1 out of 5 eggsTwo Dead Boards and a Nightmare of ASUS RMA Support

Pros: I bought this MB about three months after it was released. This was my first ASUS purchase, and I wish it was my last. I bought it based on its feature set and the high praise that ASUS has received in the past.

The only pro I can say is that it was nice when it worked and had a very nice hardware/software feature set. The built in WiFi was also pretty nice. I did not use any of the OCing features on it though.

Cons: The first board was a DOA. I quickly exchanged it for a replacement. The second board worked fine for about a year. Then one day it died. I used it, left it on, no sleep mode, no HD shutoffs, etc. I had it set so that the monitors would turn off after 15 mins. I came back to the PC a few hours later and nothing would happen. The machine was on but no output. I power cycled the PC and just got a black screen. ASUS tech confirmed the board had died. ASUS RMA said 2 weeks for replacement. After 4 weeks they said they would give me a Striker Extreme since they were out of my board. 2 weeks later they sent me my old dead board back. RMA'd it 2 more times. 2 more times they sent me my same old dead board. 6 months of calls and getting a regional manager on the phone, I finally got the promised Striker Extreme. 6 months I had no computer. Had to borrow a laptop. Had I known ASUS RMA was going to be this bad, I would have just bought a board from a different manufacturer.

Other Thoughts: I wish I had never bought any ASUS products. When the first one arrived DOA that should have been my sign. What I regret most is not running out and buying a different MB once the games with ASUS RMA started happening. I should have just used a new MB from a different company and just sold the Striker Extreme when it finally came in.

I have used Striker Extreme and Striker II Extreme MBs also. I have been dissapointed with both of them as well.

Even the ASUS Royal Knight CPU cooler fan failed after just a year. ASUS RMA'd it after hours of phone calls. It was a near 30 day turn around on the RMA.

System Info:
ASUS P5N32-SLI Premium WiFi MB, 1.86 GHz Core 2 Duo E6300, ASUS Royal Knight cooler, Arctic Silver 5, 2 x 1GB OCZ RAM, 2 x WD 500GB RAID drives in mirror, EVGA GeForce 7900 GS 256MB, 2 x DVD-RW burners, 3.5" drive w/ memory card reader, Ultra mid-tower, Thermaltake 750W PS, 2 x 120mm Scythe low CFM/completely silent case fans (front/rear). Win XP Pro SP3.

1 out of 5 eggsRMA NIGHTMARES

Pros: 3 PCIE slots.. worked great out of the box (for 3 months).. nice layout..

Cons: stopped working after 3 months.. Would not post.. 2 board.. DOA.. would not post. (youd think that would be fixed) 3rd board.. worked for 1 day. turn it off. never to turn it on again. (on phone for my 4th RMA!! wow.. what a loss..)

Other Thoughts: should I spend another $25 to ship it back, and wait two weeks, or cut my losses before it takes out a vid card.. or something.. I hate this board.

4 out of 5 eggsSpeedy

Pros: Fast!
Good options.
Great cooling system.

Cons: The 590 chipset isn't as stable as I was hoping.
Pretty spendy.
After 3 months, BIOS chip stopped working. It was under warranty, though. Only had to pay for shipping.

Other Thoughts: I would buy this board again.

1 out of 5 eggsNightmares with this board

Pros: Nothing! Can't get it to work!

Cons: 4th board RMA'ed! ended up spending more and more money due to Asus rec. on faulty parts. First it was the CPU then they thought it was the rams. I'd ended up buying all these items and the problems is still here. I'm in IT field and build countless PCs - just this stupid board is giving problems. ASUS support sucks! It boots when it wants to. Crash for no reason. Beeps comes on when it wants to. Not worth my $200 something dollars!

Other Thoughts: From Pentium D 3.4ghz presley to Q6600, from Corsair 800 XMS pro to Dominator 1066, PSU from Enermax 550W to 650W Liberty, ATI X1900XT, SB Audigy 2 EX, Raptor drives, etc...

5 out of 5 eggsGood Product

Pros: I got this mobo about 6 months ago and have had absolutely no problems! Easy install, everything just "worked"... The Asus "AIBooster" desktop over clocking system is increasingly more stable than in the previous P15 mobo that I had. It wasn't even worth using (the bios was easier), but that isnt the case. Also, the WiFi compatibility is awesome. I sadly dont have the means to route a modem to my PC, but this WiFi is so much easier to live with than a Linksys. Very little hassle-- It does everything pretty much for you. I am also a sucker for shiny copper heatsynks... ;)

Cons: No problems.

Other Thoughts: Newegg pwns.

4 out of 5 eggsI like Asus so far

Pros: I like that it has dual GB Lan and also a WiFi port on it. That comes in handy if you have more than 1 or 2 computers in a house hold.Nice look and design to this board as well.

Cons: The sound card is junk! I'm really sick and tired of these generic sound cards coming on motherboards especially if you pay more than $100-$200. The sound in iTunes is TERRIBLE. Pops, hisses, all sorts of distortion and also on Windows Media Player. So now I have to spend more money on a good sound card

Other Thoughts: This is my first Asus board and so far it seems fine and dandy. TheSupreme Sound card is awful and also the location for it is too. The NZXT Lexa Blakline case uses a card lock dwon and that card being in that top slot makes it hard to use the lcok down.

2 out of 5 eggsDisapointed

Pros: ASUS Has a good name and rep! Specs look good too! Many features!

Cons: Unreliable! Failed right out of the box! Not even a post test! Replaced MOBO and CPU! I have used it for a week, loaded up system and several programs. Left it off for a week. Turned it on again and Failed again! Nothing not a post again! I would stay away from this MOBO and move up to a newer chipset! Have read about many others having exact same problems with this board!

Other Thoughts: I've been traveling quiet a bit the last couple of months and should have moved on it faster! One RMA from New Egg! Now I'm on my own to deal with ASUS! Havent enjoyed any of the benefits from having a fast system. This is the first INTEL machine I've built, I have had much better luck with all the AMD machines I've built! Think I'll go back. Hopefully ASUS will live up to their good name. This Board Sucks!

1 out of 5 eggsBuyer Beware

Pros: When it works, it is a delight! It seems to adapt to anything I can throw at it, although it took me months to discover it was very picky about the other hardware you ran it with.

Cons: I loaded this MoBo with the best parts to be had at the time. Corsair 1GB x 2 RAM, BFG OC 512MB video card, water cooling, etc. I called Asus about the RAM prior to my purchase, as they had no Corsair RAM on the QVL. They said the sticks (NE Part#N82E16820145589) would work with no problem....that was my first mistake. These chips cause the bridges to go supernova hot, destroying the mobo and the cpu. I thought my water cooling system was faulty, so I replaced it and got the same results. I ratcheted the mem speed down to 667 and it worked most of the time (on my second board by now). I loaded Vista on it and video card crashed repeatedly. I ran the video card on two other boxes and had no problem. Long story shorter...this board is a disaster waiting to happen. Don't buy it unless you have hardware you know will work with it.

Other Thoughts: Every other board I've bought from ASUS (and I only buy ASUS) has been top notch...guess they had to drop a lemon sometime.

4 out of 5 eggsAWESOME Motherboard

Pros: Excellent motherboard worked right when I first booted it up. CD that came with the mobo is LOADED with good programs for overclocking. I love the AI NOS. You can OC the CPU right from windows. VERY easy to OC. The Wireless works wonderful too. I love it!!!

Cons: The only reason why I give this mobo 4 stars is because the sound card it came with was DOA. But even then its not really a con because I didn't get it because of the sound card. I got it because WIFI + PCI running SLI at the full x16 speeds = PWNAGE. The best mobo I've had yet.

Other Thoughts: NEWEGG.COM ROCKS!!! You can't beat this mobo for the price either. I HIGHLY recommend this.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Overclocks well, runs any modern processor you throw at it, and has more features than you could possibly need!

Cons: none. period.

Other Thoughts: I don't know why people keep using the fact that this board only has 1 IDE port as a con... I'd like to see a modern board that has 2!
