1 out of 5 eggsDead Board

Pros: Looks nice, simple and well-constructed layout. But that doesn't mean much when the board is DOA.

Cons: Board was dead on arrival/DOA.

Other Thoughts: A really big bummer. I will be going with ASRock, Asus or MSI now, won't trust gigabyte for motherboards again after this bad experience (I had a good graphics card from them once, so I thought this might be the ticket, but I guess I made a bad choice here).

The other relevant components of this failed project,
Crucial 2x4 DDR3-1600 ram kit
AMD Athlon 860k CPU
EVGA 430w PSU. I thought it might have been the PSU at first so I also tested it with an already working (300w) PSU from another brand, that didn't work either.

1 out of 5 eggsSomething wrong with rev 3.1

Pros: I had purchased two of these previously months ago. They worked flawlessly. This recent one not so! Previous working two are Rev 3.0. This one sent is Rev 3.1!!!

Cons: Serious issues with BIOS and booting. Fails to load Hard drives and USB drive sticks for install. First I thought my USB was corrupt failing to load any Windows installations. Used another stick with a fresh Windows 7 ISO. Still same issue. USB loads fine in ALL other computers. Tried changing BIOS settings (legacy, ACHI, native IDE, usb settings), different USB ports, bare minimum connected to mobo, different PSU, different hard drives, optimized defaults. All set effect. Sometimes the computer wouldn't even post with out SEVERAL reboots and killing power on the PSU for a couple minutes. It was just completely UNSTABLE. BIOS would freeze and at times keep jumping on and off. Fighting with with four hours on end. Failed loading DVD discs or CDs.. It was hard for me to even boot SEATOOLS or MEMcheck from disc. Every peice was brand new from New Egg. I have two other of these boards only difference is they are rev 3.0 this one was rev 3.1. The other two were flawless. This was such a headache. Needed this built for a client and now will be delayed significantly. I am going MSI and will update if something somehow could even be a failure on my end.

Other Thoughts: I have been building desktops since I was 10 years old.. Thats 23 years now. When Gigabyte first introduced into the market I was a loyal cutomer they were flawless. Something has happened. This failed set up consists of...

this mobo (GA-F2A78M-HD2 (rev. 3.1)
AMD A8 7600
New Seagate 1TB hard drive (plus tested several others)
430w EVGA PSU (plus tested with 650W Corsiar PSU, both brand new)
8G PNY 1600 DDR3 RAM (tested and 100% functional)

3 out of 5 eggsDecent Board

Pros: Did everything I needed and made what little overclocking I wanted quite easy.

Cons: Only two memory slots and a single PCIE port... but I knew that getting into it.

Other Thoughts: Should have spent the extra money on a better board.

4 out of 5 eggsBeware misdirection

Pros: Small easy
easy to install
mostly good directions

Cons: Directions somewhat lacking in certain areas
8-pin power port is supported by 4-pin power plug... confusing
Mobo speaker that comes with it is not supported by the mobo

Other Thoughts: I would not recommend this motherboard for first time builds, plugs and ports do not make sense all the time and there are a lot of issues with it not posting. I was able to get it to post after tinkering for a few hours. I hope it continues to work.

1 out of 5 eggs Will Not work with AMD's New Carrizo CPU

Pros: Works with older FM2+ CPU's

Cons: Gigabyte did not release a bios upgrade for this board. Will Not work with AMD's New Carrizo CPU

Other Thoughts: I just bought this motherboard in December 2015 and now I find out gigabyte will not update the bios to work with the Carrizo CPU (x4 845 and x4 835 CPU's).

5 out of 5 eggsGreat budget board!

Pros: Rock solid for almost 2 years now. Super easy setup and install.

Cons: Are there really cons at this price? It is a budget board. I don't go to McDonald's and expect a filet mignon to come out!

Other Thoughts: This board has been great for the 2 years I have had it. This system wasn't meant to be a gaming platform or see any serious workloads thrown at it. I built a system that could play old titles (Command and Conquer, Stronghold, etc.) and surf the internet when I wanted. It has done that very well. I highly doubt there have been a lot of DOA boards as well. More than likely people running incompatible parts or they don't know what they're doing. I have built about 15 systems over the years and never had a single piece of hardware come in DOA. I know others build 15 a month and may see some DOA but it is pretty rare from everything I can find. These companies would be out of business if they had a ton of DOA products out there.

AMD A10-5800k
Team Dark 8gb DDR3-1600 RAM
Transcend 64gb SSD
WD 1TB HDD

This system has been flawless for everything I wanted and cost less than $350 total.

5 out of 5 eggsStill pretty good

Pros: Easy to install, started with the A8 series APU then upgraded to A10. That required a BIOS update and it took it with out any problem.
Did not like Windows 10 at all!!!! (50/50 on weather its a pro or con)

Cons: A couple of things to note:
Only one system fan port and one CPU/APU fan port. Any extra fans are direct to PSU.
RAM slots slightly closer together on this MB than on some other micro ATX so cooling can be an issue with OC Mem.
DID NOT like Windows 10 at all!!!!

Other Thoughts: Over all I am happy with this MB for what I ask it to do. The games I play work great on Med high graphics using the Integrated Graphics and still run 45-60 FPS. Keeping in mind this is NOT a gaming board! This board is more of an intermediate performance board good for more then just surfing the web and email but not a hardcore gaming rig. It is good for a developer doing photo editing, web design, video editing, publishing...etc.

1 out of 5 eggsFirst and last time buying a gigabyte brand

Pros: Fast replacement shipping when returning.

Cons: Went through 3 of these mb before I got a working one, and even then not a full 100%. Sees ram but will not access it been trying to contact their customer support for this issue but so far my plees have fallen on deaf ears.

3 out of 5 eggsOK

Pros: It works and has a usb 3 header. Thats about it

Cons: Bios feels unstable. I updated to newest and still same. Don't plan on using the pcie if a big vid card is put in.
Does not like win 10. I had to go with 8. Says 4k support but I'm not sure what that means. I'm using a 7850k apu, Youtube was choppy at 4k but did play 1440p.

Other Thoughts: I guess stay away if you want a more modern pc. I got this in a bundle and gonna stay away from this model in the future. Too bad, gigabyte used to be my go to trusty for a board.
