4 out of 5 eggsM4A88T-V EVO/USB3 Review

Pros: Great Overclocking potential and use. Great price and worth it if Overclocked. I built a pc using this mobo as a side project specifically for the OC capabilities and it worked great. I got my Phenom II X6 1075T to 3.9 GHz.

Cons: Outside of its amazing overclocking abilities it feels slightly lackluster. The Turbo Expansion does not meet expectations and Caused me a few BSODs.

Other Thoughts: Great for Overclocking for the price but if that is not your primary concern find a different board.

Pros: Has a ton of features. Nice layout. Need a big tower for the board.

Cons: Died after a year. USB overcurrent detected. Need to RMA it.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issue you have with the motherboard.

If you're getting the "USB device over current settings" and your system has a front USB panel or rear USB panel, make sure it's attached to the correct connector in the correct orientation. Also, try removing these connectors, and/or clean the USB ports.

If you still have problems or have other concerns, please contact me at cl-benson@asus.com. Reference #C1037-5343 in the subject line for faste reply.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate to my last review

Pros: Thanks to ASUS tech support I was able to find out that the BIOS was corrupted and was a very easy fix all I had to do was flash the BIOS and install the newest one. I found out updating the BIOS through Windows with software that comes with this board was the cause.
I already bought a new ASUS board that supports the new FX series CPU's and plan to use this mobo for my spare build.
ASUS tech support is the best very happy

Cons: None

1 out of 5 eggsNice looking board BUT

Pros: Very easy to OC your CPU/memory
Lots of cool settings in the BIOS
very upgradable
looks nice

Cons: Not very stable board:
The first 3 months this board worked great very fast and stable but for the last 3 months alot of problems with BSOD errors that make no since. 1 said bad memory the next said bad hard drive the next said bad CPU. Now I am getting this error all the time:
Disk I/0 error
Replace the disk, and press any key
I would be on Youtube then the computer would luck up then the screen would go blank and next thing I know I hear the beep from post. and I would get this error when I try to load windows 7. After I went into the BIOS setting cause the Win 7 DVD wouldn't load and the Win7 flash drive didn't pick up the hard drives through setup I found none of the SATA ports were showing anymore in the Main BIOS window and the hard drive and the DVD burner wasn't showing.
I had to take the battery out to reset the BIOS every time just to get the SATA ports to work.
I never had problems like this with any motherboards in the past.
Board is full of BIOS errors STAY AWAY

I'm just buying a new ASUS AM3+ board next week something with better feedback.

2 out of 5 eggsUpdated review from 08/11

Pros: Looks nice

Cons: Upgraded to the Sabertooth 990fx because this motherboard had issues with the video chip set and when I would use the turbo unlocker I would get BSOD. So it would work fine if I didn't use the turbo unlocker and the on board video chipset. The hassle it gave me for the couple of months from not knowing what was causing my issues was not worth it at all.

Other Thoughts: Get the ASUS Sabertooth 990fx, much more positives if you are willing to spend about $80 - $100 more...

1 out of 5 eggsUpdated review, still one egg :(

Pros: Less and less as I move forward with Customer Service.
Read my first review on post down.

Cons: I used to really admire Asus, their customer support and their products. I recently contacted Asus regarding this stupid mobo. I told the rep (Rafael) my problem and asked if there was anyway to maybe get a different board or possibly upgrade, and that I would be willing to pay for the upgrade. He replied that upgrades and downgrades are not in their policy in a somewhat dismissive tone. As much as all this makes me red, I continued to tell him my woes with the board and that I dont feel comfortable with it any longer as well as the fact that I have to come out of pocket everytime it breaks. He then asks me in a very rude tone, "Are you even listening to me?" I chuckled a bit simply because I was in shock that he had scolded me about my problem. A few more short words and I hung up. Called back later and got a different rep (Alex) who was much more polite but could not offer anything except a RMA. I asked to speak to a Supervisor at which point he informed there wasnt one around.

Other Thoughts: I had 3 or 4 reps tell me the same thing and not one of them could point me in the direction of a supervisor or manager. Emails that I was supposed to receive never made it to my mail box. Is there such a thing as a company that will work with someone on a personal level? I mean its not like Im asking for a better board for free! I offer to give them more money and they tell me no. Stuck with a board that has already broken twice. Sure I can get it fixed. But why? So I can send it back in a month or two? No thanks Asus. You just lost a 15 year LOYAL customer!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Sorry to hear about the issues. If you would like to RMA the board (same model exchange only) please contact us at Newegg_ASUS_MBSupport@asus.com stating all previous RMA numbers and we will look into this for you.

1 out of 5 eggsToo many problems

Pros: Board has a lot of nice tools for the overclock minded.

Cons: Already RMA'd one board. During a bios update board crashed rendering it unusable. Asus replaced board in Oct, 11. New board has been functional for about a month or two before random crashing and BSOD's. Now the board will not even stay in the bios before shutting down. Swapped PSU, nothing. Tried different RAM, nothing. Reset CMOS, nothing. Checked every plug and chip....nothing!
I have always recommended Asus products, but after this nightmare board I will no longer do so.

Other Thoughts: I am stumped as to why this board will not stay on. The turbo evo tool is nice, but if it cant do its job without messing everything up what is the point?

1 out of 5 eggsBlue Screens

Pros: Looks nice.

Cons: Constant video crashing issues, northbridge errors.

Other Thoughts: Stay away from this thing have been fighting with it for over a year. Never again Asus never again.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Sorry to hear about the issues. Please contact us at Newegg_ASUS_MBSupport@asus.com stating all parts used and we will look into this for you.

Issues like these are usually down to cooling the onboard heatsink and can also be down to memory timings for which the following often helps:

1) Set DRAM Read to Read to 7

2) Set Command Rate to 2T (AKA Command Mode)

3) Set CPU/NB voltage to around 1.30V

4) Set DRAM VOltage (VDIMM) to the specified voltage of the memory used.

1 out of 5 eggsUPDATE REVIEW!

Pros: It may still be holding up... but it's had a lot of troubles along the way.
Great Overclocking capabilities...

Cons: The SATA connector actually popped off and shorted the board. ASUS repaired it. Nothbridge has constant thermal shutdowns... Bios chip had to be replaced... NIC Failed...

Other Thoughts: I was originally satisfied... but now this is just rediculous. DO NOT BUY AN XTREME DESIGN SERIES OF BOARDS!
