1 out of 5 eggsMSI 880g-E45

Pros: It runs well at first.

Cons: I have replaced this board twice. It works well at first then bits the dust. Dvi port stopped working blue screen after running for a few hours. I would like a different type of board but I have had no luck getting a hold of anyone at msi.

Other Thoughts: Do not buy spend a little extra for quality

2 out of 5 eggsBuy, then bye bye

Pros: Worked well a the beginning. Was very stable.

Cons: It has now met it's maker. Or, it will when I ship it back. I give it 2 eggs because it was a reliable board. Many of the features it boasted weren't even remotely accurately described such as its overclockability. I couldn't even get it to overclock a black edition processor without blue screening. MSI may be going downhill, as I've heard. I may give them another chance but I am weary to say the least.

Other Thoughts: Was really excited about this board when I got it. It turned out to be run of the mill which was a bummer but at least it worked. now, not so much.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Warranty Support

Pros: Good features for the price.... not going into all the features, you can see for yourself. Performed well.

Cons: It died at 18 months. The 4-pin aux connector shorted, which apparently is a common problem on this board. It will appear like the PSU has died, but if you unplug the 4-pin aux, things kick back in and run.

Other Thoughts: I have to say, MSI really stepped up to the plate on the warranty. My RMA claim was processed by the next day, and then once UPS got around to delivering the board to them, they had a replacement board SHIPPED in under TWO HOURS from receiving my dead board.

1 out of 5 eggsSame problem as Others

Pros: It was good while it lasted.
Lots of features.

Cons: Failed after just over 1 year of use. Using the computer one day and it simply shut off and wouldn't turn back on.

I read several of the other reviews here about similar failures and tested what I saw in them, and it turns out I have the EXACT same issue as several other users:

With the 4-pin connector plugged in, the board refuses to power on - fans won't even spin.

Unplug the 4-pin connector, and it boots powers up. Obviously a fried circuit somewhere on the 4-pin connector.

Other Thoughts: Considering a number of other users have reported the exact same failure symptoms, this should probably be a known issue on this board.

It's just sad that I chose this board based on its supposed durability, and it barely passed 1 year before failing.

3 out of 5 eggsboo hiss

Pros: Nice features, good price.

Cons: No Optical out. And 7 months later one of the PCIe X1 slots dies. Its my media center and I need both. 1 for sound card with optical out and 1 for TV Tuner.

Other Thoughts: Was a very nice board while it lasted. Replacing it with another similar MSI board. I have have very good products from MSI and am rather shocked this died so soon.

1 out of 5 eggsCommon MSI, you can do better

Pros: USB 3.0, 16 gb RAM, ez OC, etc. See specs.

Cons: Quality Control. Within the past 9 months I have gone through three boards and the problem is still not fixed. The longest one lasted 6 months (1st RMA), followed by 2 months (original), followed by none (DOA 2nd RMA). I have bought plenty of boards from MSI in the past, but this one takes the cake. Symptoms of failures include: 1st: sudden high pitched whine followed by a loud pop (bad cap.), 2nd: degradation of post time, followed by no post at all for a while (inspection revealed bad CMOS with corrosion on side), 3rd: fans spin but no post. I've been fortunate that the mobo hasn't taken out my parts yet (have 2nd system, Biostar, that I test everything with), but this is starting to become a game of Russian Roulette. MSI, you have one shot left before I make the switch back to Gigabyte/Asus. Heck, I've had better luck with Biostar at this point...

Other Thoughts: MSI's RMA system is fairly quick (2 week turn around time from date of shipped), but that costs both time and money on my part. Especially when you build systems for clients...

1 out of 5 eggsCustomer Service

Pros: It does not have any without good customer service.

Cons: MSI needs to work on their customer service! Two weeks plus shipping time just to repair/replace a motherboard is absurd.
No one answers the supplied phone number and you can forget about getting an answer if you email them. I have bought my last MSI product not that they care.

5 out of 5 eggsOverall Good Performance

Pros: So far, I have been extremely satisfied with this motherboard. The overclocking profiles are very nice and easy to use. I enjoy having 4 slots for ram on a Micro ATX board. Usb 3.0 is a dream.

Cons: I may just be being picky, but it is very hard to manage the cabling between the 24-pin atx cord, the IDE ribbon cable, and the floppy cable, all of which are very close together and require some major shifting of wires. Again, just a minute detail.

1 out of 5 eggsFailure

Pros: It worked well for a good while. Never tried playing with the OC switches or whatnot, so I can't comment on those...
Also, tech support was somewhat knowledgeable. Pretty rational, too.

Cons: Where do I start... Well, this is the third motherboard I've bought. I'd never had any failures, and thought that those were the stuff of lore. Apparently not. Also, when they fail, I guess they fail spectacularly. I went home one night, got back in the morning, and the computer wouldn't turn on. Every other computer was fine... how odd! So then, I take it home, test it out a bit. Seems like the motherboard is sapping all of the power from the power supply. Like a previous reviewer, I had the issue where nothing would turn on when the 4pin cpu connector was in... sort of. With the original 620W PSU that was in there, nothing happened (however, I've since realized that one is now dead), except when I took the 4pin connector out, when the fans would turn on. I tried a 350W PSU, same story. Then, I tried a 550W. Without the 4pin, the fans lit up and whatnot. However, when I put the 4pin in there...well, the fan LEDs lit up...weakly... but none of them started (continued...)

Other Thoughts: (from above) spinning. And then it smelled like something was burning. So, I've come to the conclusion (as did the MSI rep I spoke to) that the motherboard is drawing in an insane amount of power. I assume the firmware let this happen due to the "overclocking" potential built in. But perhaps not. But, end of the story, my $100 motherboard has ended up ruining my power supply ($100) and graphics card ($200). Haven't even tested the proc yet, but, seeing as it's the 4pin connector that's drawing power like mad, I'm gonna guess that the CPU is dead too ($200). So, essentially, this motherboard has cost me $600? Thanks, MSI...

Oh, and one of the reps I spoke to agreed with me in the following: If you don't want your house to burn down, you shouldn't buy MSI. (Or rather, after making the analogy to "if you don't want to get fat, don't eat McDonalds," he agreed that the logic extended to the above).

So, please, do yourself a favor and do NOT buy MSI components.
