5 out of 5 eggsGreat Board!

Pros: HD Audio, DDR2 & DDR3 memory, easy to install, plenty of room for addtional sata drives, gigabit ethernet. Starts up just fine and runs beautifully.

4GB of ram is great unless you are doing hardcore CAD design any gamer will rock with 4GB.

Cons: People who don't reasearch their processors then blame the boards.

Other Thoughts: I built this for a MPCon lan party and it was awesome. The stats are great, the performace was flawless. The E8400 screams with this MoBo and a BFG9600 OC 512mb card plays great with all the games I've tried so far: Orange Box games, Crysis (all on high) very smooth I should add, City of Heroes / City of Villains, Need for Speed Carbon, Day of Defeat. All with no problems at all with Mobo.

4 out of 5 eggsNot that bad, overall...

Pros: Never had any problems using MSI's DOT program. This mobo will accept DDR3 memory, but why buy that when DDR2 is just as good.

Cons: Can only use 4GB max on the board at a time. The 2 DDR3 slots wont function with DDR2 in them. I had to flash the bios due to machine shutting off and rebooting by itself. For some reason it took way too long to get the OS to load properly.. Probably because of the bios issue.

Other Thoughts: not a bad board, DOT really limits the voltages you can set. According to specs the E6550 that I have in here, max vcore is 1.25, and DOT wont let me go below 1.3V.

3 out of 5 eggsCheap, but...

Pros: Cheap. Supports DDR3.

Cons: Posts but won't boot if the COM port is disabled. You heard that right...I can't believe it myself. Must be a BIOS bug. I have the 1.6 BIOS.

Other Thoughts: This board is not much good for overclocking. Doesn't allow you to adjust the ram voltage. The option is in the BIOS, but it is grayed out. DDR3 is only cost-effective if you can overclock it.

5 out of 5 eggsNice board

Pros: Nice board with unique red color. Intel P35 support future 45nm, good for future upgrade. DDR2/DDR3 compatible, also good for future upgrade. This board can last for few years and ready for upgrade anytime in upcoming year.

Cons: only two Ram slot. Two for DDR2 and two for DDR3 but I order 2 pcs of 2GB ram total 4GB on board. it is OK. But if some people had the 4x1 GB ram, they need to buy the a set of new RAM again. No IEE firewire port.

Other Thoughts: Good enough to build for Q6600 4GB Ram 500GB HD Nvidia 8600GTS 512mb config. Hey it is better and cheaper than the dell XPS 420 base system. I paid $ 997 and dell cost $ 999.
But my system is faster and ready for future 45nm technology. I beat dell !

5 out of 5 eggsworks fine

Pros: booted up on first try, very good onboard sound, spacious to work with, overclocking made to be very simple. good included instructions make building quite clear, msi's site is very helpful.

Cons: seems like it needs one more riser on the right side, included utilities hung up a bit.

Other Thoughts: this is my first system build and msi has made it easy. I understand the other review that is frustrated by the oversimplified d.o.t., but for someone like me it's idiot proof.

3 out of 5 eggsRead Me Before Buying

Pros: Fast,
Upgradeable,
Cheap

Cons: Bios,
IDE Controller

Other Thoughts: What really got me about this mobo is that it DOES support 800mhz FSB though it is not posted on the specs on neweggs website. I originally had purchased an open box, it would turn on then shut off after it posted. After an RMA and purchasing the new version in box, I had the same problem. Though bios 1.4 was installed on the mobo and since 1.3 my cpu was supposed to be supported it wasn't! luckily I was able to borrow my brothers cpu for testing purposes. I put his newer cpu in and it started fine. I was able to update my bios, put in my cpu and it has worked fine since. My advice is if you are buying this for the backwards compatibility for your cpu be weary when buying it may not work! Also you will need a sata drive to install your OS due to the ide controllers limitations.

3 out of 5 eggsProblems

Pros: It works.

Cons: An older IDE drive that I've got is forced to run in PIO mode (extremely slow) for now, instead of UDMA -- some place the blame on the Intel chipset dropping support for IDE hard drives, presumably forcing MSI to use this funny little Marvell IDE controller.

Long story short, I'll have to buy a new SATA hard drive because of this motherboard, when I shouldn't have to.

Other Thoughts: If you don't have any IDE hard drives, I guess the con is a nonissue. I don't overclock, so I can't comment on that.

4 out of 5 eggsworks well. but the bios blows

Pros: it's got lots of ability for gaming and overclocking, and it supports a lot of great hardware. it worked straight out of the box. had no trouble with it there.

Cons: the bios is terrible. even though you are allowed to overclock inside of the bios, it doesn't allow you to alter anything specific. for instance, it has an option where you can set a percentage for overclocking. for example, setting it to 15% overclock. it will adjust everything accordingly. but all the voltage options for the CPU and memory are grayed out and you can't touch them.

Other Thoughts: and the bios update was absolutely terrible. i downloaded it and flashed, and restarted, and it told me i had a bad checksum, and i had to reload the old values instead to make it work. ended up taking the battery out, and flashing it back to the old bios. and tech support is tough to get. you have to fill out a form on the website that's a mile long and asks for so much detail that the average user doesn't know. i consider my technical understanding somewhat high, but some of the things they asked for i had no idea where to find. it was ridiculous.

but the board still earned a 4 for the options it offered, and for how well it has been working now that i have it stable.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat board

Pros: This motherboard worked out of the box, was compatible with all my components, easy to use BIOS.

Can't say much on overclocking but i don't plan on doing that for a while.

Cons: Only 1 IDE slot, 2 RAM slots.. But removing them help keeps the price down.

Other Thoughts: 100% satisfied, i will recommend it to others.

5 out of 5 eggsMost Cost Effective P35 oc'er

Pros: Great Bios features, worked out of box, using Pentium D 920 at 290x14.

Cons: none, NB heatsink is not that great so I do recomend being carefull with NB voltage

Other Thoughts: Basically if you want something that is cost effective and going to be compatible with Quad Core 45nm then this is your baby. MEMORY DOESN'T BLOCK BIG VIDEO CARDS...huge plus
