4 out of 5 eggsIB-9

Pros: 2 IDE controllers

Cons: Not sure if needing a floppy drive to install IDE drivers is a con cause this is my first 965 board.

Other Thoughts: This board really makes u think hard when trying to install XP.Got it working after I finally saw where I was going wrong when I went to boot from cd in BIOS.I have one question concerning the IDE Scan screen. Can I make this screen not appear when I am first starting up my pc.

5 out of 5 eggsREAD THIS for proper installation -- Amazing Board!

Pros: -Intel P965 chipset
-100% solid capacitors (Japan manufactured caps)
-ITE ATA chipset instead of buggy JMicron found on other boards
-CPU fan socket + 3 case fan sockets
-Included SATA to IDE connector, which is required for OS installation.

Cons: -ITE is not natively supported: Software's fault
-Might have to reset CMOS for everything to work properly
-Might have to manually set the CPU parameters
-Double boot issue found on other 965 boards, though not an annoyance at all
-Red LED to indicate power to the board; would've preferred green

Other Thoughts: -Audio is Realtek ALC888 chip and LAN is Realtek 8110SC.

Before installing, you must have your optical drive connected to SATA via the SATA to IDE connector. While installing, if you are using an IDE drive, then you must either integrate or have drivers ready on a floppy disk. Drivers, including a IDE driver disk utility, is included on the Abit disc. After installing, you can connect the optical drive to the IDE connector. For Vista, if it does not have the ITE8211 driver, the ITE8212 driver will work, because they use the same driver!

I know all of this is a hassle, but you get a high quality board for your work, at an amazing price! If you don't see some devices being detected or you run into some bios errors, RESET the CMOS! That's it! Then redo your bios settings and everything should run smoothly. (Again, ITE8211 and ITE8212 use the same drivers.)

4 out of 5 eggsRuns stable, but no BIOS update.

Pros: Runs stable, has all IO's I needed. Works fine with 2.1v rated OCZ RAM.

Cons: Reboot problem still not fixed. Latest BIOS was released last December. Come on, my Gigabyte DS3 is enjoying 12th update BIOS. Where is ABIT support?

Other Thoughts: My next MB? It could be a Gigabyte or ASUS, or even a ECS. They all have good support and they release BIOS to solve problems. I can hardly see why I will buy a ABIT again simply due to BIOS update issue.

4 out of 5 eggsagony to install, wonderful when it's done

Pros: This this is a GREAT board. totally stable, idling at about 37C (and I've even got an 8800 OC'd with PLENTY of heat coming off it). My rig hasn't once crashed with this board. Looks great, 4 DDR2800 slots, nice heatsinks on north and southbridge. EASY overclocking, super stable. And with the low price, definatly tons of bang for the buck with this one.

Cons: Someone very sadistic obviously desgned this board. you WILL NOT be able to install this board without a floppy drive, and in my case an floppy cable because the one that came with the box didn't work, so plan on that right away. Also you can forget about using IDE right off the bat because the board doesn't have the drivers to support it on it. SATA is fine though, and CD drives work. You have to boot from the driver disk that comes with the board, and make a driver floppy. Then start installing windows. It'll ask you if you have any software you want to install, and stick in the driver floppy. Install it, and you're set.

Other Thoughts: I pulled out all my hair, ground my teeth onto powder and cryed for 3 days stright trying to get this thing to work. I was all set to write a very nasty review for it. But once I finally got it working, i am SO impressed by the quality of this board, I have to give it at least 4 stars. I'd give it 5 if it wasn't so absoluetly awful to set up. But, i'm sure anyone can do it. This was my first build so i'm pretty much a noob, and i managed to do it just fine! :P

4 out of 5 eggsDecent Overall board

Pros: Price. It is a decently priced board, with somewhat decent overclocking capability. Multiple CPU compatible.

Cons: 1. No onboard raid. I didnt realize that it is only the more expensive version of Intel ICH8R that offers onboard Raid...but I should have read that on my own. Not a con on this product. 2. Windows load on a SATA drive. First build where I have had to install drivers to get a CD drive to operate. Once I got the blue screen a few times during installation, and read a few reviews here, I got the hint. Again, not a con on the product...more on my stupidity.

Other Thoughts: The dual boot thing is different. First C2D mobo Ive used, and will take some getting used to. Dont bother installing the Abit utility. For the resources it hogs, I can find a better prog to find my cpu temp and fan speeds. After installing and using this board for 2 weeks now, there are other main boards that I would select in this price range. I am happy with this board, but would probably go for a P35 board instead.

1 out of 5 eggsThe burning bag on your doorstep

Pros: Price, I guess

Cons: Absolutely terrible installation.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy it. If you do, use the provided SATA bridge because it is your only hope of getting this thing to boot or install windows. That and loading the ITE controller from the ABIT driver diskette. I have tried BIOS updates and it still does the power on - power off -power on routine. Cute.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great board, cheap, has perfect amount of slots for what i need.

Cons: not really a con but only 1033mhz fsb. people that say this board dosnt support ide drives

Other Thoughts: if you dont have a sata dvd/cd drive you need to puld the little chip into the back of an ide cd drive. then reinstall windows. load some drivers etc. then hook up regualar way with a master/slave set up for 2 drives. bios wont recognize until windows starts so dont worry if they are unlisted you just wont be able to be boot from an ide drive i think

3 out of 5 eggsSetup Issues

Pros: Good Price

Cons: when trying to install Windows it would not recognize my hard drives. Took lots of work with the Sate and IDE drivers to finally get it to work.

Other Thoughts: Looks can be decieving

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Board had 2 ide ports. This seems to be quite rare on the newer PCI-E's. Plenty of USB ports as well.

Cons: When you open the box you get this note stating that you need to run a jumper on your cd/dvd-rom to the sata port to install windows, but fails in the biggest way to say that you needed to create an ite driver disc to actually get windows installed if you are using the ide ports. 2 questions on their site about this board and both deal with this issue. They need to put another note in the box.
