1 out of 5 eggsNice Specs, but won't boot my CPU

Pros: Nice feature set, feels like build quality is high

Cons: My brand new i7-4790 that I bought with this motherboard does not work. Apparently I need the "F4" BIOS installed in order for it to work, and it's obviously not on the board now. so the solution I've read on some forum is to borrow (or buy?!) an older Haswell CPU so I can turn this thing on and flash my bios. DO NOT BUY THIS BOARD WITH AN i7-4790.

5 out of 5 eggsGood mainboard

Pros: Has W-fi which makes more desirable for lan and other things where a mobile computer is needed. Has the support for creative sound blaster. Bois update was not really needed for the 4770k. Has compatibility with Adata memory(just like I thought). setup was simple I like to set the memory voltage. has a few different versions of raid and support.

Cons: going from the x58 to this was a bit cumbersome as far as bios is concerned I'm assuming most of this is a build up from p-55 and 1157 processor control ability in the bios. It has creative sound blaster support hint hint. It's good but off the bat it failed to provide 7.1 surround sound or at least in a easy manner. Another con is that it has usb 3.0 all over the place on the board which is good, but if your using the 3.0 header for the front panel usb 3.0 then it deletes the first usb header closest to the front of the board on the bottom. so its a either or situation 3.0 header in blue or standard size usb closest to the front. One will encounter problems with system starting and stoping if one attempts to use 3.0 header and first usb closest to the front of the mainboard. Air cooler on the 1150 mainboards or at least the two gigabytes that I own it's important that one tightens the aircooler down good starting and stopping issues occured for me because of that and it was difficult to get to the bottom of that problem. Thought I had a bad board but stuck it out and kept problem solving. There are features for full controlability of this unit something to keep in mind like when setting up the cd drive on the marvell gsata chipset I.E. making sure it is set to ACHI not raid starting and stopping issues occured.

Other Thoughts: Full controllability of the mainboard I love it, could not ask for a better new mainboard unit though the 87 is slight on the new side this one packs the features. And was a good install for me. One of the main things to keep in mind with the 1150 series processors and mainboards for me is that it has full controllability of everything. But unlike more powerful x79 type and i don't know maybe servers or something.....IS THAT it controls everything but does not favor having every port and header used at the same time. all in all with that in mind it's not the most powerful but if used right is quite the trick star.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid Motherboard

Pros: A very solid motherboard. Nice that is has a legacy PCI port, too; very useful for older but still good expansion cards.

Color-coated LED headers. Plenty of fan headers.

VT-d fully supported.

Works great on Xubuntu 14.04 and Windows 7.

Cons: No Linux BIOS flash support. You either have to install windows or boot from a liveCD using freedos to flash the BIOS. This is the only reason for my 4/5 rating.

5 out of 5 eggs  Great board

Pros: On board wifi/Bluetooth is a huge plus.
Easy to overclock my RAM. I'm assuming its easy to overclock my CPU, but at the moment I'm not running a K-series CPU.
Lots of fan headers. I shoved this into an Alienware Area-51 case from 2004, and have more fans than I'll ever need hooked up to it.

Cons: The only thing I would change is the placement of the PCI/e ports. Purely because putting any card in one of the other x16 slots bumps the GPU slot down to x8, but even if you were running a GTX Titan you wouldn't notice a difference. Also the SMA antenna ports should be better advertised as the SMA form factor. I've spent too long looking for replacement antennae.

Other Thoughts: The SATA ports are at an awkward 90-degree angle, but that's the same as every other modern mobo out there. It's more a flaw with my 10 year old case.

5 out of 5 eggsStable and Fast

Pros: As good as it gets. Easy to set up and overclock my 4770K. This board and a 500gb SSD is FAST and stable. Runs my Premiere Pro CS6 with ease. An easy 5-stars.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Would be nice to find some use for the Thunderbolt ports for editing. Maybe YOU know...

1 out of 5 eggsLemon or just bad board

Pros: Bios options are nice and well explained

Cons: Poor overclock results
Wifi disconnection

Other Thoughts: I bought along with several pieces of high end gear. In the end, I can barely overclock my 4770k and wifi is constantly failing. Since I paid a huge premium for this board just to get on board wifi, I feel like I totally lost my money.

For the record, I had a pci wifi n card which I've added to test the wifi and I get solid results. Since I was told ac wireless was even stronger, I was hoping to at least get the same connection performance but not at all.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid MOBO with plenty of tweaks

Pros: Feature packed, Thunderbolt interface, well made.

Cons: Relatively easy to setup. Though, weird that you must have two Windows preinstall drivers on USB stick to complete the initial setup, but that's about it.

1 out of 5 eggsWon't Consistently Boot

Pros: Spec sheet is nice, BIOS easy to navigate and looks nice

Cons: About 75% of the time, the board gets hung during the boot process. Using their debug LEDs it gets hung at different stages without any consistency. If I reboot the PC enough times it will eventually make it through the boot, and once inside windows it is perfectly stable. I'm waiting for Gigabyte to acknowledge my RMA request.

Other Thoughts: On paper this board looks great, but it looks like I'm not the only one who is experiencing this issue.

1. Have you tried to isolate the problem by testing with the minimum system config: motherboard, CPU, onboard graphics, and 1 stick of memory module?

2. Is the Bios the most current?

1 out of 5 eggsBad Board

Pros: none

Cons: I have tried to boot this board with ram in different locations, I have unhooked everything, still refuses to boot it is hung up in the boot process cant even get into bios..

Other Thoughts: It would seem that gigabyte would do better quality control and test each board before shipping

1. Is the monitor connected to the onboard or add-on graphics card?
2. Is the ATX12V firmly connected to the board?
3. Please attempt with the minimum system config: motherboard, CPU, onboard graphics, and 1 stick of memory module only.

5 out of 5 eggsPlease Read

Pros: Just wanted to comment that a previous review indicated that this motherboard was thunderbolt 2.0. That would be FALSE. This motherboard only will support thunderbolt 1.0 and there are two ports.

Cons: None
