5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Great motherboard with what seems like vast overclocking potential; most of which will go unused.
Overclocked 4690K to 4.2GHz; stock voltage settings with CM Hyper 212 EVO without issue.
Overclocked 4GBx2 GSkill Sniper 1866MHz RAM to 2133MHz using stock voltages without issue.
Updated BIOS via USB stick (not through Windows) without issue.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I am only utilizing two RAM slots, so I cannot attest to CPU cooler clearance beyond that.
So far, this board has been nothing but solid.

5 out of 5 eggsBeastly Board :)

Pros: My 5-6 year old gigatbye 770t board was starting to die out on me. So i decided its time to upgrade, and paired a intel 4790k with this board.
Everything works seamlessly with this board. The Bios has a very attractive and informative interface. Construction design and quality is great on this board. This board looks great with my Msi 670gtx power edition, and corsair carbide air 540 artic white case.

Cons: Wish the M power words would glow yellow and the yellow M chipset logo too :)

Other Thoughts: Newegg and MSI fail to metion this board comes with these little awesome front panel connectors called M connectors. You basically connect all those tiny front panel connectors onto a labeled little block, then you easily plug it into the front panel connector on your motherboard. Save time and effort looking into the manual where things need to be connected. Also the debug LED show your Cpu's temperature in real time accurately.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid, fast, and full featured

Pros: High quality construction. Fast, easy to navigate BIOS. Extremely stable under standard settings and light overclocking (I haven't tried any really crazy OC yet.)

I've installed Z series motherboards from ASUS and Gigabyte as well. I find this card to be of higher production value and the BIOS is a step up from the ROG. Granted my last ROG was a Z77, so they might have improved.

Cons: I'm docking MSI an egg because their marketing at the company website indicates that the board comes with an M.2 to sata express converter.

"SATA Express introduces a new solution in high speed storage through PCI Express, providing more bandwidth for the latest generation SSDs. We offer flexible solutions with an M.2 to SATA Express converter for more convenience."

My box did not come with one. I can't even find where they sell it separately.

My SSDs are fast, but I wanted to use the converter to get to 10 gb/s instead of 6.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA Audio / Not Military Grade Components

Pros: Bios / Drivers are easily upgradable. There were a few things that the engineers got right on this board but the one or two bad layout decisions sort of makes the good decisions pointless.

Cons: This is probably the 2nd worst motherboard I've had since I've started building computers 15 years ago.

Audio was DOA. Not detected by anybody.

Unfortunately their return policy requires you to be without a computer for the 2-6 weeks they anticipate it takes them to round trip a return. (You send us the product and wait 2 weeks and then we'll send you a return package 2 weeks later). Unfortunately Newegg's return policy is not that much better either.

The UEFI Bios resets all settings to manufacture default about 80% of the time on reboots/startups.

The location and choice of the PCI Express slots make utilizing a two video card setup along with any othe peripheral devices a pain. The sound card pretty that I had to put in because Audio was DOA is directly underneath a video card. Almost all mid sized to upper range video cards now take 2 slots.

There appear to be other hardware issues with the motherboard and I am expecting this motherboard to be replaced very quickly.

Other Thoughts: For being advertised as having "Military" grade quality components I expected far better quality control and at a bare minimum a system that had all components functional and had normal stability (being able to run for several months without a problem).

5 out of 5 eggsTons of power, very stable. OC Dream.

Pros: Nothing bad to say about this board. Have my 4790k runnning at 5.0ghz currently, rock solid voltage supplied. Also ran a 780ti KINGPIN at max voltage from PEX(PCI-E) and it was rock solid. If you know what you're doing, this board will back some heavy overclocks. Worth every penny compared to other boards in this price range.

Cons: Nothing

Other Thoughts: If you want power.. buy it. I've installed 5 different Z97 boards now and this one gives the most stable voltages.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat board false info

Pros: Oc is a breeze, options are amazing. Solid board as far as i can see at the moment, a year from now tells all. I compare everything i build to the one that still runs my asus p5n going over 6 years...

Cons: the info on the board when i bought it said it came with a wifi/wimax adapter this was not shipped or mentioned anywhere and trust me i looked. That feature is the reason i chose msi over an asus board, i have been with asus for a while and like them, but wanted the wifi/wimax feature enough to try msi... it was mentioned on new egg at time of sale, and on msi website, a few days after i bought the board, both places no longer mention this feature would have been nice had i waited

Other Thoughts: this board seems great don't get me wrong if it keeps going i'll be pleased enough, but i wanted the wifi/wimax i did not want a usb adapter and the pci-e slots don't work well with the sli trying to fit them in... I can only imagine it becoming an air flow night mare. I haven't decided if i will buy msi again... hard to say because you might expect to get one feature listed and it not be there and removed... for that reason i will hesitate to buy from msi again

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

It's an optional feature and the model that has the WLAN module is Z97 Mpower Max AC, see below link.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome board!!

Pros: Very good board, full of new features, haven't tested the overclocking ability yet because I am waiting for 4790k.

Cons: Look at other thoughts.

Other Thoughts: Took me a while to get it working because the I had the ram sticks in the wrong slots. Apparently, you have to put the ram sticks closer to the cpu for some reason.

1 out of 5 eggsBad luck? Or Bad Quality?

Pros: Looks cool and has a lot of the same features as other boards for less.

Cons: I'm not sure if this board has some build flaws or if I just got really unlucky... I bought this board with an EVGA G2 1000 watt power supply. The motherboard arrived with some slightly bent pins in the CPU socket, but it looked like they would all still contact the CPU, so I went ahead and put it all together. To my dismay, the on-board POST code reader would run up to 55 and then loop over and over again. I was using a known good i7-4770K and Corsair Dominator RAM, so I returned it for a replacement from Newegg. While I was waiting for the replacement, I ordered an MSI H81M-E35 motherboard to use, and that board worked out of the box without issues.

So a few days ago I got the replacement and it looked good. No bent pins or defects that I could see. I installed it and it worked for most of the day, but then it started doing some hard-resets and then stating that the overclocking failed, which suprised me since I never turned on the overclocking functions. There are three ATX power connections and one PCI Express on the motherboard, and I had all four connected to the brand new power supply I ordered with the first board. I decided to run Prime95 to put the system under some load and after only a couple of seconds the board hard-reset. This time however, it started doing the same thing the original board did and would not get past POST code 55. I then took everything apart and reinstalled the H81M-E35 motherboard I had got previously with all of the same parts that had been on the Z97 MPOWER board. Everything worked normally and I ran Prime95 all day without any issues, so I know all of my parts are good.

Other Thoughts: So due to this, I gave up and am sending the replacement back for a full refund instead. I hope I was just unlucky and no one else has these problems. In the mean time, I'm just going to go back to ASUS and order a Maximus VII Hero.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issues that you are having with this product.
Bent pins is an user-induced damage, see below for the proper installation procedures (shown in the user's manual as well).

Proper CPU installation procedures:
1. Open metal cage first by releasing lever without removing the plastic cover (Warning! Do not remove the plastic cap yet).
2. Insert processor into the socket.
3. Close the metal cage and secure the lever, plastic cover will come off automatically.

In order to replace this motherboard, we will charge you a $45 to process a replacement.
Please feel free to get in touch with us to proceed with this OOW RMA request by calling our tech support team directly at 626.271.1004 for assistance during regular business hours from M to F, 9am to 6pm Pacific Time, or you can email us at, thank you.

Best Regards,
