5 out of 5 eggsGot 2, love 'em

Pros: Great overclocking features, stable platform. I've always like MSI mobos, and this just reinforces that.

Got my Brother's E6420 from 2.13 all the way up to 2.8GHz, probably can go higher but need better than stock heatsink...

On a Zalman 9500, got my E7300 up to 3.6, totally stable.

Cons: Only 1 rebate per person/household!

Other Thoughts: Great Board for the price

4 out of 5 eggsGood board for the money

Pros: This is a basic motherboard, you get what you pay for. If you want more features such as sli, firewire etc you will need to buy a more expensive board. If you don't need those things this board is good. I am running a Intel core 2 E6300 overclocked from 1.86 ghz to 2.8 ghz, Evercool Buffalo cpu cooler,4 gb Kingston hyper x ram, Gtx 260 video card and a WD raptor hard drive, and two 120mm case fans. This set up scores a 5.5 on cpu (stock was 4.9) and 5.9 on everything else in Vista and a score of 1297.6 in Passmark ( stock was 959.3) with a max temp of 47.6 under full load. I may try to get the full 3.2 ghz out of this chip later this week. If you overclock just make sure you have a good cpu and case cooler

Cons: Bios could have more selectable choices. The manual could be more discriptive of what the settings do and it could have better overclocking instructions.

4 out of 5 eggsCMOS reset problem solved

Pros: Supports the latest socket 775 processors. Has an LPT port for legacy printers with no Vista/Win 7 drivers which works with Virtual PC 2007. I had to turn off hardware virtualization to get the printer to work in a virtual XP machine. Add-in cards and parallel USB adapters don't work in the virtual machine.

Cons: Startup problems with DDR2 800 RAM. RAM extraction levers bump into video card. No firewire. Only 6 expansion slots, would like to see seven. BIOS was 1.2 but latest is 1.9 from 2 months ago.

Other Thoughts: A number of people complained about having to reset the CMOS after powering down. I had the same symptom. With the 1.2 BIOS, the machine continually power cycled. With the 1.9 BIOS, the machine just hung and never started to POST. What cured it for me was going into the BIOS under the Cell Menu, then setting the FSB/DRAM ratio to match the CPU and memory. I have an E8500 CPU (1333 FSB) with DDR2 800 which is the 1:1.20 setting. When I went from 4GB to 8GB of RAM, the BIOS was misreading the SPD and setting TRAS too short by 1 clock cycle and the machine took a blue screen crash shortly after bootup. I manually set it to the correct value and the machine is stable now. I am not overclocking because heat generation is an issue for me, especially during the summer months.

4 out of 5 eggsGood

Pros: Everything is well labeled. The drivers installed on both Vista32 and Vista64.

Upgrading the BIOS is smooth.

Cons: The memory slots are close to the PCI-E slot. This makes it a little tough to insert and remove memory.

It doesn't include an MSI sticker for the case.

5 out of 5 eggsHiccups with NVidia GeForce 9800GT

Pros: Works for everything I need it for.

Cons: No firewire
Only 1 PCI-Ex16 slot

My main problem, the BIOS was clashing with the drivers for my GeForce 9800GT. Before installing the drivers, everything ran great aside from just the basic VGA drivers being used. After installing the 9800GT drivers, the Windows loading bar would come up, then the screen would go blank. A BIOS update with the included MSI Live Update fixed it.

Other Thoughts: Not bad at all for the price, just be sure to use your MSI tools to update everything you can. I won't take off an egg for this, it's something I overlooked doing as soon as I had internet access. It was my fault.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Cheap for what you get, has some nice options.

Cons: Shoddy memory support. Mine has weird power issues. Could use fire wire.

Other Thoughts: I would avoid this motherboard. Its bios has issues with memory support and soon after I got it my board started having problems. After trying to RMAing it and that failing to solve all the issues I just wound up biting the bullet and buying a different board.
