VISTA 64bit and RAIDS
- Pros: Great compatibility with vista 64bit.
- Cons: The below setup is recommended by ATI as per there Vista 64bit lab. You may be able to use other setups but this one is the certified configuration that ATI provided me. The person below that had the speed problems may need to follow these steps to fix the problems he is having. Before I contacted ATI for tech support my average restart time was 1hr long. After the fix restarts are under 2min max.
System setup: AMD FX62 processer, ASUS M2R32-MVP motherboard, ATI x1950 Uber edition crossfire graphics cards, Creative X-Fi Fatal1ty sound card, 2x WD Raptor-X 150g hard drives, and 4 gigs DDR2 800 OCZ crossfire certified memory. Running Vista Ultimate 64bit OEM.
- Other Thoughts: If you are going to use the SATA raid with windows vista 64bit there are some things you will need to do.
1.) The ATI raid driver wants the hard drives set to “master” :::[:] 2.) 2nd you will need to flash the bios. You can get that update from Asus direct. The update will allow for the 580x AMD crossfire speed increase. The bios will need the update for the ATI raid driver to work correctly. 3.) Install the ATI raid driver that came with the board. The vista 64bit update actually will not work as fast. *This configuration is for a raid 0 setup. With 2x WD Raptor-X drives. OR 1x WD Raptor-X setup as AHCI* ----------------- CAUTION***Please refer to your owner’s manual on updating your bios; if done incorrectly you may damage the board.***CAUTION
A great build.
- Pros: Highly stable, overclocking features are off the charts. Came with BIOS 0804 which supported my AMD X2 6000+ processor. It DOES support Creative X-Fi sound cards with no problems.
- Cons: Northbridge heatsink is positioned too close to the video card. Board itself is not black. lol
- Other Thoughts: Some guy posted a review stating that this board has issues with Creative sound cards. I myself have had this running for over 4 days straight full of numerous software installs, disk defragments, BIOS tweaks, restarts and Creative X-Fi software tweaks and still no problems. I don't know what happened with his build but I think maybe he should learn to disable the onboard sound through the BIOS before spewing nonsense. Most computer build problems are through human error and not hardware and/or software faults. =)

Great Board
- Pros: I've owned this board quite a while and Ive gone through several setups latest is a quadcore. This board supports 8gigs of DDR-800, 2 ATI Radeons in crossfire. Without the need of a crossfire connector. This thing is absoultly amazing overclocking is easy as a whistle.
- Cons: New technologies like DDR3 coming out :-(
Not for Vista 64
- Pros: Crossfire cabable full 16x2
Easy setup
- Cons: System operates fine except with Vista 64bit, for some reason network will constantly crash. I tried everything to fix problem, finally gave up and bought a crosshair 2
I actually like this board, and if your running another operating system, it is well worth the cost.
Good board
- Pros: This board is great ive been using it since it came out and it hasnt failed me yet, the x16 crossfire modes are correct both slots run @ full capability!
- Cons: The overclocking tools in the bios are very confusing, but after about an hour or so of reading the manual and reading guides i found out how.
Also they need to make up their mind if this can support quad-cores... The Asus site says it supports socket am2+/am2 but Newegg says only am2.
- Other Thoughts: 8Gigs DDR2 800 ocz gold.
1000W Corsair PSU 2x 128gig Solid State drives in raid amd 6000+ @ 3.7ghz on a zalman reservoir. 2x HIS 1gig/256bit Hd4870's GDDR5 in crossfire. All of this fits very well into my Raidmax Aztec case.
(It is very heavy :P my case weighs easily 40lbs)
