2 out of 5 eggsFailing CPU Fan Header

Pros: Seemed like a solid board

Cons: Ordered this mobo on 11/18/2006 and built the system. Within a couple of minutes I started having abrupt shutdowns. Traced it to the cpu fan stopping (varying periods of time) due to what appears to be a faulty cpu fan header. Contacted Gigabyte and told I could send the board in and wait 3 weeks for them to test. This is my work system and I can't afford that time. They said they won't crosscharge/crossship boards because people screw them.

Other Thoughts: Gigabyte's response time is poor and I had to initiate a phone call and push to talk to a tech. She admitted it was likely a cpu fan controller issue but it was up to the rma group to deal with it. RMA group said send in and that's it. Told them I would post this message and they said to go ahead.

Suggest people think twice before ordering Gigabytle (I won't again).

5 out of 5 eggsNice MB

Pros: Well built, nice layout, excellent cables included, easy install, drivers worked

Cons: None that I can think of

Other Thoughts: I'm thrilled with the MB. I needed a system that could run more than just XP and (Ugh)Vista. After jerking around with an Intel MB, I searched for a board that could do a bit more. I found Gigabyte's Website very helpful, with manuals, drivers, etc. I'm running Windows Server 2003, hardware and software went in with zero problems. I highly recommend this MB.

4 out of 5 eggsThis one's outdated 4 the times.

Pros: This is a great GigaByte mobo, and it hasall the nifty things you'd need 4 a Windows XP system.

Cons: The cons nail this board. First, this GA-965G-DS3 mobo has come in 3 revisions, they are rev. 1, rev. 2, and rev. 3.3. As a couple of guyz have mentioned in these reviews on the board, Newegg was shipping the rev. 1 board, & that won't cut it w/ modern Vista OS. I got the rev. 1 board, & boy did i have troubles. First, i bought it to go w/ the, at the time, very new E6320 C2D Conroe cpu. I learned that i really had to flash the Bios immediately, to get the board to b responsive. GigsByte had a brand new Bios, i think it was F8, for the board, and it was to manage the new E6329 & E6420 cpuS. I worked and worked w/ the board, but it turned out 2 b that the rev. 1 board just couldn't cut it w/ Vista, which u really should run. Just yesterday, Cnet.com reported that, right now, 81% of the world is using Windows XP, and only 5% w/ Vista, and 6% w/ Apple stuff. GigaByte makes the Ultra Durable 2 line boards now, and those can do Vista. The GA-965G-DS3 mobo NIC was bad 4 me.

Other Thoughts: As i said, the Ultra Durable 2 line of boards can do Vista pretty good, and they are recommended over this GA-965G-DS3 Ultra Durable board. My board had the Marvell Corp.'s Yukon line of NIC card/LAN, which was gigabit LAN, but i could never get a reliable internet connection. That was the whole bomb in a nutshell, w/ me not being able to use this board. So, my friends, the GigaByte Ultra Durable 2 line of boards, made after Vista release, are recommended, and i want to say 'yeah' for GigaByte motherboards. Have at 'em.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty good - hot Northbridge

Pros: I'm happy with this MB. Has a boat load of built-in perks like the NIC, graphics, audio. Chipset drivers/graphics/audio all installed nicely from the CD.

Cons: WOW the Northbridge seems so hot. I really think they should have put a fan on it. Don't have much experience with how hot that shoud get, but it is real hot to the touch. There are many options for fan speed control. The manual is not very good at explaining which one you should use and why. The manual is confusing and not clear on installation of the SATA drivers for RAID or AHCI. They go into much detail for RAID using the onboard GB controller, but offer no info on using the integrated Intel controller. Would be nice if there was more than 2 SATA ports for the GB controller. There are 4 for the Intel.

Other Thoughts: Like most motherboard manufacturers...in my opinion the GB website support area sucks and has no phone # to call.

5 out of 5 eggsGet this board if want OSX86 installed

Pros: This board has been great to me! I bought it when the 805D first came out. recently I installed OSX86 10.4.9 and WOW. Everything works on install except audio. The audio is a simple patch!

Cons: Does not over clock well, as its brother the G965P is a over-clocking champ....

Other Thoughts: I a RoR developer, and I was getting ready to buy a Mac Book Pro. But instead I ended up installing OSX86 and saved a whole bunch of money. I currently have XP Pro, Vista Business, Unbuntu, and OSX86 installed. I thoght triple booting was cool, but QUAD booting - over the top!

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I'm not sure about all the overclocking, but I'm able to set all the bios settings to about 80% to max on everything from speed to frequencies. Ofcourse that only works with the right hardware to support it. Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4, 2GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2-800 RAM, GeForce 8800GTS 320MB, ThermalTake 700W Power Supply. This board is fantastic so far with my amazing hardware :)

Cons: I finished the computer assembly one night and woke up the next morning to the cpu fan alarm going off. For some reason the computer didn't shut down from high cpu temp and the cpu still works fantastic so i'm pleased with that. However, both the sys_fan and the cpu_fan get bad alternating voltage because the fans go and stop constantly. Maybe I hooked something up wrong. But as a bypass I hooked the cpu fan straight up on a molex power connector and disabled the alarm and it works perfectly now.

3 out of 5 eggsSlow BIOS, but runs Vista well

Pros: Runs Vista very well, supports quad-core processors, comes with onboard graphics.

Cons: BIOS VERY slow at startup when you haven't configured it. Takes about 4 minutes to launch BIOS menu to configure, but gets fast once you've set it up.

Other Thoughts: Second time I've built a system, and I'm very happy with it so far. 3-day shipping took 3 days this time, nice job Newegg!

5 out of 5 eggsgamer's recognition!

Pros: It's what the box says, great for gamers. I've always used Asus boards but I really like the gigabyte boards now, theyre more well built/engineered than the asus ones.

Lots of features for overclocking and might be appealing for the laid back gamers who just want to play without tweaking their computers so much (ie with voltages)

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: This motherboard lacks the upgrade slots (sli, ddr3) but I'm planning on not upgrading my rig til way later. Hopefully this will last me.

5 out of 5 eggsEggcellent

Pros: Perfect motherboard for the average gamer. I'm running a Pentium D 930 along with an EVGA 8800gts. Extremely easy to overclock memory and CPU with this motherboard. Had some problems with it when I updated drivers and whatnot but what doesn't.

Cons: Wish it came with food.

Other Thoughts: Started up perfectly since day one and it is very easy to customize your computer including bootup options. Very easy to overclock CPU and RAM.
