2 out of 5 eggsIt has nice looks..but not much substance

Pros: It looks good and is a quality build.

Cons: Not windows 10 ready and no drivers and utilities work. The 7870k I installed said it worked with the latest bios but ran incredibly hot and was throttled..poor bios..it's weak.ram was not stable besides 1600 MHz.Avoid.

2 out of 5 eggsSecond board, even more problems

Pros: - Gets one egg for looking pretty and having a nice VRM section.

Cons: - Too many component failures
- Awful BIOS

Other Thoughts: I've had two of these boards now, the first one failed completely after a few weeks. I was luckily within my return window and just sent it back, deciding to go with a different platform.

Now a year later I give it a chance again, and I get a bad RAM slot, intermittent USB 3.0 ports and failed onboard audio. The BIOS is typical Gigabyte, it looks nice but is missing key features like the ability to disable spread spectrum or see PCIe solid state drives that its most direct competition can do just fine. Overclocking is likewise a poor experience, I have a Crossblade Ranger as well and with the same chip (860K) that board can reach 4.8ghz with 2400mhz memory and 2200NB, the Gigabyte can't even POST at stock frequencies with 2400mhz RAM.

3 out of 5 eggsIt works, but

Pros: I successfully installed both Windows 10 Preview and Ubuntu. My previous install had a bad hard disk drive.

Cons: Currently, when booting from a DVD or Ubuntu I can't select any menu option. The computer doesn't respond - even with a wired keyboard. I wonder if it is a configuration option that I am missing. The boot menu simplify selects the default option.

Other Thoughts: If I can figure out why the boot option is not working then it will be perfect.

Newegg - please remove my previous review as it was not the motherboard, but a hard drive.

5 out of 5 eggsvery nice looking

Pros: Very beautiful board.. After I painted the heat sink, best board I think I've ever seen.
The board has every feature I expected and more. Over clocked my chip very easily, and if you have a failed boot it will ask to reset your bios.

Cons: 2 cons for me, 1 was the red heatsinks, but all boards are like that now -_-
2 most people won't have this problem, but the heatsink screws are real easy to break.

Other Thoughts: After painted white, looks epic in my white NZXT h440 with rgb lighting.

1 out of 5 eggsCan't install windows :(

Pros: I think it will be a good board - if I can get the Windows to install. I installed ubuntu 14.04.o2 LTS with no problems. It needs an ethernet driver, but I know it has one as the live CD had internet when installing.

Cons: Couldn't get Win XP, or Win 7 Ultimate to install I keep getting "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD.....<garbage>". Even when I pressed a key, it wouldn't install :(

Other Thoughts: I put in a support request with http://esupport.gigabyte.com/Login and am waiting for a response.

5 out of 5 eggsFast, Stable, FM2+ or FM2

Pros: Quick flawless setup, easy BIOS update, easy CMOS reset. Stable with A10-7800, A10-6700, and X4-740.

Cons: A little short on fan connectors. My FM2A85 has more. I still don't like the current fad of having horizontal SATA connectors - a chrome-plated PITA for maintenance and cable routing

Other Thoughts: This is my main Photoshop machine and it cheerfully accepted all the memory (32GB), drives (7), monitors (3) and peripherals I could throw at it, including several PCIE devices.

5 out of 5 eggsPrice to performance king of the FM2+ socket world!

Pros: Super sturdy and well built!

Deep Black PCB and dark red heatsinks (Photos make them look washed out)

Better than avg phase power design for this socket (FM2+) for overclocking

Power and reset buttons as well as a backup BIOS

The price!!!!

Cons: No SLI

Poorly place fan headers and not enough of them

Limited options in the BIOS for overclocking.

Other Thoughts: First let me say that photos do not do this board justice. The PCB is jet black and beautiful and the heatsinks are a deep red. The power button on the board made my life easy because as a first time builder I thought it would be smarter to make sure the system posted BEFORE I bolted the components inside the case. With that said I was lucky that my board shipped with the F5 BIOS and my Athlon 860K was recognized no issues. The sturdiness of the board gave me confidence to snugly fit everything on it. It is a very well made board. Overclocking is easy and the board handles the juice very well, although I didn't win the silicone lottery with the CPU I cannot fault the board for that. The only board on this socket that is probably better is the ASUS Crossblade Ranger, but who's paying 160 bucks for an FM2+ board?

5 out of 5 eggsThe very best I've worked with yet!

Pros: As others have said, this board is beautiful. I'd go as far as to say it's a work of art. Easy to color match with tons of high performance components available. More importantly, is how well it's made. Under the high stress of connecting even the toughest terminals from other devices didn't create any problem. It is a heavy board, and truly is ultra durable. The layout was nearly perfect, with lots of options to expand and upgrade within it's design platform. FM2+ and DDR3 being the limitation for these. Still, for the money and ease of use I just couldn't be any happier. At default settings it ran a 6.8 Windows Experience Index right out of the box, with 360 Total Security measuring a 19 second boot up time! I've only just begun to explore the overclocking capabilities. Using air, my 40$ Cooler Master is keeping the GPU at less than 100*F under load and it's running a mere 55.3*F right now. The case and hard drive temps are just 81*F. Fans are all in silent mode settings in Bios. Plus, I haven't needed any Gigabyte support. It's literally been plug and play, and the latest Windows 7 Professional almost loads itself all the way to the registration, and log in pages. So easy, and just works beautifully!

Cons: I'm not a heavy gamer, nor can I afford the fastest and most expensive hardware, so if you are looking to set records with this board I think you could do better, but for the economy minded builder for general computing, this thing absolutely rocks, so no con really.

Other Thoughts: NewEgg gets 10 eggs from me on this board. I received the latest version, packed well, and on sale along with a mail in rebate that actually worked. My build...

4 out of 5 eggsVery Nice MB

Pros: Over all very well laid out, a lot of SATA ports, durable, the heat sinks on the chip sets appear to be very nice also. This MB boots very quickly, and the BIOS is very easy to navigate. It comes with 3 SATA 3 cables, which was a nice surprise.

Cons: The only thing I have found wrong with this MB is the placement of the SATA ports for the HD's. They face the back of the drives instead of facing up like most other boards. When you have drives near the SATA ports there is very little room to get your fingers in there to hook up the cables. You better have small hands to make it easy.

2 out of 5 eggsPoor memory and BIOS support

Pros: Nice looking board. Large and feels solid.

Cons: Poor memory support. Few, and slow BIOS updates.
I have an A10-7850K and Kingston HyperX Beast RAM. The RAM is part number HX324C11T3K2/16. It is a new model of HyperX beast and was made early 2015.

This RAM does NOT work on this Gigabyte motherboard at it's full 2400 Mhz speed. The ram does run full 2400 Mhz speed on two other motherboards: Asus A88XM-A and MSI A88X-G43. Yes, this is using the same A10-7850K apu.

Yes, I have the latest official F7 bios on the Gigabyte F2A88X-UP4 motherboard.
I tried enabling XMP, and I also tried manual settings.
I tried raising the NB voltage, and also Ram voltage.

I contacted Gigabyte through their support system, and I created a post on their forums. It's been over a month and they never answered the forum post.
They contacted me when I created a support ticket, but they just kept saying that Kaveri only supports 2133 Mhz RAM and anything over that is overclocking, which isn't guaranteed.
That answer is very maddening considering the same RAM and APU work perfect together on two other motherboards.

So my recommendation: stay away if you plan on using 2400 RAM on this board.
Also note that the memory QVL list for this board is dated late 2013. It is very outdated, and many of the RAM kits on the list are obsolete and no longer for sale.

In other words, good luck. I would pass on this board and get one from another brand so you can have decent support.

Other Thoughts: Pass on this one. Poor memory support, and very outdated memory QVL so getting compatible memory is very hard. Also Gigabyte won't guarantee that any 2400 RAM will work with Kaveri.
