5 out of 5 eggsPurchased in 2007 still going strong

Pros: Unbelievable motherboard ahead of its time. I bought this in Nov 2007. I have not had a need to upgrade yet. I have debated upgrading to newer motherboards but this still runs all the latest applications and games with super performance. I just recently installed a third SSD and a clean install to Windows 8.

This is still my main dev and gaming rig. The PC still screams. My PC is running an overclocked Q9450 @ 2.83 Ghz, 8 GB RAM, x3 120 GB SSD, x1 1TB HD, x2 ATI 6870.

Unbelievable board, definitely can't go wrong with ASUS. I probably won't upgrade this until it craps out.

Cons: LGA775, but but fortunately the Intel Quad Core series were a great line of procdessors.

5 out of 5 eggs4+ years and going

Pros: Still working flawlessly after 4+ years while overclocking my Q6600 @ 3.4ghz. I definately got my money worth on this purchase. My wife also uses this PC and she is a night owl so this mobo has been on basically 24/7 for that duration. One of the best investments I have made PC wise. Completely satisfied.

Cons: Would have been nice if it had SATA III but then this mobo was before that time so I cannot call that a con.

Other Thoughts: I upgrade alot ( VGA, HDD, OS) and the choices are getting slimmer since time has moved on but this setup still lets me play the newest games when the mood hits. Currently have (1ea) EAH6970, Corsair HX620 PS, 8GB ( 4X2gb) Geil PC 1066 DDR2, Creative Audigy 2 sound card, Win 7, etc. I have entertained the thought to build a i7 setup but why if this PC still does everything I need.

5 out of 5 eggsStill running and updating

Pros: Still running strong after 3 yrs. Always by ASUS MBs.

Cons: none, other than cant install i7 processors

Other Thoughts: Been running Win7 without issues, Update parts now and then, thinking of upgrading video card, which by the way the board supports the new cards, it was a great buy.

5 out of 5 eggs3 years and 6 months later

Pros: Still runs great. Mostly gaming COD Black Ops on this board, a Intel E6850 and an nvidia 260 gts with 2gb ram at max settings.

Cons: seems old now, but still chugging awesomely.

Other Thoughts: Too bad its discontinued. Still a great gaming rig 3 1/2 years later.

1 out of 5 eggsUnsatisfied

Pros: Works as expected except as noted below.

Cons: RAM won't run at full speed, sound it horrible, USB header underpowered, horrible SATA port placement.

Other Thoughts: I have owned this motherboard for over a year and I am extremely unsatisfied. I always buy quality brand boards, but this one just fell short.

I have never been able to get my RAM to run at full speed. I used some Kingston from the supported list but it didn't run at full speed either so I took it back and kept the Corsair RAM I have. I finally gave up on that.

The sound riser sounds pops so I replaced it with a Soundblaster Audigy 2ZS. It also pops and sounds bad. It worked in my other board and so did my Bose speakers.

One of the USB headers is underpowered or something. I cannot run a thumb drive from the case slot so I had to run a cable from the back. Completely defeats the purpose of having a USB port on the case.

It took me 20 minutes and I had to unplug a hard drive to access the SATA ports on the board. They are side mounts in a ridiculous location. I was cussing up a storm trying to install my Blu-ray drive. That was the final straw so I am writing this

5 out of 5 eggsYear after review

Pros: Has been a great board, no trouble with ram timings, or anything else for that matter. Been running a pretty power hungry setup for over a year now and no failures like some people.

Cons: The only con I have is aisuite will not work after installing a new bios, wish I never had now. I had no real reason to, but I figured I would and now (even after reverting and trying every new bios since then) aisuite just will not work correctly. Annoying because I would like to take advantage of the power saving features.

Other Thoughts: Been pushing a 9800GX2, 4GB ddr2 pc2-6400 ram, 3 HDDs(640GB, 250GB, 60GB), Core 2 Duo E6850 3.0 ghz for over a year and still hasn't failed , even with daily gaming sessions (4-5 hours daily) in fairly graphical intensive games(cod5, css, l4d, tf2, crysis) and plenty of single player games in between. Highly recommend this board.

2 out of 5 eggsBad Luck

Pros: It's fast and has lots of overclocking options.
It booted up on the first try and worked great for a while.

Cons: after a week or two the CMOS started forgetting who it was and all the settings were set to default. Then I had to replace the on-board battery. Then the BIOS became corrupted and I tried to reflash it with the EZ flash utility. Then it would not post and I had to send it to ASUS to get the BIOS reflashed. Then when I got it back it worked for about a week and the BIOS became corrupted again. So I reflashed it again and the BIOS picture became corrupted, but it still booted up. I haven't had any problems with the board since then.

Other Thoughts: I replaced my old MSI board with this one because the MSI one got where it wouldn't post sometimes. When the P5E started giving me problems I was in school and I was trying to make do with it, but I eventually had to send it back when it would no longer post.(I became very angry when I had school work to do and my computer would not turn on) While I was waiting for the P5E to be repaired I put my old MSI board back in my computer. After getting it back and going through a second set of BIOS corruptions, it is now running smoothly.
I guess ASUS has problems with some of these boards.
I would not recommend using this board in a computer that you do work on, because you may get one of the bad ones like I did.
