5 out of 5 eggsFor Glory!

Pros: As it has long been out of stock, I'm among the legion writing a review here only to underline the amazing build quality found in this motherboard. As with so many other ASUS products!

My main points here are:
-I've been able to use a slew of components on both this MoBo and others. I played a lot of games early in this period, which over time transitioned more toward database crunching, bioinformatics, things like that. This lets me say with some authority that the mobo really seems to bring out the best in components. As ASUS products always seem to.
-If it doesn't go without saying, aforementioned slew of components always worked properly without a hitch - effortlessly. I've come across boards which simply refuse to get along with components they should; this is decidedly not one of those boards. The anti-one-of-those, really.
-I'm ruthless with technology. I've never worn a purpose-built anti-static anything in my life. I use magnetized screwdrivers in places I shouldn't. Etc. If you are the manufacturer of a product I'm trying to RMA, let me say that I'm sure I'll have corrected my errant ways well before I needed to RMA your product. If you're not such an entity, know that this board is tough. Again, as all ASUS products seem to be!

Explanation: Being a cheap a... eh, frugal person regularly travelling from the U.S., I've deconstructed my "home" PC several times, taking expensive components out whilst leaving the MoBo, PhII X3 BE, and even (far) more ancient case in storage. After taking things (RAM, GPU... even a PSU when I had 2 checked bags for no extra cost) out-of-country and throwing them into second hand PCs, I've always wiped and left the PC I built. Strange, yeah, but I always know someone who needs one, and components/computers are (almost) always more expensive outside the U.S. Being a (probably mad) scientist, I'd never destroy these franken-computers anyway. Eventually, I head back to the U.S. and re-rebuild my computer with fresh components and this motherboard+X3+case of the ancients. The cycle continues. Thus the main points above.

While I'm here, props to the ASUS RMA people floating around NewEgg. Points for them are further points for ASUS. Yeah, I'm a fanboy - ASRock is great too, but we all know why.

Cons: -She's weathered this better than any other board I've had by far, but is now at a point where suitable components are more expensive than components with newer standards.
-Not easily transported in luggage!

Other Thoughts: I just searched my inbox for the receipt - Pasta above! ...bought it in 2009.

OS: Always Windows 7
CPU: PH II X3 710 AM3 2.6GHz
Case: "heirloom"

5 out of 5 eggsI love ASUS!

Pros: I've had this MOBO for about 4 years now and still running strong. I started purchasing ASUS products because of this board. I updated my rig this year and converted my old rig into an HTPC. I paired it with my old gtx560ti, 4gb Ram and 60gb SSD and AMD athlon II X4 640. Windows 8.1 Rated my setup with the lowest score of 7.1, not bad for an HTPC. I can actually relax on my couch and play my games on my 60" LED TV. This MOBO is Awesome, if only it could support the new FX AMD CPUs i wouldn't have to upgrade my rig.

Cons: Not too many bad things i can say about this board. My onboard sound did die so that's one. The other one is the bios, it was difficult to overclock and it my 1066 Ram would be downclocked to 800.

Other Thoughts: Very Good Motherboard. Rock Solid. Thanks ASUS.

Plenty of expansion slots

5 out of 5 eggsRock Solid

Pros: Had this board running in my 3.5 year old computer and it's still going strong. I have a phenom II x4 955 BE in it with stock heatsink (replacing soon).

Cons: -Wish the overclocking in the bios was a little more descriptive.

-Only one 3-pin fan connector

Other Thoughts: Very solid product. My next board will definitely be an ASUS (if it's reasonably priced) ;).

2 out of 5 eggsNever reliable

Pros: Good value w/ quality sound and video

Cons: Never stable since purchased. This was my first ASUS motherboard and ASUS product ever purchased. I have many other ASUS products that are great but this first one was a big disappointment.

Other Thoughts: This board has given me grief since I purchased it to build my wife a PC. I am tired of having to troubleshoot this every other month for the past 2 plus years. Time to RMA before warranty runs out.

Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggs3 1/2 Years - Still going.

Pros: Asus came through for me once again with this motherboard.
Easy install and setup
Good value

Cons: Nothing to report

Other Thoughts: Board has ran great. Only issue is recently the video is having problems where it gets blurred out in random areas. Maybe the video and drivers are not keeping up with system, not sure.

5 out of 5 eggs2yrs. 11 months still running like a champ

Pros: I know it is a mute point since this board is now "out of stock" but I felt compelled after all this time to say that this has been a fantastic board for my first build as I still use it daily.

Cons: None to speak of except the passage of time and newer technologies by Asus that are faster.

Other Thoughts: For the price and the length of time this board has preformed very well being my very first build.

2 out of 5 eggsWorked well untill capacitors got swollen

Pros: Good value, has reasonable good video and sounds.Multiple video and USB ports.

Cons: With time became unstable, locks and crashes

Other Thoughts: I built a system with AM Phenom II X4 BE and 8GB or DDR2 800. Easy to install and reliable mother, but with time the built in video started crashing the system. Latest catalyst drivers not always help. At the end I purchased a discrete video card. Worked well for a while then crashes and locks got up again. Now the capacitors look swollen and system needs multiple start-stops until it actually starts POST. I would probably look for Gigabyte next time around.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We're sorry to hear about the issue with instability on the motherboard. Please try clearing CMOS, use BIOS defaults (no overclocking), and retest. If no change, please RMA it to us as soon as possible by using the online submittal form at: http://vip.asus.com/eservice/usa_rmaserv.aspx or call us at 1-812-282-2787. Thank you.

5 out of 5 eggsLong lasting and reliable

Pros: Reliable, long lasting, and powerful for it's time

Cons: Not the boards fault, but it's really outdated at this point. Other than that, nothing.

Other Thoughts: Only reason I'm looking to replace this board is that I need a new CPU and would have to upgrade the board to handle an AM3+ CPU. Had this thing for nearly 3 years, and I think it was becoming obsolete when I got it even then. I'll miss the little guy... maybe I'll make a backup computer for my mother out of it!
