5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Company GREAT BOARD

Pros: I used this mobo for a recent build in May. This board was excellent and did all that i needed for a great price. Recently the system stopped powering on the the mobo was found to be the culprit. I contacted ASUS and had a xship RMA set up with in minutes. There was a little delay and i contacted them, they offered to overnight ship it at no cost to me. Their customer support is excellent. This board may be a little more than another company's board however the customer service is priceless.

Cons: It cost money...

5 out of 5 eggsGood board for the price

Pros: This is a good MOBO for the price. it suports lots of memory, two GPU sllots, runs nicely and has lots of suport softwere. runs relatively cool. The hottest I've ever seen it running was something like 55C. But that was because I played COD4. Its true that it needs bios upgrade in order to run 45nm CPU's. but it takes only like what, 5 minutes to upgrade the Bios.

Cons: drivers on CD are outdated. would be a good idia to download them of the support.asus.com

5 out of 5 eggsi <3 P5K

Pros: After reading a lot of reviews, I was scared my (open box) P5K would come DOA. But the features this board has for the price made me choose it. Thankfully, After plugging everything in the board just worked. Absolutely NO problems. I did not have to format my OS. Vista "installed" all the drivers for me, but I went to ASUS's website and got all the latest drivers anyways. This board has more overclocking features than I will ever need, and just keeps on getting better. Also, it has to be the BEST looking mobo I've had. EPU is nice, I suppose. It is fun to tell and show people "Look at the power my computer saves." The AI Gear3 tool is nice, mostly for power saving though. I use DRR2 800mhz so I haven't had any RAM issues, though I am sure if I bought DDR2 1066 all I would have to do is a Bios update.

Cons: The motherboard main power is in a "untraditional" location. However since my PSU cables are long and are flexible (flex-force)I didn't have too much of a problem. Make sure that if you have a HUGE cpu heat sink (Tuniq tower 120mm) you put it on the mobo first, then plug in the power supply cables, after that screw the mobo into the chassis.

Otherwise no other cons I can think of.

Other Thoughts: :Ultra 600watt PSU: Intel Q6600 (OC to 3.0): OCZ DD2 800MHZ: XFX 8800GT: Tuniq Tower 120mm:

Great board if you dont feel like spending $300+ !
Worth the risk of getting a DOA!
*FIVE STARS*

1 out of 5 eggsproblematic

Pros: none known

Cons: after purchasing a pentium D to match the bios spec and flash the bios up to date, my new Q9450 would still not post. Also the temperatures on the pentium D build were hitting 90C+ .... Either I reveiced a bad mobo or this thing is pure junk.

Other Thoughts: read my previous review. I'm dropping it down to a "1 rating"

2 out of 5 eggsBIOS update required before using newer 45nm CPU's

Pros: I've been running ASUS boards dating back 10 years and have never had a MB problem. Software is always top notch, board construction and placement make sense, easy install, good cooling, ok support.

Cons: The P5K EPU I received from NewEgg on 7/22 failed to post because the Bios (0305) does not support the Intel Q9450 CPU. I realize after reading between the manual lines and contacting ASUS, that this particular Mobo may not be factory-ready for the newer 45nm CPU's and requires a Bios update (to 0401 or 0501) prior to using the Q9450. Ideally if I had another 775 socket, 65nm CPU I would update the Bios and attempt to make it work. The PROBLEM is that all the literature, and even the ASUS package indicates "support 45nm" and it simply will not work unless you update the Bios.

Other Thoughts: Refer to ASUS's website: http://event.asus.com/mb/45nm/ for their list of Quad and Dual 45nm READY motherboards. Newegg is accepting a return on my P5K EPU and I will be ordering a different Mobo from list. Keeping my fingers crossed!

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Easy to install. Works perfectly with Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit. Has a built in program for monitoring CPU temperature and has great overclocking programs. Easy to overclock. Lots of USB ports with support for 6 more. Saves power by underclocking the CPU when it is not in use, and allows you to easily choose an over/underclocking mode. (Max power saving, Medium power saving, High Performance, Turbo, or auto)

Cons: None that I can think of.

Other Thoughts: The included programs make overclocking easy. It has an automatic overclocking mode or a manual overclocking mode that allows you to set the CPU frequency/multiplier, RAM frequency/voltage, and the PCIE frequency. All from inside windows. If you don't know what voltage to set your RAM you can just leave it at auto. Also if you your overclocking settings cause your system to crash your bios will automatically revert to the last working system clock settings.

A very nice motherboard.

System Spec: CoolerMaster Cosmos S case, PNY GeForce 9800 GTX Overclocked, Intel Q9300 2.5GHz quad-core, OCZ SLI-ready 4GB DDR2 800MHz ram, Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit

5 out of 5 eggsStable board

Pros: Stable, fast, no issues during burning in. Memory and cpu are running at rated speeds. Easy to install, good manual. Built this system for Photoshop and am real happy with the results.

Cons: No estata. All the P5K series on ASUS's website had 2 esata ports on the backplane. Newegg was correct with their product specifications. 6 usb ports and no esata, should have read more closely. No problem though, bought an PCIe single channel 2 port esata - so now have lots of usb and 2 esata.

Other Thoughts: Price/performance has me recommending this board to friends. The EPU works - throttles back to save $$ when performance not needed, but spins up instantly. Have not overclocked, but don't need to. Photoshop is actually fun to use with 800mb+ panoramics, instant response.

3 out of 5 eggsFew issues

Pros: Easy to install. The manual helped even a casual builder as myself out.

Cons: Had an issue installing the sound driver off the CD. Went to the asus website and tried to download it and got the same error. Couldn't find any kind of support on their website for such error. 5 days after I am getting no sound device detected and no sound. Tried just about everything I know to fix it but couldn't.

Other Thoughts: Working fine besides the sound/sound driver issues.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Board

Pros: Great motherboard, works right out of the box and Asus provide extra accessories for easy installation. This motherboard was used to build Music System, all the Pros recommend this board for the perfect Music build. Great overclocking and Fan control features. Setup: Intel Wolfdales 3.0 procsor with 4GB Dual Geil 1066 ram and 1 TB hard drive.

Cons: The HD sound drivers doesnt work well, after 2 calls to Asus Techs, I finally figure the fix on my own, through research. Dont install the Audio driver from the Driver CD. Download Windows HD Audio Codecs R1.98 from the RealTek.com works perfect for XP/Vista.

Other Thoughts: The board has a Energy saving(EPU) monitor and software to assist with monitoring how much power used and saved. For now the board works great.
