5 out of 5 eggsVery Happy

Pros: Great quality board. Everything well marked and easy to work with. Loved the Q Connect system - hate dealing with all those front panel cables. Manual very clear and informative. Excellent DVD with all drivers and auxiliary software. BIOS easy to update and change settings. Q Shield (backplate) solidly constructed.

Cons: Minor - Backplate very snug in my older tower case. Really needed a good firm push in two spots to get it to seat evenly. Also, placement of ATX power connection not ideal for me. Butts up against my removable drive cage making removal tricky (watch those cables). May not be a problem for others.

Other Thoughts: Really like this board so far. Glad I spent a few extra dollars to replace the crummy ECS board I RMA'd. Thanks Newegg.

5 out of 5 eggsEasy to install board

Pros: Everything was easy to install. The CD that came with the board was easy to navigate and pull off only the drivers that I wanted. Booted up second try.

Cons: no complaints here

Other Thoughts: for a first time computer builder everything went smooth.

3 out of 5 eggsNot bad, but not great, either...

Pros: No stability issues, relatively easy setup, decent layout.

Cons: Needs a BIOS update to fix a few VCore issues:

1) Default AUTO setting overvolted both my original 9950BE and my just installed PII 920.

9950 requires 1.3v, board supplies 1.36v in AUTO.

920 requires 1.35v, board supplies 1.42v in AUTO.

2) Manual VCore settings are incomplete, and will also undervolt a bit from whatever is set.

9950 set at 1.30v was supplied with 1.26v

920 requires 1.35v, but BIOS options only allow for up to 1.30v to be set (which, as above, would end up as even less).

I have also had an issue with 2 types of CL4 DDR2-800 memory that I have tried:

G.Skill requires a bank cycle time of 36 to run EPP 4-4-4-12, but 26 is the highest BIOS option, cuurently. Stability doesn't seem to be hindered, and this is an admittedly minor issue, but, I am unable to run memory that is actually in their QVL for this board at recommended settings.

(F2-6400CL4D-4GBPK in QVL, and F2-6400CL4D-4GBPI-B also tried, but not in the QVL)

Other Thoughts: I am a bit irritated with the VCore issues I mention above, especially considering the fact that there is a 4 page thread in the ASUS support forum regarding this issue that was started Jan 7th, with a BIOS released a few weeks later that did nothing to address the issue, and nothing since.

I do see a few very recent BIOS releases for other boards in the M3A78 family, so maybe we will see something soon.

5 out of 5 eggsAnother Nice Board From Asus

Pros: Packed with great features. Easy to install, especially with the Q-Connector which make life easy. Fires right up with no problem, and flashed the bios too. If you are familiar with Asus mobo's you won't have a problem with this one. I didn't use the on-board graphics, but I like this board a lot.

Cons: None really, but I can't use the Express Gate function, because I'm using McAfee total protection, and it takes about a minute and a half to release the internet connection (once McAfee's splash screen appears). No problem, and I can live with that.

Other Thoughts: I recently chose another board, because I needed a full sized ATX board. The other board failed on me, and I got this one instead. Newegg shipped this one out in a day, and RMA'd the other one. Thanks, Newegg for the great service and I will continue to purchase all my computer related items with you.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Nothing.

Cons: I am sure this is a fine board but I had received a defective motherboard like others which had a bad video output. Wasted money buying different parts to fully test that the board was DOA.

Other Thoughts: I am sure this is a fine board but I had received a defective motherboard like others which had a bad video output.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We are sorry for this inconvenience. Please let us know if we can assist in the RMA process by contacting us at http://vip.asus.com/eservice/usa_rmaserv.aspx and reference case number "NE334232".

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This board was used in building 2 different computers. One was a home system 2.7 amd 64x2 9600 gt 4gb ddr2 800 250 gb hdd 450 watt power supply. The other was a gaming and multimedia system 2.6 amd phenom quad core 9800 gtx dual 1tb hdd in raid 0 blu-ray burner 850 watt power supply. On both computers, extreemly easy set up. All the miscilainious ports are labeled, plenty of room for a huge video card and still left room for all 3 pci slots. The software that comes with this board is a must have for any do it yourselfer. This will make my 12th asus build and i will use no one else.

Cons: eehhh... none...

Other Thoughts: dont let your friend talk you into a gigabyte board that comes to your house with pieces already falling off in the static bag order this board or one made by this company over all others

5 out of 5 eggsVERY CLEAN

Pros: ExpressGate is a Great lil program! well thought out and no glithes or hickups! 5 Eggs for all included software! the AMD OC utility lets u really push your CPU/RAM to its full pot. im not too hip on using software to OC but this is one PC i feel safe to let her rip! ALL included software work PERFECT with WINDOWS SEVEN (7)

Cons: the one con i have is when you OC the CPU from Bios your limited @ 1.3v The slots over that (higher volts) are reserved for the OC software provided with the MotherBoard in which i could reach 3.4Ghz @ 1.479v with a 2.4Ghz 8750 Toliman triple-core. This one con does suck really bad, but the board still gets 5 eggs hands down!

Other Thoughts: Very well laid out. im running a Radeon HD 4870 1gig DDR5 GFX card and nothing gets blocked all 4 ram slots are fill with G.skill ram total 8 gigs @ 800Mhz... 4 gigs will run in duel chan mode @ 1066Mhz with volts bumped to 1.95v or 2.0v! 600w Cooler Master is my PSU for the system. The Case wire adaptor is worth $100 alone If u buy this u will see what i mean! All Solid Capacitors are cutting edge! I used the onboard GFX for two weeks and id have to say if i wasnt forced to get high end GPU for games like GRID, Red Alert 3, ect.. the onboard sharing 8 gigs of ram with the system put out some awesome gaming n BF2142, WoW, Oblivion, all run on high setting on the onboard soo if you not hardcore u wont need a GFX card and can still play some online games! one last thing....... THIS BOARD WORKS PERFECT WITH WINDOWS 7. thx

1 out of 5 eggsJunk without manufacturer backup

Pros: Lots of good features if they work

Cons: MB came up just fine but the network interface was inoperable. After trouble shooting and communicating with ASUS support, they suggested replacing the MB. The only catch is that they won't pay to have it shipped back to them. This is now my problem for buying their junk. A manufacterer that does not stand behind its product.

Other Thoughts: I'm confident this manufacturer will someday learn an important lesson in how to deal with customers - maybe they have haven't heard of General Motors?
