Great Board but READ manual!!!
- Pros: Originally bought this board as Open Box for a great price but it came with NOTHING. It was even shipped in an ASUS box. Had to buy I/O shield from Intel but had cables etc. from previous builds. Intel's website isn't the most user-friendly but it does cover utterly everything if you learn the site. Onboard eSATA for NAS or backup to external HDD is lightning fast. Will never use USB or FireWire again.
- Cons: Memory related bugs are cited throughout the reviews but most problems are because people don't read the manual. Top of the page on Installing and Removing Memory reads, "To be fully compliant with all applicable Intel SDRAM memory specs, the board requires DIMMs that support Serial Presence Detect data structure." I'm guilty too. I assumed any memory would work so I bought based on cost. Initally bought OCZ high-performance gaming 2 GB DDR3 1333 MHz, installed it, booted up, and got three beeps on post. Error code indicates no memory. I returned/replaced the memory with the SPD compliant Extreme memory designed for the board for Intel by OCZ. No problems. Memory must support SPD otherwise you will have consistent problems. Most off-the-shelf memory does not.
- Other Thoughts: DX38BT MB

great board
- Pros: posted on first boot running windows vista ultimate 64-bit using 2gb patriot ddr3 pc1600 memory updated the bios after os install no crashes no problems at all so far good oc options in bios also supports croosfire lots of ports, good on board sound
- Cons: there was a new chipset a month later
- Other Thoughts: if you run your memory at the front sidebus speeds and keep the voltage at 1.5 you shouldnt have the memory problems everyone is talking about. i used the intel express bios method to flash the bios. ive owned a lot of intel motherboards never had a failed bios update with this method
Lesson in memory problems...
- Pros: Good marking of connectors, solid performance, eSata and lot's of USB ports on back panel. RAID easy to configure: didn't need to F6-load drivers before OS install.
- Cons: SATA connections covered by larger graphics cards, like NVidia GTX 280. 6 connectors on the board, so losing two wasn't a problem for me.
Only Firewire 400 on back panel (not a big issue)
- Other Thoughts: Initially, the system I built using this board had random crashes. No blue screen, just complete shutdown. It would happen inconsistently, but seemed to be more frequent when moving files or getting Vista updates. Updating BIOS and drivers didn't fix. Vista System tools showed no unusual events (other than the shutdown was unexpected... No Sxxx!) Originally, I thought it was a MoBo issue with Vista 64. Intel Tech support suggested I check the memory (4 sticks of 2Gb DDR3 1333Mhz). Ran MemTest (a great little utility!) from a CD before OS load and found a couple of defects. Switched to new RAM and the system is now rock-solid. Lesson: check the memory if you have odd system behavior. It took 6 passes through the RAM for the defect to surface.
One other note: the secondary SATA controller runs your IDE devices. If you're mucking around in the BIOS, don't disable it if you have an IDE DVD...
