3 out of 5 eggsGreat board, bad service

Pros: Meets all requirements for my new build, good layout and features. USB3

Cons: Board worked great for about 18 months and then started to get BSOD. Send in for repair and got it back in 1 week. Worked for 4 weeks and BSOD again. Second try for service. Still no board after 10 days.

Other Thoughts: I would given the MB 5 stars but the bad service and confusion at the service center makes me give it 3 stars. In addition the ASUS service line is a nightmare. The sound quality is and has been so bad for several years that it is nearly impossible to understand anyone.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for your feedback on this motherboard and with customer service. We're sorry to hear about BSOD's on your system. Can you tell me more about the specific BSOD message you had? Not all BSOD are hardware related--can be caused by software. Please try a BSOD analysis tool here: http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/windows-bsod.html [Dedoimedo.com]. Also, run memtest for several passes to see if there are errors on the memory. Was the system overclocked? If yes, try running a default BIOS settings. To continue support, please email me below, include your hardware setup, configuration, RMA #, BIOS version, and other relevant information for continued support. Thank you.

4 out of 5 eggsWas great until it was bad.

Pros: Motherboard gives a lot of great features. Supports crossfire. Win7OS installs and works great right away with this motherboard. Good bored for any gamer. memOK!

Cons: Worked for about a year then just randomly died... I thought this was suppose to be a solid board. The intigrated wiring went bad. Wont take off to many eggs, since this board did last me well over a year and a half.

5 out of 5 eggsI Must Have Gotten Lucky...?

Pros: I really love this motherboard. Wow, where to begin.
- Full ATX Board
- High Quality Material
- IDE Support
- On-Board Video
- Feature-rich Bios
- SATA III
- USB 3.0
- Stylish Color Scheme
- A Slew of OC'ing and Memory Options.

Cons: Well, there's a couple. But they are not worth an egg, imo.
- Not AM3+ So no cheap upgrade path in the future
- Could use at least one more fan connector

Other Thoughts: I have been rocking this board for about 1.5 years. It has performed better than any board I have ever used to date. I hope I get at least 4 years more from it. High quality and solid parts used with my build and this board compliments them all really well.

Looking at the high RMA rate for this model, I worry that one day it might give me problems, but so far judging from the level of solid performance is gives I really don't see that happening.

he amount of features and the price (at the time) was totally worth it. Overclocks with ease. It's a very feature-rich motherboard with older, useful options your not likely to find on newer boards these days. (IDE support, on board video ect.)

With it only being AM3, there is not much of an upgrade path. Oh well. The FX series CPU's never impressed me anyway. No biggie for me. But others might disagree there.

Sadly, I'm not sure I could recommend it with the amount of RMA's there are though. I must have gotten lucky... ?

1 out of 5 eggsASUS DOES NOT CARE! DON'T BUY!

Pros: When it works, it is fairly stable. Works well with Windows Vista or Windows 7. This motherboard actually seems to in my tinkering and 5-6 installs of Windows work better with Vista, not very usual.

Cons: -Poor build quality; high RMA rate
-Terrible BIOS. Buggy, keyboard not always detected, apparently they still can't get full keyboard support in the BIOS, pathetic.
-Totally incompatible with anything other than Vista or 7 or newer. XP only works somewhat.
-Manufacturer does not keep their drivers up to date or provide proper drivers, prefer to advance your driver-finding skills with this poorly documented and built motherboard
-Hard drive indicator light does not always function, another random bug. Sometimes it just stays solid. Has nothing to do with controller
-You cannot disable individual hard drives from the BIOS, a HUGE HUGE con even cheaper motherboard I've seen do not lack this feature
-BIOS does not allow much advanced control over board other than features boasted such as overclocking.
-Lacking of minor features or options much cheaper boards have

Other Thoughts: -AMIBIOS is a con in my book. I prefer AwardBIOS / Phoenix and regardless I believe ALL mobo manufacturer should state what their BIOS is or is based off of and not some brand name garbage.

Do not buy from ASUS. I sent their tech support a full fledged issue list, they neglected every single one and point I made about the issues I was having, told me to use a different keyboard or send in for an RMA. They simple DO NOT care. Unless they are willing to send me another for free, it is not worth my sweat and tears over their poorly build product(s)

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issue you had with the motherboard.

If your keyboard is not detected in BIOS, please try to connect it to another USB port. Once you are in BIOS, enable Legacy USB Support. We do have support for most of Windows OSes including XP, Vista, and 7. The drivers, utilities, and other software have been tested to work with the motherboard but if you experience problems, please try updating to the latest version on our website (remember to do an install first). Please make sure that the hard drive indicator lead is plugged into the HD activity pin. Regarding the BIOS maker, this information is listed on the motherboard specs page at http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM3/M4A785TM/#specifications.

We thank you for your feedback and the time you took in writing this review.

Benson

1 out of 5 eggsWarranty Nightmare

Pros: Was a great mobo until it stopped working.

Cons: Ordered on 2/24/12 Asus recieved for RMA on 5/30/12. on 6/11/12 I was told they would not fix it because of extensive damage. It has a 1/8" scatch on the corner edge of the board, no where near any buslines or any thing. Well it is 6/25/12 and i still dont have my mobo back unfixed. I work in retail and deal with customers all day never would a issue like this go unfixed. Asus has lost a loyal customer for life and I will tell everyone I know to stay away.
