5 out of 5 eggsgreat basic server mobo

Pros: This motherboard is rock solid and super stable. I like the Intel server bios and the amount of control you get with it. Dual nics are nice. Intel documents everything very well, sometime you have to do a bit of digging through pdfs to find it, but it's there. The board runs pretty cool even under high utilization of IO.

Cons: An IDE port or two would have been nice, but by far this is no deal breaker. The case connector is intended to be used with a Intel made server case, but there is a pin out in the very complete technical manual (need to download from their site) that will allow you to put it in any case.

Other Thoughts: I'm running debian on this with a x3360 cpu and KVR800D2E5K2 ram and I have never had any issues what so ever. I know this isn't high in the server world, but I'm going on an uptime of 98 days right now. Paired with this quad core xeon, this board makes a good basic virtualization platform (I use Xen). People complain about the time it takes for Intel sever boards to post, well that's just due to to the number of test being run, and let me say when you need to do some trouble shooting, all those tests and being able to look up the error codes is extremely handy.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat entry level server motherboard

Pros: Solid motherboard. Dual Nics, minimal graphics and no sound which is what I wanted for a server. Plug it in and forget about it.

Cons: The motherboard is slow to boot. Had a little trouble with the video drivers coming from windows update. When I tried to update them the screen went black and I had to go into safe mode to rollback the drivers.

Other Thoughts: I did have an issue with one of my servers getting blue screens. I swapped the OCZ non-ECC ram for Kingston 2GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM ECC DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Intel Certified Server Memory Model KVR800D2E5/2GI - Retail . No problems since. I can't remember the last time I rebooted one of these.
