Asus has long had a notable reputation within the overclocking community and their P5Q Deluxe motherboard builds on that reputation. Based on Intel's P45 Express and ICH10R chipsets, this ATX board is ready to host the latest LGA775 Core2 quad-core processors along with Core 2 Duo, Pentium D and Celeron CPUs.
Up to 8GB of DDR2 1066 RAM can be installed for increased performance. Get even more performance – up to 1200Mhz – through overclocking. The PCI-Express 2.0 x16 slots deliver double speed and bandwidth for enhanced system performance. 100% all high-quality conductive polymer capacitors give longer life and higher energy efficiency by supplying power to vital components independently.
Get eight channels of HD sound from the Realtek ALC1200 audio chipset for pure, clear audio. Connect up to six SATA drives at 3Gb/s for high-speed data transfers as well as the option for multiple RAID configurations. Integrated Gigabit Ethernet LAN allows bottleneck-free connections to other network devices at broadband speeds and a half-dozen USB 2.0 ports allows for nearly unlimited possibilities in connecting peripheral devices.

Cant beat it for price reliable
- Pros: Overclocked my c2d 1.8 ghz 6320 to 3 ghz very easy. Just had to raise fsb, add a little cpu voltage, and set memory timings and voltage. Im actually writing this while prime 95 does torture test, cpu 100% yet im still able to multitask.
more usb connections than you can ever use. Highdef audio sounds great. Drivers installed perfect no hicups at all. 16 gig of ram ready for vista, 6 sata. Connecting to case was easy with a shortcut pin connector
Plays crysis warhead smooth. On all high, if my GPU was better, 8000 gts, Im sure I would get higher framerates. But 20-30 fps smooth at 1400 x 900 is pretty good if u ask me. The native res of my 28 inch monitor is 1900 x 1200 but scales it great.
- Cons: Bios is tricky to learn, but comes with big manual. pq5 is a popular chipset so there is tons of help online if u need it with overclocking.
Had to set a setting in bios after connecting usb harddrive to tell it not to boot to it, after I already set it to boot to internal harddrive.
1 x IDE, the standard now, time to upgrade i guess.
PC prob alerts mboard temp is to high if you have a large 8000 series geforce or higher. Sensor must be right by the card.
- Other Thoughts: The Intel heatsink Fan locking system is the hardest and dumbest system I have ever owned. I thought I was going to cause stress fractures in it getting the clips to lock. If you are smart u will invest in a hsf that has screws. These hsf have given me probs on every board though, but if your a noob you might not lock it all the way and your CPU will overheat.
All in all it was between asus, msi and gigabite. msi needs to much work to it to get it right, and I trust asus so asus it is.
I love boards which require no extra downloading, new bios, extra drivers, or any other problems out of the box. If your looking for a board which will install all drivers and work as is, this will do it.
Great product when it was working...
- Pros: Very simple installation. Everything was straight forward, and fit very well in my case. Everything seemed to be built very sturdy as one would expect from ASUS. I was running the q8200, 4 gigs ocz ram, evga 9800gt and a 640gb western digital HD and this was absolutly perfect for my build since I didn't plan on going SLI. The quick start interface is actually really handy when you need to quickly look up something online! a little over 5 seconds after pressing the power button and you're good to go.
- Cons: Mine died for unexplained reasons. I was video editing for a good two weeks after my build and then i left for spring break. I came back 4 days later and it wouldn't boot properly. After disconnecting and diagnosing everything, the motherboard ended up being the problem. It was totally unexpected since I know ASUS builds quality products but I'm guessing I got a bad one.
- Other Thoughts: Unfortunately by the time it died on me I couldn't even RMA it because It was over 30 days. I'm have full faith in their products but this shows that even the top manufacturers will have a couple bad ones.

DOA
- Pros: Newegg RMA was speedy, as usual. Waived the restocking fee too ... and that's why I keep coming back to newegg over and over and over and over and over ....
- Cons: Bought a new CPU, RAM, graphics card, and mobo here on Newegg. Hooked everything up, and the system was dead. Tried a different power supply (to no avail), ruled out the CPU because it was an Intel (*NEVER* had a bad one), tried different RAM and graphics card, finally got a different mobo from a local store. It worked fine. The only sign of life that the P5Q SE/R showed was a flashing LED ... other than that it was completely dead.
- Other Thoughts: I've learned my lesson about bargain motherboards more than once ... and yet I occasionally still attempt to buy them. *sigh*

That explains the errors...
- Pros: Inexpensive
Raid 0 onboard Decent range of BIOS tweaks
- Cons: Less than 6 months after purchase, I started having issues with occasion bluescreens, delayed write errors and errors/fails when attempting to install some programs. (error 0 while installing World of Warcraft, for example)
I ran numerous tests on the hardware and it came up clean every time. I tested the RAM and HDDs in another computer and had no problems.
After the most recent bout of bluescreens, I decided to start from scratch. I took the HDDs out or RAID and went for a clean install on a single drive. It got to the drive format portion of the OS install and failed during format. On the next attempt, the drives were no longer available to choose to install to. My diagnosis is that the SATA controller is dead.
- Other Thoughts: It's a decent board, and it ran well while it ran. I do not assume that all examples of this board are bad, but mine certainly is.

dissapointing
- Pros: Good compilation of accessible slots
- Cons: As I read in another review, my computer started fine, all the fans were running. I got my OS to start and get going but now after quite some time of ownership and switching parts out the problem still persists: frequent freeaing, crashes, and BSODs. I've deducted the problem down to the board by switching out components from my friend's computer that works fine.
