Question 1

Both reviews for this product indicate that it didn't work.  Can you suggest what situations will and will not work?  Are there compatibility concerns?

I just bought a new BluRay player and want to hook it up to a component input on an older digital TV.

If I do buy it what kind of restocking fee is there if I return it.  I presume that I must pay return shipping.

"Hi Mike, Bottom line up front...this product does NOT work for the application you describe. I was hoping to find the same sort of bridge between new and old technologies. There seemed to be plenty Component to HDMI patches but this was the only HDMI to Component converter I could find after a couple of hours of looking on the web. My TV is a 1999 Toshiba 36" with a CRT display and Component inputs. My new BluRay is a Sony BDP BX510.  No matter what settings I tried, I couldn't get more than a brief ghost of an image of the word 'BluRay' to show on the screen. The device's instructions are a one off Chinese translation that should have spent a little longer in the translator's office. However, they did get one point correct...Under "Features" the second bullet point states, "Conversion: It could convert complete HDMI into YPbPr and R/L audio output." 'could' being the operative word. The clincher comes later under NOTE. "Some traditional CRT displays may not work after connected with the converter. This mainly caused by these displays only supporting 480i and 576i YPbPr interlaced resolution. Therefore we suggest to choose LCD display or those can support YPbPr CRT displays." and "Some connected displays may have no image after setting the resolution of the HDMI source at 1080p. This not caused by our products but YPbPr channel of displays not supporting resolution at 1080p." In other words, it's not their fault if the device doesn't do what it is being marketed to do."

Question 2

I have a PS4 with only HDMI outputs and a large screen SONY TV with 1080i and component or YPbPr or composite inputs. Will this work and convert? If not, what will work?

Question 3

does this work with a Roku3 - which only has HDMI output.  How does this device handle the HDCP?

I'm pretty sure this device will take the Roku HDMI out and allow you to use it with RCA L/R audio out and a 3 input RCA Video - If you only have one RCA video in you may have to get a three (male)-to-one (male) RCA adapter to send the signal into a single RCA female video device.  I bought this just to shred the RCA audio off of the HDMI out on mu computer, so I split the HDMI signal into two HDMI's and then sent one to my HDMI TV and the other to this device, then I connected the RCA audio signal to my receiver and it works great. Will this work with sling box m1 and xfinity X1 box?

I don't have those devices but it works fine on two different devices I have.  I leave it on all the time and it simply converts the signal.  One is a DirecTV box to a Onkyo A/V receiver that feeds signals to my TV.  The Onkyo got its HDMI jack mangled so I simply use this to convert to the three color inputs and audio 2 channel stereo. Will this work with a Xbox One? IE. Will it convert the Xbox one HDMI signal to componant(YPbPr)?

Hello,
I connected this to a Samsung Bluray to a Samsung 1080i DynaFlat HD television.  The Television does not have HDMI, only YPbPr.  This product did not work between the two devices.

Question 6

My tv is not recognizing this being hooked up at all.  Can you email me / respond to me with a setup guide?  It's supposed to be plug and play, so I'm not confident it will work for me, but would like to go through processes of elimination to learn what I don't know.

you have to plug the HDMI into the input and the 5 wire component to your tv. since HDMI is encrypted you may get squiggly lines or a blank screen when you do hook it up. It didn't work for me on an HDMI only output on a blu-ray player, and when i hooked up a laptop i could see the sides of the display and the middle of the screen was blacked out. it told me that this device was not compatible with the HDMI encryption.

having issues our tv is older and set for 1080i and when trying to use it comes up static and dosent work at all any ideas to help?

I'd give 720p a try.  Mine works very well, but you have to make sure you have YPbPr on your TV. RGB is different, and so is component.

Will this product work with APPLETV?

Yes , it does connect and you can use it with Apple TV, but some of the HD content will not play - I forget the actual acronym but it was something like super HD . So regular HD will play but other episodes in this new HD format would not play.
