4 out of 5 eggsWorks great with a few hang-ups

Pros: Compatible with almost anything.
Decent size.

Cons: Had a uCode error with Core2Duo processor. Updating the BIOS fixed this problem.

Other Thoughts: The size is prefect; all the inputs are in good spots. After the BIOS update, have not had a problem since.

2 out of 5 eggsbetter hope it work

Pros: when it works it does well - be prepared to upgrade the bios to accept even Core 2 Duo

Cons: This is my third P5B motherboard and it still doesn't work. I've RMAed with ASUS and get old repaired (?) boards back. The second one worked for a month. Since I'm paying the shipping and the phone bills (no 800 #), I'm going to try another brand.

Other Thoughts: Anyone can have a bad board once in a while. It's how they solve the problem that makes the company. ASUS fails miserably.

I wish I'd not held the first board so long before building the computer. Newegg has to be better to deal with.

5 out of 5 eggsAWESOME!!!!

Pros: Overclocking !!!! this thing is awesome. I overclocked my E6550 C2D from 2.3ghz to 2.8ghz without effort at stock voltages. FSB from 1333mhz to 1600mhz without issue too. For the price.... well worth it. Also supports 1333 FSB processors. 3DMark06 CPU score over 2500, which is the same score my son got on his Quad Core. hehe

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Need to update to one of the newest BIOS's for this kind of result. I have BIOS version 2001 on it now. Using Patriot RAM PC6400 (PEP22G6400EL), and Sapphire Radeon X1950GT

2 out of 5 eggsIt can suck

Pros: Kinda cheap.

Cons: The original BIOS doesn't support many CPUs and you may have to borrow an older CPU from someone JUST to reflash the BIOS.
Even the latest BIOS doesn't support some of the basic overclocking functions for my Core 2 Duo e7200 cpu (like changing the Vcore).
S3 suspend still leaves all the case fans turned on.

Other Thoughts: Overall, this is a bad board. One of the main points of buying an ASUS is its _supposed_ ability to overclock. I think many people have issues with this board and missing overclock options, even with the newest (2001) BIOS. The fact that the fans spin when doing an S3 suspend is really annoying too. You need to REALLY research to see if there are issues between your CPU and this board before you buy.

2 out of 5 eggsVery picky memory

Pros: 4 internal sata, comes with sata cables, the on board thing which name is lost to me....basically this little pass through for the hdd light, power switch and front led buttons, you can put them from the case onto this big jumper, which comes configured for the mobo, the bios is nice and looks easy to overclock when I do get to that....

Cons: lets begin, very very picky as to what will and will not work on it. check the asus website if you do decide to get this board, to make sure their small selection of memory is available. the board is also very flimsy, when installing components, it seems like it wants to break.

Other Thoughts: onboard audio is so-so. the memory and flimsiness is kind of a real pain. ok board if it suits you, just beware...

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect

Pros: Perfect, absolutely no problems. Switched up from a 478 socket machine to this, using a Q6600 processor. Worked fluidly.

Cons: None I have noticed

Other Thoughts: Possibly the best bang for your buck. Since the latest BIOS revision comes on this board, there are no installation problems.

2 out of 5 eggsPicky with memory, otherwise fine

Pros: Has a lot of options, came with 4 sata cables, and also included was a kind of pass through for your case cables, power button hdd light and such, made it easy to plug right in and avoided some mind numbing few minutes of most other motherboards

Cons: Very very very picky with memory. Check on the manufacturers website for exactly what you can use and in what quantities. Also, drivers are not in a format, nor could be extracted to run with nlite for a custom os disc.

Other Thoughts: If you are ok with its flaws, its an otherwise good motherboard. I just don't happen to be ok with its flaws

5 out of 5 eggsGood motherboard EXCEPT

Pros: Good features, great manufacture, lots of support online on multiple forums.

Cons: This motherboard WILL NOT SUPPORT brand new CPUs depending on the bios revision. I received a 503 bios revision on my P5B a rather old bios, and it wouldnt see my E8400. Everything powers, no beeps, no post, no video display. Swapped every component (psu, mem, vid, built on esd mat) nothing no post.

After some research the older bios wont post with new CPUS and I need an ancient 775 Procesor to get this motherboard to work. Im gonna RMA this motherboard and try to get one with a newer bios, unfortunately I dont know anyone with a 775 processor.

My only other option is to buy a older processor JUST to flash the bios. Kinda annoying, but it is what it is.

2 out of 5 eggsBios from %$# (almost)

Pros: The board hardware works quite well and is really stable once you get it set up right.

Cons: I could not get this past the bios out of the box. When I used the "set optimal defaults" option it tryed to overclock my memory. It didn't even have a ddr2 800 speed setting in the bios even after updating it. Also the legacy USB suport caused this board to hang at boot as well.

Other Thoughts: I had to manuely set the timing on my memory and adjust the FSB in order to get my memory to run at its rated speed. Also if at boot it hangs at "finding USB mass storage device" (or something like that) turn off the "Legacy UBS suport" in the USB options menue.

4 out of 5 eggsThe SATA RAID thing is true

Pros: If you want to build a system with dual-channel DDR2-800, an Intel CPU with an 800MHz or 1066MHz FSB, and the full complement of PCI slots, then this is the board for you.

Cons: It's true what they say about the SATA RAID - if you want to do it, one of your hard drives must be an external drive, and I doubt that Western Digital makes external Raptor drives. Or, if you were particularly clever, you could duct tape an internal hard drive to some other part of the computer chassis and route a SATA cable from the inside of the computer through the back to the external port. Or, if your brain was at least as functional as that of a gerbil, you could...

Other Thoughts: ...BUY A FREAKING SATA RAID CONTROLLER! Rosewill makes one for ten bucks! It's the RC-201 model. You plug the SATA drives into the controller, and the controller plugs into a PCI slot on your motherboard. Find and install the drivers. Presto. You're done. You now have a fully internal SATA RAID array. For ten dollars. Sure, those guys at Asus were probably on LSD or something when they designed this, but what did you think those PCI slots were for? Jeez.
