5 out of 5 eggsGreat motherboard, and cheap too!

Pros: This board has lots of great features that are listed, like the 4 SATA and 1 PATA (6 drives total), dual video output, etc etc. Unlike some of the boards that compete with this one, though, there are other great features:

- 2 extra USB headers, for e.g. front panel USB on your case
- 1 4-pin CPU fan connector and 2 3-pin case fan connectors, and the BIOS can automatically adjust speed based on temperature
- Has audio connector for front panel headphones/mic.
- Cheap!

Cons: Like many (all?) Intel-based boards, the heatsink fixture is demented. I was extremely afraid of cracking the board as I pushed the heatsink peg into the holes.

Other Thoughts: This board, being micro ATX, has only one PCIE x16 slot.

5 out of 5 eggsMSI mATX Mobo

Pros: Solid motherboard. Onboard video is enough for the normal user (non-gaming), supports HD-video. Components seemed solid, layout was not too bad. Booted the first time with an e7400 (see other). Unlike many newer motherboards, this one comes with a speaker, which is always nice because the window in which you have time to hit DEL to enter the bios is very short (splash screen pops up and goes away very quickly). Can just wait for the beep and hit DEL and it works.

Cons: BIOS leaves something to be desired. 2 memory slots (normal user only uses 2x 1/2gb anyways). Would have preferred more heatsinks for extra south/north bridge cooling.

Other Thoughts: First attempt to boot I did not post. Turns out this motherboard does not support the oldest LGA 775 P-Dual Core (mine was the 820 model). Was my mistake for assuming it would work since it was the same socket. Ordered a e7400 and was off to the races!

Build:
Antec 300 Case
Antec 430W Basiq PSU
This mobo
E7400 @ 3.0ghz
G.Skill DDR2-800 2x1GB

Solid motherboard, would buy MSI again!

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: A reliable motherboard with plenty of USB capability.

Cons: Only one slot for RAM per channel so max them out if your going for something high end. Also something that should not be an issue, but was for me, is there is a resistor on the side of the PCI-E connector so 4pin+4pin will need to be split. What are the odds I would get a power supply where they would be stuck together like an 8pin.

Other Thoughts: Firewire input is optional on this model i guess, but I suppose thats all it is to some like me, an option.

5 out of 5 eggsPretty Fast little board

Pros: GREAT layout, Board is good looking, well thought out placement of ...everything! Good heatsinks, dont get too hot... Good overclocking ability in BIOS..even fanspeed control available which is a plus...and the coolest splash screen! Support for my new wolfdale processor (e5200).

Cons: only 2 ram slots....thats about it.....

Other Thoughts: I hate intel heatsinks....have to bolt them on/use brackets and all kinds of junk...at least AMD allows for easier heatsink attachment...If your looking for a decent priced good performing motherboard, this is a great choice. I threw 2 GB of ballistix 1066 ram, and an HD 3850 on it and it is great for games and HD video. Lots O fun!

5 out of 5 eggsnice micro ATX MB

Pros: Added E5200 processor, Kingston PC-6400 RM, Windows XP home. Loaded MSI XP drivers and utilities. Working good so far. The onboard intel graphics are OK for average users but gamers might want to get a decent card.

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: Good MB for economy system.

5 out of 5 eggsAwsome board

Pros: This is one awesome board. Why? This was a replacement board for an asus board cause the ethernet died and it had all the features i needed without paying extra for a board that had features I didn't need. And the price was in my budget. Installation went smooth as silk. My biggest fear was getting it to recognize my hard drives and boot back into vista, which another asus board I got (not from newegg) would not do. Since it wouldn't recognize my hard drives I couldn't even do a new install. Then I got this board and after uninstalling service pack 1 for vista which my retail vista did not come with I put the vista disc in my dvd drive and shut down the computer. After installing board it booted right to windows and vista loaded all the necessary drivers. After the reboot I used the drivers utilities disc that came with the board and was on line in no time. And most awesome part is I did not lose any files or programs and Vista stayed activated. No complete install of OS or programs.

Cons: None as long as board doesn't fail in the next year.

Other Thoughts: Easily over clocked my Q6600 to 3.0 ghz on stock voltage with after market heatsink and fan. CPU runs mid 20's on idle and mid 40's under load. Together with my ATI 4850 GPU I easily scored a 5.9 in windows experience. I think after Windows 7 comes out I change over to 64 bit as I do alot of video editing.

4 out of 5 eggsNOTE - this is not G41M-FIDP

Pros: Great Intel G41 feature set - more to come soon later after I load Linux
(Ubuntu 8.10) on it. There is a s/pdif header that can be connected to an
external bracket (but, no bracket is supplied).

Cons: The included manual is for both the G41M-FIDP & G41M-FD.
The manual shows pictures of the FIDP.
The supplied backplate is for the FIDP.
Thus, some extra holes will be "open" on the FD model.
The manual talks about a header (optional) on the MB for 1394,
but the pins are not there on the FD model. This you cannot connect an
external bracket. Oh well, there are 2 PCI slots you can use.

Other Thoughts: This is the MSI G41M-FD, not the G41M-FIDP.
The later includes DisplayPort and a firewire 1394 port on the backplane.
NewEgg does not sell that model yet.
