5 out of 5 eggsGreat old school mobo

Pros: Most people on here have already hit the highs well. I thought I'd add the IDT sound drivers with Sonic Focus enabled are incredible. I've used mobos from 975 to X58 and none of them match the clean bass output of the BX2 with said drivers on Vista x64 SP1. I've even tried high end sound cards and like other motherboards they clip and drop sound when you use high levels of bass. Honestly, I can turn the Sonic Focus bass all the way up and it will not drop sound or clip. I can't tolerate it that high and it's incredible to hear the kind of thud it's capable of briefly. It sounds wonderful with high quality headphones. I'm running it on Vista x64 SP1 with the sound set to 24Bit 48k Hz.

It's a reliable and stable motherboard with one click .exe BIOS updates, even under a 64 bit OS. No messing with floppy drives, DVDs/CDs or any other nonsense. Download, point, click and let it go. I love that.

Cons: i975x is a dated chipset and only good for limited overclocking with quad core. If you're content with a Q6600 G-0 @ 3.0-3.5GHz then consider it. I was able to run an E6600 in it @ up to 3.9GHz though.

Other Thoughts: I've also tried this motherboard with SLi "sandwich" cards from nVidia and with Crossfire cards from ATi. It worked fine with both. With ATi you could run three cards in Crossfire, or something like an HD 4870 X2 in one slot and another X2 or an HD 4870 in slot two. With nVidia you're restricted to sandwich cards like their 9800 GX2, for example.

To Intel, put IDT drivers with Sonic Focus on your X58 board. I might try it.

4 out of 5 eggsfollowup review

Pros: Good overall ,not the best of Intel boards, although high priced. Many Bios updates available.Solid built.

Cons: The on board sound has many problems, static, clicks etc.
Intel has a fix,Sigmatel driver deleted,updated to IDT --
not very much better. I purchased a PCI sound card ( HT Omega Striker $85.00)from Newegg, Now the sound is excellent(read my review on Newegg OT Omega Striker sound card).

Other Thoughts: After using this INTEL board over a year, and two of my other systems with Intel and Asus motherboards, I think Intel choose the wrong company (Sigmatel) for the sound driver and software.By the way, Sigmatel is out of business.Intel recommends IDT fix. Poor results.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Board

Pros: MB setup was easy once I figured out that the Mavell RAID was worthless. Board works great. Am very happy with it.

Cons: There's no real explaination on why user would choose Intel RAID over Marvell RAID. Google Marvell RAID and this board and you'll find many complaints. I disabled secondary (Marvell) controller in BIOS and all is fine.

Other Thoughts: A bit pricey but I wanted my first build to go smoothly (and it did). I needed parallel and serial ports for legacy applications.

5 out of 5 eggsTo the overclock

Pros: High overclocking capability:
Pentium D 3.2 (4.7ghz expensive fan/TEC cooled)
Holds stability with OC as long as you have stable ram.
This is a better over clocking motherboard than anything else I have seen out there when I purchased this as year ago and still stand by this statement today.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: You need to realize that if you are overclocking with for example 800mhz ram, you need to set the frequency down to 667 or even 533 in order to keep your overclock because the processor overclock ratio will set the frequency too high if you leave it at 800...the result will be either 3 beeps and require a cmos reset or a BSOD when you have marginal stability.

2 out of 5 eggsClose but no cigar

Pros: Man this board has the potential to be sick. Tons of bios options, easy to OC, etc etc. Unfortunately all the problems it gave me made me knock it down to 2 stars.

Cons: First, it's very selective about what kind of CPU you can use. My fault for not reading though, returned CPU (thanks newegg) and got a Q6600.

Next up, setting up raid. The drivers for the Intel controller WOULD NOT WORK. At all. So I switched over to the Marvell controller. BSOD, due to the fact that you can't use a sata DVD drive.

Other Thoughts: My company has had me build several $2500+ systems over the past few months, and I stuck with the EVGA 780i and the Q6600. I finally decided to test other waters with this board and I'm paying for it. Stay away, unless your willing to spend about a week getting your OS installed (I got this setup about 5 business days ago, and am JUST NOW at my Win XP Pro desktop.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great Board. Solid Reliability and Fast. Have owned for over a year and it has been one of the best MBs ive ever owned.

Cons: Original Drivers were a little buggy. Update to the latest Bios and Drivers and it runs smooth as butter.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Motherboards...!!!

Pros: These MB's are excellent; Intel based what can I say! They ROCK..!!! I have purchased several of these boards over the past year and used for servers and regular workstations, and ALL are still going strong. Easy to configure; updates are easy; great Intel utilites to use for MB stats and monitoring; Intel phone support is great too! I buy nothing other than Intel, because I am sold on their products. Great packaging, instructions, included setup software, cables, etc.

Cons: NONE..great board! Little pricey, but you get what you pay for these days. Don't skimp $$ if you need a good board.

Other Thoughts: If you want a great MB then look no further. You can't go wrong with this board. Plenty of expansion and other features to utlilize. No overclocking here; using all default settings and this board still smokes with a Quad core processor! My advice to all when building a PC; first of all, go to the motherboard manfuctures website and READ ALL the specs for the motherboard, because not all RAM is compatible & supported. Voltages and brands do make a difference. Not all processors are compatible either, so make sure the motherbord can handle your desires and the other hardware you want to use. Hope that helps.

5 out of 5 eggsOver 1 year later!!!

Pros: I decided to write this review after glancing through some of the recent reviews by unhappy customers. My friend asked me to build him a computer back in 07/2007 or so. I chose this mother board because the ASUS and Gigabyte boards were DOA. I actually purchased the boards from Tyg-er at that time (and got ripped off). You cannot go wrong with this board. You can overclock with this board and the bios is very easy to understand.

PROS: Stability, performance, features, board color combo's, manufacturer, world class customer service and support

Cons: Not compatible with 1333/1600FSB processors.

Other Thoughts: At the time, this was the first desktop computer I had built-ever. The setup was flawless and the instructions were rather easy to follow. I had some issues with RAID and setting up stripes, but that had more to do with my lack of experience then the board itself. Here we are, more than a year later and my friend has been extremely happy with the build. Thank G-o-d-not once has he called me to troubleshoot any hardware issues. I plan on overcloking his Intel Q6600 after we order a nice after market heat sink in the near future. His configuration: INTEL BOXD975XBX2KR MOTHERBOARD, Q6600, 2X1 (4GB TOTAL) PATRIOT DDR2-800 RAM, BFG TECHNOLOGIES (OC2) 8600GTS, LITEON DVD BURNER, COOLERMASTER REAL POWER 750, NZXT APOLLO (BLACK),

1 out of 5 eggsAwful

Pros: Came with some nice blue cables.

Cons: RMA'd it twice. First time it would not post and no beeps and no video. I RMA'd the CPU and the board. Received second board and same exact issue. It simply would not POST and no beeps and no video . Fan would spin lights would come on but that was it. Intel was no help and they suggested I was unlucky and got two bad boards. I got this board because of the reviews on how stable it was, I spent two plus hours trying to track down where the problem was with no luck. Won't try a third time, going with asus rampage.

Other Thoughts: Newegg was quick to ship the replacements. Go newegg!
