3 out of 5 eggsGreat board... late disappointment.

Pros: This motherboard is an overall great motherboard for what I was looking for. Triple channel memory, overclocking friendly and a great PCI-E and PCI layout for my computer components.

Cons: It is a little over a year after my purchase, and I have decided to buy the second set of my triple channel memory. When I went to install the sticks of memory, the second 3 RAM slots do not function. This is a very big let down because I will need to buy a new motherboard in order to update my RAM.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome MoBo, Easy and Roomy

Pros: It has everything, and pretty much does everything. Easy SLI, lots of RAM room, nice cooling tech.

Cons: I wish it had more SATA ports, since everything runs SATA now... I filled them all up with my 2 Optical Drives, 2 External eSATA's, and RAID 0-1 Config.

Other Thoughts: Do your research on any part you buy. Yes, it has some issues, all have work-arounds.
It's an awesome board, and the price was not bad.
Built two identical systems on this board:
CoolerMaster 850w PSU in HAF-912 case
ASUS P6TD Deluxe
i7-950 w/ CoolerMaster cooling tower
8gb G.SKILL Ripjaws DDR3 1600mhz
x2 Gigabyte Nvidia GeForce GTS 450 (Fermi) in SLI

1 out of 5 eggsWorked fine 1 month

Pros: Everything was great at first.
No problems with space or connectors.
Looks nice.

Cons: After about 40 days one of the internet ports stopped working along with 2 USB ports.

Price vs. quality.... Maybe I got a lemon?

Other Thoughts: Too bad it didn't do this before the 30 days for warranty.

Using the second internet port until it goes out. Then I'll be out a computer for who knows how long.

1 out of 5 eggsRefund Please!

Pros: Allegedly allows SLI and CrossFireX. Option to place Chipset fan.

Cons: Just around 2 months in use and the thing is still piece of junk. ASUS technical support simply doesn't try to understand, they just want you out of their hair.

No SSD support, Terrible LAN and Audio drivers, RAID driver is insufficient to the task for even a simple Raid 1 without BSOD. I had to install a NIC and sound card to get around the driver issues. It's also picky when it comes to memory. One-egg is being generous.

Other Thoughts: I finally pulled this out of my system and threw in a reconditioned EVGA board that was half the price with twice the features that actually work and supports SSD's!

I used to buy exclusively ASUS motherboards, but not anymore. This will be my last purchase from them, unless they somehow make good.

Don't bother posting one of those follow-up responses ASUS unless, you can give me my money back for this board, because I sure don't want to exchange it for one of the same.

3 out of 5 eggsFollow-up: Driver Issues

Pros: SLI and CrossFireX support. X58 chipset and triple channel memory capacity. Option available for an aftermarket 40mm chipset cooler and includes another small optional fan to cool the mosfet's heat-pipes. Nice I/O and internal connections.

Cons: DRIVERS! Terrible sound and LAN drivers. LAN speeds are down from my previous 780i Mainboard and the sound drivers have conflicts with some Nvidia drivers creating latency spikes; static. I fought for days trying to figure out what the issue was and just ended up putting in a sound card and disabling the onboard. ASUS technical support never got back to me. What is the deal with component makers these days? Every one is putting out sub-standard products with terrible customer service follow-up. May start looking for PCI-LAN alternatives.

Other Thoughts: It's the best of several evils now-a-days. Given the chance I would probably buy the board again, but I really wish the manufacturers would get their acts together and put out a stable product. This is OK, but no where near the stability of ASUS's previous offerings a few yers ago...

4 out of 5 eggsGood Board

Pros: Solid Caps, Good airflow design, option for chipset cooling fan of your choice (40mm), triple channel memory support, works in SLI or CrossFire.

Cons: The express gate app that resides on basically a memory chip on the motherboard is useless IMHO and just takes up real estate on the board.

Driver set up is a little flaky when installing, I'm also noticing a slowdown for incoming data from the internet since my last board. Not sure if it's the drivers or the chipset.

Other Thoughts: Generally ASUS has been good to me, but as of late the support horror stories are making me a little nervous. We'll see how this holds up in the next few months and post a follow-up.

1 out of 5 eggsWent Thru 2

Pros: This motherboard has all the right features, it is designed to run with minimal power and very cold.

Cons: The first board I received had 2 bad DIMM slots, the second was DOA. I have also found that, Asus customer support doesn't seem to be all that useful. One guy told me to reset my BIOS I had to remove the CMOS battery and wait an "hour." So don't plan on getting the help you need from their tech support.

Other Thoughts: Asus, used to be a great brand but in my experience here they have just let me down on too many levels.

3 out of 5 eggsYah-u-betcha

Pros: 1. Nice looking Board.
2. Easy Bio's.
3. Express Gate feature.
4. Good price for what you get.
5. Lots of cables, plus extra heat sink cooler.

Cons: Idles at 37C which seems high to me when I was use to 29C on my old Asus P4800. In power saving mode 35C the lowest I can get.

Power & reset lights are quite bright.

Other Thoughts: It came with great software that has EPU-6-Engine that allows you to power down things for savings. Plus came with Asus PC Probe 2 that allows you to monitor your temps & fan speeds. Plus the Express Gate that can be turned on/off in the bio's.

1 out of 5 eggsBent Pins

Pros: Looks like a solid board with a good layout.

Cons: Came with bent pins. There were greasy fingerprints on back of the board. The motherboard mounting holes looked like the board was previously used. Seriously, is this a refurb board sold as new ? Anyone still working in the ASUS QA department ?

Other Thoughts: Can I even hope to get a good board once Newegg processes the RMA ?

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issues you are experiencing with this motherboard. This board is also sold as an open box item so you should verify if you purchased the board at the full price or if you paid less and may have ordered an open box item.

Regarding the bent CPU socket pins, please contact us at or 812-282-2787 so we can assist you in getting a replacement motherboard.

Best Regards,

ASUS Support Team

4 out of 5 eggsNice board - Possible RAM issues

Pros: This is a great looking board, the bios is easy to work with. It has no problems overclocking. Im running at 4ghz on an i7 950 with a coolermaster V8 with very little tweaks (or overclocking experience) and Im sure there is no problem going higher if i desire to in the future. The board seem for the most part pretty solid and well working.

Cons: There is a possible issue with the board and running three sticks of ram at cold boot.

If you google it you will see this is a problem effecting alot of different memory makers on this board so its unlikely to be a memory issue in my opinion.

The problem is that on a cold boot (after several hours off) turning the machine on will only register 4GB out of 6GB. Hitting reset will still keep showing only 4GB or ram..

However, shutting down completly and restarting the pc even if it was only halfway through the cold boot will instantly register the full 6GB in the bios. and from that point on.. no matter how much you shut off or turn on it will show the full ram until you leave it off overnight again. (this is stock not even OC)

I have tested all three sticks in all three sockets and every one of them seems to pass all tests. and it ram shows no problems during daily use other then the cold boot issue. So I am assuming it is something in the bios or wrong with the board

Other Thoughts: Despite the cold boot issue I am having with the ram (and apparently alot of other people) this is an awesome board. I guess I could return it and get newegg to send me a new one.. but I generally leave my pc on 24/7 anyway so the impact on my day to day activities is negligible. And even if I do shut it off.. it just adds a few extra seconds every day and the rig still benchmarks very high.

so I figure if it becomes a problem later I will just RMA to the manufacturer sometime later in its 3 year warrenty. But tearing down the system with its good temps and great perfomance is not worth the effort.

Its possible I installed the cooler sub optimally or a ram stick is bad but it seems to be too common of an exact issue with this MB.

I was debating between this and the blue usb 3.0 version and liked the look of this one better and figured asus has an add on card for usb 3.0 for $24.99 which will likely be $9.99 by the time I need it. overall nice board and overclocks well.
