4 out of 5 eggsGreat Price Great Board Minor Problem

Pros: great price and despite the cons i am happy with the board. after resolving the 2 problems i had the system is running stable and has no problem with anything i've thrown at it so far. blows my old system out of the water and runs so much quieter and cooler.

Cons: when setting up a new system you always come across problems. i had to flash bios, the computer was crashing every time i opened and closed my sata dvd drive. in addition the battery on the MB had to be replaced.

5 out of 5 eggs"budget" gamer board indeed.

Pros: Good overclocker if you have decent cooling. Onboard sound is good quality. Red boards are just sexy. Layout makes sense for the most part, the 90degree IDE port is a plus. Manual is rather detailed, and covers pretty much everything. BIOS is above average, bordering on excellent.

Cons: Lemme explain good cooling for any potential OC'ers. Case airflow is everything, a single 80mm fan is just unhealthy no matter what board you use. The only reason these boards fail when running a 125w proc is because of the heat that builds up in the MOSFETs. Check the V2 and you'll see a big red heatsink next to the socket. THATS IT! For people that own one already, get some ramsinks and slap em on those, leave your I/O panel off, and you shouldn't have problems.

Other Thoughts: I also opted to add a small fan to the SB, but it's probably not necessary at all. Bigger videocards will block 1-2 of your SATA ports, but there's not many ways to get around that on any board. This board is worth every penny and the x8/x8 PCIe isn't gonna slow down ANY card on the market. Enjoy!

1 out of 5 eggsGet what you pay for.

Pros: Looks nice. Price.

Cons: cheap chips fried shortly after getting up and running. Everything was fine as always until I started bench marking the system. Ran 3D Mark 06 once, was fine, ok score of 12+k, went for a second run after closing some back ground trash, ran it again, system restarted on the CPU test. Got back and running, Ran it again, mobo basically burst into flames LoL. I would chalk it up to manufacturer defect.

Other Thoughts: Throw down the little extra money and get the mobo from Asus or Gigabyte in the 134$ range, You'll be happy you did.

3 out of 5 eggsMSI

Pros: Well laid out board. Offers room for system growth (or did).

Cons: Announcement went out on this after I bought it reducing its CPU support, removing 125W processors.

Other Thoughts: It would have been perfect for me if not for the 125W issue. I still plan to use it to its potential.

5 out of 5 eggsNot bad

Pros: Great motherboard handles processor with no issues, also comes with great overclocking features.

Cons: Usb ports a little looses but no biggies.

Other Thoughts: Would be nice if it came with a bios backup, but you can get them from MSI's website with no problem.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty good

Pros: Its a solid board, nice layout, and crossfire ready. Good mobo if you dont have any need for 125W cpus, or if you dont want to overclock.

Cons: Is'ny compatible with 125W phenoms, and isnt much of an overclocker. Since this board cant support 125W of thermal power, dont expect much on overclocking cpus' 80W or higher. A cpu at about 89W can go up to about 100W when overclocked and that seems to be the limit for this board.

Other Thoughts: I really dont recommend this board if your looking for a board for overcloking. If you dont plan on overclocking and buy it, if you want a 125W cpu buy the Version 2.0 of this board.
My rig: AMD 5200 (89W) 2GB G.Skill DDR2 800, MSI 3850 256mb, Corsair VX550W. I tried overclocked my 5200 from 2.6GHz to 2.8GHz (x13 X 216) i then tried an FSB of 224 and it just couldnt handle it and wouldnt boot. I also tried loweing the HT Multiplier to 9X and my PC wouldnt even turn on and i got no signal.

4 out of 5 eggsGood but buggy

Pros: Once buggs were worked out it's stable and simply flies with vista x64 installed. My old 7800gtx video card runs about 25% faster in this han my old 4200 x2 rig. Not sure if that due to pci express 2.0 or just a fster cpu but i like it.

Cons: Bugs. The onboard raid can't be auto detected by vista setup so i had to load the drivers during setup and the folders were structured weird and the path given in the manual was wrong, thought close enough i could find the driver. The utilities on the provided cd caused my computer to start bluescreening and acting weird so i reinstalled the secong time only installed the normal drivers and non of the utilities runs solid as a rock now though.

Other Thoughts: No firewire though the boad has obvious spots where the firewire chip, and ports go. I personally hat getting a board that obviously could have a feature but it's left off for some reason. But that's just my pet peiv not sure if that bugs everyone.

2 out of 5 eggsRAID still not working

Pros: Really likes the features but RAID not working is a deal breaker.

Cons: I got a new replacement because the first one won't completely boot after the bios update. But no lock with new replacement, the RAID features still not working. I will not update the BIOS anymore since it will just make things worse unless they release a new one (not the 2008/05/02). I will just file a new RMA and this time for refund. I already send email to ECS support regarding this matter but I haven't received any reply yet.

Other Thoughts: I'm currently have 2 500 gig hard drive that contains all my important files and configured in Mirror mode so RAID features is very important on my system.

2 out of 5 eggsK2A2 Platinum

Pros: Lots of Features out of the box. Lots of fan junctions on the board.

Cons: Where does one start. Board mounted as MSI K9A2 directions instructed but upon initiating boot up/bios sequence, board would not recognize any sata 3.0 HDs nor any of the several ATA100 HDs. All cable connections were checked and rechecked. Board directions called for bios change such that DVD/CD was first bootable device. Made that change only and exited bios to load the OS. Made call to MSI tech support. Tech used shot gun approach and had me reset bios by disconnecting power, removing jumpter, moving jumper, waiting and returning the jumper to original settings. Board would no longer boot at all.

Other Thoughts: Am not a novice but have used another brand of mother board in the past. Guess it pays no not cut corners on cost and just spend the money. New Egg RMA process took less time to comnplete than MSI tech took to tell me where to place the bios reset jumper
