Insanity

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: I really wanted this board because of the features.
Cons: The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting different results - Einstein. So like an idiot I got another one thinking that things would be different this time. The board would not POST either. I sent it to MSI as a warranty repair and it took MSI about 2 weeks to turn the board around. I carefully installed it again and it won't POST. The sad thing is that MSI didn't even put any documentation in with the repair to indicate what was fixed or what they found. I have a sneaking suspicion that they just sent the board back. If it is the same board that tested good, that would have been useful information to look for some other problem. One egg for the disappointment and aggravation.
Other Thoughts: I'm sure that this model will work, as there are a few folks out there that have gotten theirs to work. A good product is not just one that works well out of the box. The real test of a company's commitment to quality is how they handle the problems. If a company puts all of its money into an excellent product but none into support, the odd item that fails will result in 100% customer dissatisfaction for that part. If they put the money and resources into proper customer support, those customers that they would have lost because of a defective part would still be satisfied customers after the repair.

Things break or come DOA. That's a fact of life. Imagine if there was no Newegg to act as a buffer between these companies and us consumers? No more MSI motherboards for me. I can't take the chance that the board will fail or come DOA. I don't trust MSI anymore to resolve any problems. Just a little info would have been the difference. How sad.

Picky

Tech Level Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: Lots of features, overclock options and USB connections. 6 SATA if you use RAID. Otherwise only 4. PCIx 2.0 slot. Good on board graphics. Used a 6000+ with 4g of GSkill PC800 memory with the 4-4-4-12 timings and a 9800GT graphics card. Still running XP Pro.
Cons: Picky about ram. Like Noah's review strange random messages about overclock errors when your not overclocking (among many others and blue screens) with BIOS v1.1. These were related to ram (see other thoughts). MSI Core center doesn't work. Can't get any main board or CPU temperatures. They are grayed out. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling but no effect. Using latest version. Board is too narrow. Unable to access three mounting screws so the edge of the board is flexible and bends when you plug things in near that edge. Also makes the SATA connectors get covered by a high end graphics card.
Other Thoughts: Gave up on it and got an RMA number. Ordered the ASUS M3N78Pro and 4g of Kingston PC800 with the 4-4-4-12 timings. Built the ASUS system using the GSkill memory. No issues with the ASUS and the GSkill memory. Then just for the heck of it I tried this MSI board as a possible update to my 10 year old system using the Kingston memory and a AMD 4850+ using on board graphics. All the issues went away. So I let the RMA expire. Been running it for about a year now. Never had a problem with stability again. Still have no main board or CPU temperature readings though. I noticed some reviews say they are using GSKill memory. Wouldn't work in my system.
