1 out of 5 eggsno more gigabyte for me

Pros: For a little while it worked well

Cons: This (along with my 5850 and my wife's motherboard) was my first purchase of a gigabyte product. I am incredibly let down. You know the saying, two out of three ain't bad, well zero out of three is bad. All three products from gigabyte were failures. This motherboard has a malfunctioning raid controller. It started out bad. and only got worse. Finally, after rmaing the hdds twice, I realized that the raid controller was failing. From a fresh install of windows 7 64bit (when the install works) it takes about a week for it to become unusable again. It starts with chkdsk running on every boot (usually freezing) and saying that the disk needs to be checked for consistency. shortly after that, one by one the installed programs stop working. I get an error message telling me that there is a missing or corrupt file. finally the operating system stops working altogether. The only way to get the pc going again is to recreate the raid array and reinstall the operating system. aside from that

Other Thoughts: my gpu and wife's motherboard were junk as well. the gpu causes crashes at random, and the motherboard will not recognize the athlon ii cpu (even after a bios check)that was meant for it. Needless to say, I will not purchase another product from gigabyte again. They had their chance, and failed. I hope that you don't fall for the ultra durable branding like I did. As far as I am concerned, ultra durable means jack.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Easy Install

Pros: Everything is marked on the motherboard! I have never had an install this easy. Everything worked right away. It's being going strong for 3 months.

Cons: As stated earlier the Memory slots are close to the CPU. Not that big a deal

-Plenty of PCI ports
-Plenty of USB ports
-Dual Bios

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I used this motherboard in my first build. I can not be happier with it. I haven't had any driver problems. It works exactly as it should.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: USB 3 (not that I use it) and almost too many USB2 ports.

Excellent mix of legacy PCI and modern PCI-Express slots.

I get better throughput to disks with this board than I did with my previous Gigabyte board, even on old first-gen SATA disks.

Ability to run BIOS updates without Windows or DOS is a nice touch--just make sure your USB stick is FAT32 or FAT16! Since I use Linux exclusively, I was quite impressed with that feature, as it was new to me.

Cons: Requires a BIOS update to work with the new six-core CPU's. If you intend to use one of those CPU's, make sure you have an extra AM3 chip you can use to update! I ended up having to buy the cheapest bottom of the barrel socket AM3 Sempron I could find just to run the BIOS update.

SATA port numberings on the board don't match up with what you see on the POST screen. Don't expect SATA0 on the board to be the disk the board boots from by default--you WILL have to change the boot order.

Although there are positions for a total of 8 internal SATA ports, only 6 are soldered in and usable.

Other Thoughts: I coupled this board with a Corsair 650W PSU, 8GB of G.SKILL DDR3-1333 RAM, an eVGA dual-DVI GeForce 9500GT, a Gigabyte case, and the DVD burner and five Seagate hard drives from the system I replaced. Thus far I'm quite pleased.

I wish manufacturers still made boards with no integrated audio functionality. I'm clinging for dear life to an ancient SB Live with an EMU10k1 simply because I've yet to find anything that works better in Linux. Not having to hunt down how to kill the onboard audio would be something I'd greatly appreciate.

All in all, a solid product from Gigabyte. I'm glad I chose this board over the others I was considering.

3 out of 5 eggsDoesn't Really Support AMD Phenom II X6

Pros: Good Board for what I know. Still haven't been able to utilize it fully since I don't have the right chip to upgrade the firmware yet.

Cons: I bought this board with to use with an AMD Phenom II X6. Details say it's compatible. After first attempt at assembly, I determined the board DOA because it would not boot into bios. Replacement board showed same symptoms. Called Gigabyte and they said my chip is only supported AFTER a firmware update. So how exactly am I supposed to give it an update if my chip isn't supported.

4 out of 5 eggsBest Board I have had

Pros: USB 3.0, and an amazing amount of 2.0 slots. Board worked perfect from the start. Runs pretty cool in my system with a cooler master case, and just the fans on the video card, power supply, and one extra. Boots fast with my Phenom II X4 965.

Cons: Had a slight issue with the on board sound. The plugs are a little loose, have to jiggle the head phones around to get them in place properly. Other then that nothing else.

Other Thoughts: Definitely worth the price, and would recommend to friends.

2 out of 5 eggsUnsure - But not happy currently

Pros: It reads nice.

Cons: I've recieved two of these and both appear to be dead. I've tried minimal configurations, breadboarding even, and find the system will not fully power on and the fans barely spin. I know the power supply is good because it powers my old system and at 700 Watts it should be enough to power this system (especially because it has all the hook ups). I cannot verify at current that the CPU is the problem, but I've never had a dead CPU from the outset so I'm disinclined to believe it is failing.

Again, I could be wrong or this could be some really bad luck, but thus far I'm not happy and cannot say I will go Gigabyte again.

Other Thoughts: If I do find I was wrong, I will gladly refute this statement.

4 out of 5 eggsError On Boot

Pros: Everything was as advertised.

Cons: Received an error on first boot "The system has experienced boot failures because of overclocking. Last settings in BIOS setup may not coincide with current H/M states." Since I wasn't trying to overclock I was confused. I was convinced that it was caused by a conflict wit the RAM I was using. Replaced with some other RAM and same error. Decided it had to be the HDD so replaced w/ new one. Turned out not to be the problem.

Decided to email Gigabyte with the problem and they were very helpful in coming up with a solution. Ended up downlaoding the latest BIOS update and that seemed to fix the issue. Apparently a conflict with the CPU (AMD Athalon II X4).

Other Thoughts: I need to RMA one pair of RAM :)

5 out of 5 eggsgreat

Pros: Easy OC and use. Price.

Cons: Didn't pick up my rams settings properly in auto. The ram is very close to the cpu so fitting a large cooler can be a problem but mine worked out fine, just a little cramped.

Other Thoughts: I've generally bought MB's half this price in previous budget builds and this one was well worth the extra money.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Stable Board

Pros: Replaced a Gigabyte GA-MA790X-UD4P with this board to get DDR3 RAM. Just replaced board using new 955BE and 4GB DDR3 RAM with same PSU/Video/HDs and it powered up and loaded all drivers without an issue.

Cons: Location of SATA ports hard to work with in my Lian-Li case. Needed to remove vidoe card and HD cage to plug in cables.

Other Thoughts: Had to go in and set multiplier/clock/timing and voltage but not much of an issue. Running for about a month and Win 7 index is 7.2, up from 5.5 (2- GB DDR2 1066)
