Primary IDE is dead (not really)
- Pros: Several of us have reported that the primary IDE channel on this motherboard does not work. I diagnosed the problem in my case and now offer this 4-star review to offset the 2-star review I had posted previously.
- Cons: The primary IDE channel does not work at first, but a simple fix corrects this problem.
- Other Thoughts: It turns out that the solder points beneath the primary IDE connector are deeper than the brass offsets between the motherboard and my metal case. Therefore, the primary IDE connector was being shorted out by my case. To fix this problem, I simply inserted an electrical insulator (a folded paper bag works great) between the solder points and the case. My motherboard is working perfectly now.
Very Good Board
- Pros: This is my sixth combo purchase, no bad boards, it will overclock the 4000 chip SWEET!!! all 6 perform as well as higher price boards, I have XP w|SP2 slipstreamed in. Flawless install and runs very stable. Excellent upgrade combo, This combo with a MSI GeForce 6800, and Patriot memory will serve you well. Runs 24/7 no hickups.
- Cons: I don't like the positioning of the 24 pin plug, slightly difficult when appearance is a concern in the Mod world. Not used to side plugs for PATA but works fine.
- Other Thoughts: Notice a lot of bad reviews, but most people only comment when they want gripe!!! I think this board has been getting a bad rap due to inexperienced builders, always have all drivers SP2 ETC.. before you start your build. Reading the posts before I bought mine, I could see alot of the errors. In many cases cheap memory and video cards are to blame, after that it boils down to can you take a good board , memory , video card, and do you know what is needed to build PC's from scratch. For the others I think they would have trouble with computers out of the box. If you can't swim don't go in the water.

Awesome Motherboard for the price!
- Pros: This motherboard is excellent! It's a great buy, very stable, and I haven't had a single issue with this board since I built it (almost a month ago). My previous socket 939 motherboard's chipset fan went out THREE times--there's no fan to worry about on this board. No IDE issues on my board - am running SATA drives with IDE DVD on primary IDE Channel.
- Cons: I literally can't find anything wrong with this board.
- Other Thoughts: I've NOT had one single crash/issue/error since loading Win2k Prof, 2GB RAM, 2 Raptors (non RAID), and Nvidia 6600GT.
If you are going non-SLI route, this is an excellent board. I did not have any IDE issues that others have experienced. Then again, my only IDE drive is DVD and it's flawless on the primary channel.
Great for cheap gamers
- Pros: This was my first ground up build for my dad and the board works great for what we wanted
- Cons: I had an AGP graphics card but i got a better PCI-E card for free so it's not really a con
- Other Thoughts: I'm running a 2.0 GHZ AMD Athlon with 2gig of ram and only 180 gigs of HD space
Decent 939 Socket Motherboard
- Pros: Board has 4 SATA Ports plus 2 EIDE controllers. Supports a lot of drives.
- Cons: None
