4 out of 5 eggsNot a bad board

Pros: Not a bad board all things considered. The on-board video is great for average gaming believe it or not. It is capable of running SC2 with low settings @ 1366x768 with 30FPS, which is quite an accomplishment. WoW is playable with High settings at the same resolution with 40FPS, dropping down to 25 FPS in Dalaran. However, the FFXIV benchmark scores a measily 313, so I question the on-board video's ability to play more demanding games (both SC2 and WoW are more CPU-intensive than GPU intensive).

Cons: After about 3 months the on-board video will start to fail, causing Windows Vista to hard-lock due to WMI errors. This is fixable by going into bios and setting the on-board video to use UMA only (as opposed to Sideport + UMA or just Sideport), which leads me to believe the 128MB DDR SidePort memory is at fault.

Other Thoughts: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Processor
4GB's Crucial Ballistix DD3 1600Mhz memory (running 8-8-8-24-36-2T)
150GB IDE Hard Drive (pulled from an old computer)
Sony DVD-RW Drive (pulled from old computer)
Corsair 750 PSU
Coolermaster HAF 922 case
Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit

5 out of 5 eggsVery nice MB

Pros: Very nice looking board with all the amenities of current technology; spacious layout; upgrades easily; dual BIOS can be very handy; MIT in the BIOS is really handy for overclocking; overall, a very quality product.

Cons: The heat sink over NB is a little flimsy so be careful handling the board in that area. The IGP is slow but does the job until it is replaced with a GPU.

Other Thoughts: My old computer also had a Gigabyte MB and it's been running flawlessly for the past 6 years. Until I feel confident my new build with this MB, I am using a KVM switch between this one and my old computer. I'm running the IGP until I have enough saved for a Radeon 5xxx series card.

2 out of 5 eggshappy at first...

Pros: cheap, good overclocking. Nice bios options.

Cons: none immediately. good deal at the price.

Other Thoughts: yeah so 4 months later, the integrated graphics has started burning out.

4 months is not acceptable. Now what am i supposed to do, but without a computer for 3-4 weeks while i wait for a replacement? Not a happy situation.

2 out of 5 eggsNot up to 8GB with 64bit OS

Pros: Works well with 4 GB memory--stable with no issues.

Cons: Not up to supporting 8GB memory with 64bit operating system. This board is advertised as supporting up to 16GB memory but based on my experience I really doubt it. I initially built it with 4 GB of G.SKill memory and Windows XP x32 and it worked fine. I upgraded to WIN7 x64 and 8 GB of memory and the problems started-BSOD. This was with no OC and stock settings. G.Skill suggested changing memory timing and it worked for a couple of days. Gigabyte support suggested increaing North Bridge voltage and it worked for a couple of days and then wouldn't boot at all. Removing 4 GB of memory solved problem with stock settings.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy this board if you plan to install more than 4 GB of memory.

2 out of 5 eggsGigabyte, we have a problem.

Pros: Easy to install, setup, when it runs, it runs really well.

Cons: I bought this MB and installed it, it took a couple restarts to get it to fully power on cold but it finally did. I ran great for a while, then I tried to upgrade from 4GB to 8GB, bought the exact same RAM. After I installed it, it ran great for about an hour then I got the blue screen of death. From there when i restarted I got a number of error messages, and another blue screen, and another, and another. I reinstalled the OS (Windows 7 PRo 64x), with the 8GB I still got the blue screen. I took out the newest 4, ran it again. Again it crashed, I restarted and restarted about 4 times and it worked, no crashes. After updating the BIOS I tried again for the 8GB and again, it crashed. Now I can't shut down the computer or else when I restart it, I'll get an error and it will take 4 more restarts to get it running smooth again. I haven't contacted Gigabyte yet but I'm hoping to get a warranty replacement.

5 out of 5 eggsIt smokes

Pros: Chipset, overclock options, easy to setup, AM3, durable, yada, yada, yada. I could continue if you like? It's my first new Gigabyte board, and I can dig it baby! This thing scores higher than my Quad core Intel workstation at work (which averages maybe a 5.5)

Cons: Mine doesn't have all the fancy colors advertised. It's largely just blue and white...almost ASUS looking. Still, it does look TOTALLY SIC in my all black case. The cabling gets a bit messy, but I'm not showing it off. I've just got a basic computer case.

Other Thoughts: My budget build:

4 out of 5 eggsGreat board after all kinks get worked out

Pros: Amazing board - does what it should and more - runs my Phenom 2 6 core @ 3.6Ghz without problems

Cons: Bios on this board DOES NOT support 6 cores without flashing the bios right out of the box - if you have the same trouble i did, no flash drive you own will work to use the qflash to do this with a 6 core installed. Be prepared to break out an IDE cdrom and toss the bios files on a disk as this was the only way i was able to flash the bios.

Other Thoughts: Im now very pleased with my purchase but would rather have had it work out of the box without all the extra pita stuff i had to go thru
