digital Fan Controller

Pros: Easy to install. Comes with installion material. Looks great inside my case, works great, and is a easy way for me to control and monitor my fans and my computer temperature.

It doesn't control the fans individually, but the CAM software is much more convenient than a simple fan controller or hub, and to be honest, I was drawn to the Grid+ by its aesthetics.

Really awesome that it comes with zip ties too.

Props to NZXT for a very helpful and speedy customer service and product support.

Cons: I don't need to control my fans individually, but it should be supported.

Other Thoughts: Don't just pull the fan cables out of the Grid+, take your time and ease them out.
