4 out of 5 eggsGreat MB & Features but NO SLI

Pros: Great motherboard with lots of features and quality components. Had almost everything I was looking for: USB 3.0, 6GB SATA, dual graphic card support except....

Cons: Only supports CrossFire and does NOT support SLI. Box does not even come with any cables to connect two cards. Should have done more research before purchasing but that's my bad. Will probably pay the extra $ for the MSI P55-GD85.

Pros: This board does support sli although it is not clearly spelled out in the manual or on line. So far, great board no problems on install. live update programme works fine. easy to flash bios with the utility

Cons: running two video cards is a bit tight. 2nd card covers the computer case on/off jumpers. doesn't com with an sli jumper. had to buy a flexible sli bridge from evga.

Other Thoughts: running 2 gtx 285 i7 860 able to shredd all games at this point.

3 out of 5 eggsToo early to tell. May not have SLI support.

Pros: Seems high quality. Front audio hookup is in the right place and not under a card slot like some others.

Cons: No evidence in manual, box, or website of SLI support. What gives? NewEgg's features clearly shows SLI support.

Sideways SATA ports are the worst idea in motherboard design yet.

Other Thoughts: Need clarification on SLI.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Board

Pros: Easy setup and installation, the bios updating software that you can use within Windows is awesome. No more booting into bios and searching a jump drive for the file, the software does it for you! Sata 6 for future use, and USB 3 both great for expanding later if your not on that bandwagon yet. The CPU socket is nicely placed so that your Ram even with large heat sinks is not going to touch or be too difficult to install.

OC Genie is awesomely easy, if you are new to overclocking you will love this feature. The MSI Control center is a nice piece of software for entry level overclockers as well.

As most will tell you Ram tends to run at 1333 out of the box on this board and I have yet to reconfigure mine to 1600 but this board should handle it easily.

Cons: Not a really a con, but the Sata ports facing sideways just isn't to my liking. Again not a huge point here but the accessories with the Motherboard were next to none, books, DvD driver disc and 2 red sata cables (black cables would have been more fitting to this boards theme) with a sata power adapter cable.

Something that is confusing about this board and I will be emailing MSI about is that Newegg as well as other sites list this board as SLI/Xfire compatable but in the detailed specs and on MSI website it's listed as Xfire only. Considering I am going to be purchasing a new video card or pair of them it would be nice to know exactly what this board can really support.

Other Thoughts: Overall this is a very nice board for the price, it is my first MSI as I was an Asus user for a long time (10+ years) but I got tired of having to deal with "unqualified ram" issues on their boards.

My Build:
i5 760 Quad 2.8Ghz with Arctic Freezer Pro V2
8 Gigs A-Data DDR3 1600 AX3U1600GB2G9-2G
Corsair 850TX PSU
2x Samsung DvDRW
250Gig WD Os drive
250Gig Seagate Data drive
G110 Keyboard
Razer Death Addar 3500dpi Mouse
2x Samsung 2333SW 23" Monitor's

5 out of 5 eggsA-Mazing Board

Pros: There is too much to say about this amazing board.
- Onboard USB 3.0
- Sata 6Gb with/ Marvell controller & RAID 0,1 for Sata 6gb
- 3 internal USB connectors
- 4 System Fan connectors
- 8 Phase Flashing LED to show how much power is being drawn
- 2 Pci-E x16 Lanes Suitable for Crossfire
- Rear Clear CMOS switch
- OC Genie
- 2 PS/2 Ports (useful for those old keyboards like mine)

Cons: Absolutely none with the board itself , see other thoughts for driver & other issues.

Other Thoughts: From a clean install Windows installs the wrong drivers for Sata 6gb, it should show up as something like
acs-6xxxx. These are the wrong drivers for the sata 6gb!
You can download latest drivers here from MSI:

Also IDE drivers were non functional from clean install, and USB drivers werent even installed. IDE drivers can be obtained from website as well. USB 3.0 Drivers on driver disc were out of date. Latest drivers come from Renesas Electronics and can also be found on above website. I would recommend correcting the drivers that need to be troubleshooted straight from website. All other drivers install from disc and update from site afterwards.

Newegg states with a crossfire setup, the pcie lanes are x8 & x8. Not sure if this is true or not because the manual says 2 pcie x16 lanes. (I'd go with manufacturer)

All in all this is an amazing high quality board so dont hesitate to get it!

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent 2nd-gen P55 board

Pros: This is a new P55 board with USB3 + SATA 6Gbs behind a PLX PCIe bridge to help fully utilize the limited PCIe lanes available on the P55 chipset.

It has one of the best layouts I've seen. Caps, ferrite chokes, & other components are all low profile and don't block airflow around your CPU, RAM, or cards. Even the RAM slots are spaced about 2mm further apart then on my older AMD socket 939 boards. People who get RAM with big heatspreaders should appreciate that extra room. I ran memtest86+ 4 for a few passes against 8GB of RAM, and the whole board stayed cool-- no hotspots.

There are 4 fan headers which are well located-- easy to get to, not blocked underneath your video card. It's also got four touchpads on the bottom of the board for power, reset, & OC up and down-- so you can set up and test the board on a desk without having to attach the front-panel headers to use the power button on your case. Handy if your new case is shipped separately and hasn't arrived yet. :-)

Cons: It has two PCI slots, but one is pretty likely to be blocked by the primary video card.

No PCIe 4x slot, but you can use the second 16x slot for a 4-port NIC or whatever, since one probably shouldn't be doing SLI/CrossFire on a P55 anyway-- get a X58 / socket 1366 system instead. I won't take an egg away for that.

When I enabled XMP memory profile, it failed to post-- tried rebooting itself three times and then BIOS went back to failsafe. Had to manually adjust the timings to 8-8-8-24 to use XMP @ DDR3-1600 or PC-12800. Since it figured things out without me needing to hit the clear CMOS button, I won't take an egg off here either.

Other Thoughts: Running Win 7 Pro, system spec:
CPU: i5-760 2.8GHz socket 1156, turbo boost takes it up to 4GHz
GPU: eVGA 275GTX (1792MB)
RAM: 8GB (4 x 2GB) GSkill ECO F3-12800CL7D
[ This *should* run at 7-8-7-24 XMP timings, but I'm only stable using 8-8-8-24 @ DDR3-1600 speeds... ]
Disk: 2xWDC1002FAEX 1TB/SATA6 in RAID-1 mirror on the Marvell SE9128
PSU: Corsair TX850W
Case: Lian Li PC-E8L
Audio: Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi (MB comes with onboard Realtek 889)
