3 out of 5 eggsLocation is everything

Pros: easy to install
simple
adjustable intensity white light - high, med, low, or off

Cons: if placed wrong the lights are totally ineffective

The controller sticks out low in the slot and is very close to the mobo

Other Thoughts: This is a new review replacing my previous 1 egg review.

These lights are small and in an attempt to keep a clean look inside my I placed them in the outermost edges of the interior. I could barely tell the lights were there at all.

After moving the lights out of the depths I can now see the light.

The light is far less intense than a Cold Cathode, but comes with none of the hideous cables or hardware.

4 out of 5 eggsGets the Job Done, waiting to see if it's long lasting

Pros: Great Lights that can be just slightly bright or very bright depending on the settings.
Power Button is a very nice inclusion in case you don't want them on
Removable 2 pin cables.

Cons: I have heard several reviews talking about how lights die after a few months or get less bright etc. It remains to be seen whether or not that will be the case with mine.
Molex? Really? they should at least include an adapter or something else as well, because in PC's like mine, which have modular power supplies, attaching an extra molex cable doesn't make me happy.

Other Thoughts: I would definitely recommend it provided you have molex leads in your chassis, and are okay with sticking to one color. Great to make budget builds look higher end.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Inexpensive Lighting Option

Pros: Easy installation - the flexible strip is easy to route around your chassis, and the little self-adhesive clips do a good job of keeping it in place - they give you so many, you'll even have some left over for the other small wires in your case to boot.

Narrow thickness of the LED strip means you can cram it into interesting spaces - I've used these as perimeter lighting for windows, neatly hidden illumination for the whole case interior and (my favorite) under the motherboard for a cool 'floating' motherboard effect.

You only need one four-pin molex and a blank expansion slot cover if you're going to use the default setup, but I really dig these things because the expansion slot blank is easily removed from the PCB (just a couple of screws hold it on), allowing you to just stash it and its switch under the motherboard if you're always going to leave it on or even attach it to a drive bay blank with the power switch poking out through a hole if you're feeling frisky.

Cons: I'd prefer just a bit more length between the end of the strip's connector and the first LED, but that's definitely not a dealbreaker.

Other Thoughts: These things are great low-cost alternatives to some of the other lighting solutions out there and give you a lot of options for installation, particularly if you're willing to get a little crafty. NZXT service remains outstanding and great to work with on the rare occasion you have to.

4 out of 5 eggsMeet All Expectations

Pros: Installation is simple and clean, clips provided with 3M tape work perfectly fine. Sleeve looks and feel of high quality, Molex adapter has enough length to keep cable management looking clean. Brightness level is great on this, love having the control to turn the brightness up or down.

Cons: First LED is a bit close to initial connection to circuit board jack.

Other Thoughts: I used electrical tape to hid the first LED on the strand and is doing the job just fine. The 1 meter length was more than enough for my mid tower case (NZXT s340), went from back, top to front panel with enough slack all around.

4 out of 5 eggsGood lighting, just not the right fit

Pros: -Perfect length
-Having 3 brightness settings is nice

Cons: Does not fit in the pci slot in my fractal design r4 case with a Asus z87 mobo. the mobo is too far out to have the light control fit in. had to rig it up with velcro to work. luckily its hidden enough under my lower gpu that you cant see it at all.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Simple to install

Three levels of brightness, and an option to turn it completely off

Provides a nice ambient light without being ridiculously bright like a lot of other stuff available.

It's flexible and lets me install it in ways that regular cathodes wouldn't allow.

Cons: The circuit board seems to sit really close to the motherboard when installed. So much so that I couldn't install it in my bottom PCI slot due to some cables that were plugged in down there. It'd be nice if it sat more towards the center of the bracket to avoid this.

The LEDs start only like 2 inches away from where it plugs into the circuit board, meaning the first few LEDs are likely going to be dangling in plain sight and not necessarily where you ultimately wanted the lighting to be. It'd be nice if it gave another few inches before the LEDs started.

The power cord is a bit short and is a standard 4-pin molex connector. I say it's short because I have a Corsair Air 540. The power supply and the majority of it's cables sit hidden away behind the motherboard tray. I was able to make it reach but a longer cable would have allowed it to be a bit nicer looking. I suppose this wouldn't be an issue with the majority of cases however.

Other Thoughts: I installed this in my Corsair Air 540 (white) and it gives it just the right amount of light without it looking like a car from the Fast & Furious movies. The 1m length is long enough to reach from the bottom PCI bracket, up the rear of the case, over the top, and then just a bit is left to start reaching down the front. I think the 2m length would have made it all the way around, but I feel that may have been too long.

2 out of 5 eggsLasted 2 months

Pros: Initially was bright, easily installed, 3-tier brightness

Cons: I had this installed and decided that the brighest setting was the best for my case, so I left it powered on 24-7 along with my PC.

Sadly it seems that this kit has lost it's ability to stay at it's original brightness. While it still has 3 levels of brightness, the difference between level 1 and level 3 is next to nothing now.

I simply believe that this device wasn't meant to run as long as the PC does and is only meant to be used in short bursts.

It's possible I got a lemon of device and I can't return it because it only has a 30-day return warranty, though I will see if NZXT will return it within their 2-year manufacturing warranty

Other Thoughts: This device requires 4-pin molex (like the old IDE) power. It cannot be integrated into typical fan power connectors or a 3rd-party lighting control solution. This must always be on unless you manually power off the button on the back of the computer case which is kind of a pain.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Tony,

We would definitely be able to replace this item for you under manufacturer's warranty. Please contact our Support team at support.nzxt.com anytime from 9:30-5:30pm PST M-F in order to initiate an RMA request. We would only need a copy of your invoice for the purchase of the LED kit.

Let us know how we can help!

Sincerely,
NZXT. Support
