OverviewCustomer ReviewSpecificationsProduct Tour
Intel makes your CPU; why not have them make your motherboard as well? The BOXDG43NB is an LGA775 board supporting processors from the Core 2 Quad to the Celeron so you can build a system powerful enough for your needs that you can easily upgrade later. You can add up to 4GB of DDR2 800 memory to support the operating system.

The motherboard is designed to support the advanced features that today's power users are looking for. It has a 6 channel audio system for true surround sound. It also has 6xUSB, 1xFireWire and both D-Sub and DVI ports for the GMA X4500 video subsystem.

File sizes are getting larger, especially for audio and video, so we need more secure ways to manage our data. There are 6xSATA internal ports so you can hook up plenty of drives. Since you have plenty of available connectors you can use one drive for the OS and software and have extra drives for data. This speeds up system performance, especially when multi-tasking.

Great Board - Hands Down!

white Reviewed By: TomInFolsom on 12/25/2008

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: On-board videochip is great! Easy to install! IDE & SATA connects. Can use with E8400, just have to make sure you have the correct revision!
Cons: Was a little difficult to get the Intel CPU fan mounted - took about 10 minutes. Other than that, nothing wrong at all.
Other Thoughts: I was a little hesitant to get this board for the E8400 I was also getting, but after reading up on intel's website, I decided to go ahead and make the purchase. GOODNESS! I am very impressed! Big upgrade over my old ECS board & Pentium4 CPU combo!

Good, inexpensive enterprise solution

Tech Level Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: This motherboard can serve as the backbone for a good, economical, enterprise-class computer. The Intel GMA 4500 graphics display engine can easily accommodate most common 2D office applications, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and Publisher, through either VGA or DVI outputs, preferably mated with at least a decent dual core processor. This MB is particularly appropriate when you are hardware limited and must use existing PS2 keyboard and mouse peripherals. And having the Intel three year warranty, easy bios upgrading capability, and a spare PCIe x16 slot as a backup, make this a cost effective solution. Having additional PCI slots is a real plus as well.
Cons: The MCH and ICH are rated up to 101/103 °C, but as previously noted, the north and south bridges tend to run on the ‘toasty’ side, commonly in the 60° C range in a poorly ventilated case, in the 40s to 50s in better ventilated cases. You have only two ram slots, but for most office applications, two, one gig sticks will be more than sufficient. And this board is not too fond of IDE devices, either hard drives or optical drives. I wouldn’t entertain purchasing this board unless you plan on exclusively using SATA drives, if you want a trouble-free install. Finally, check the Intel web site for memory compatibility and stay with 1.8 v sticks.
Other Thoughts: This board is easiest to set up by going into the BIOS w/F2 at post and setting the drive configuration mode from AHCI to IDE, and the ATA/IDE mode to Native. If installing XP, I would recommend a slipstreamed disk with SP2, and SP3; Intel provides WHQL certified drivers for XP and Vista on their web site. Coupled with an e5200 and two Gigs of memory, this MB makes for a low-cost enterprise client or basic home machine, with decent capability. Shucks, add a good PCIe 2.0 graphics card, and even do some gaming. However, while Intel motherboards are known for their stability, this usually comes at the expense of not having much, if any, overclocking capability.

Not for a server.

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Cheap, Has Intel name and reputation.
Cons: PCIx16 Slot ONLY works for graphics. You cannot use the x16 slot for anything except graphics. I bought this to be a chep little server. But it doesn't even boot if you put a controller card in the slot.

What a joke. Also this board does not have Intel RAID onboard. Its 6 plain jane SATA ports and thats it.
Other Thoughts: Everything other reviewers said here is true. Bios is minimal and doesn't do much other than set boot order. No verbose boot screen or memory test.

Pros: Good set of expansion slots, internal I/O, and external I/O. Board seems stable and reliable so far (one week, running more-or-less continuously as a MythTV system).
Cons: There's no proper paper manual, just a poor fold-out poster with icons in preference to words. I was left scratching my head a couple of times. A PDF manual is available on Intel's Web site. I recommend getting it.

Good Midrange Board

Tech Level Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: I like Intel boards. I like the quality of the boards and their onboard functionality - like the quiet technology that runs the case and CPU fans only as much as needed. Stress tested this unit with Prime95/speedfan using a 45nm Wolfdale 8200 and 4GB memory. Lit it up for hours on end with no issues. Intel has some nifty temperature and voltage monitoring software that actively monitors the board. The Intel support is 2nd to none with gobs of great docs (like the tech product specs) and easy to get at BIOS/driver updates. Unlike other MB manufacturers, I am never afraid to do a BIOS or chipset update. A simple click on an exe and a reboot and off you go. The onboard graphics work just fine for nongamer apps including Photoshop.
