2 out of 5 eggsBad Board

Pros: Ran well for almost a year

Cons: 1) Sata ports begin to die
2) Bouts of BSODs

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We're sorry to hear about the issue you had with the motherboard. Please try another SATA cable if drive detection is intermittent and clean the contacts if necessary. BSOD could be caused by both hardware and softare. We suggest load BIOS defaults, performing a clean install of the OS, and install up-to-date drivers. You can also use a DMP analyzer to help identify what caused the BSOD. If you like to RMA the motherboard to us to test for instability or functionality of the SATA ports, please use the RMA submittal form at: http://vip.asus.com/eservice/usa_rmaserv.aspx or call 1-812-282-2787.

Regards,
Benson

5 out of 5 eggsMy Best Favorite Board To Date!

Pros: I cannot understand the problems some people are facing with this board! Could it be the fact I have BIOS 501? Could it be Im lucky, or not greedy? I don't know?
But I know one thing, Asus is Awesome! I could also go on & on but I won't,Im going back to enjoy this thing!

Cons: Not 1 ity bity thing..OK BIOS 501 I know,its beyond old!
Gees, I just may have to update this thing someday, IF I have some trouble!

Other Thoughts: Every thing installed on this thing without barely a glitch.
Well, what can I say, time will tell. In any case, Asus is (and was!) a winner in my case!

5 out of 5 eggsSuperb hardware

Pros: Very well designed board with many features to play arround with. Performs and overclocks my i7 2600k like a champ. Well packed, thourough manual and the new "Bios" is very nice to play arround in :)

Cons: Price, Asus AI suit was impossible to install (Win 7 64 bit)with software that was shipped and had to wait for updates from Asus to get it to work and even then it was a pain installing it. Bluetooth feature does not seem find my china brand phone vs my honda car does.

Other Thoughts: I ugraded my system to find that my mountings for the custom water cooling I have dont fit this board so have been running on intel stock cooler "joke" I'd rather have intel include free lollypops with their cpu's than this cooler. Overclocked my cpu to 4.7 GHz in 5 minutes.

3 out of 5 eggsWerid boot problems I've never seen in a board...

Pros: 1. Feature Packed (as a deluxe board should be)...
2. Looks well engineered...
3. Thoughtfully laid out...
4. It really is noob friendly to overclock the new i7...

Cons: 1. COLD BOOT/RESTART ISSUES.

Other Thoughts: I have never seen a product this wonky right out of the box. I have built dozens of systems for myself and others in the last 10 years and I've never seen this kind of boot issues. You press power and it turns on then off, then on then off, then on then hangs, then you power off then back on, and maybe it finally boots. When it's up and running, it's been solid, but getting it to that point is frustrating. I don’t see any error code as other have pointed out either. I updated the bios to 1053 and it didn't help at all. I'd love to know what's causing this because it's making me crazy. I've pulled my case apart 10 times looking for some short on the board or anything I might have messed up and have come up with nothing. Any advice or ideas would be appreciated.

3 out of 5 eggsError 59

Pros: Beautiful motherboard. Goes great with a black interior of a case. Lots of rear I/O ports for everything you would ever need, which is awesome.

Cons: Well, all I can say is Error 59 is killing me. I get it on every boot, and have to do a reset every time in order to get it to power up. Asus, I have made the switch to your products after hearing great reviews, but honestly, this is really turning me off. Please, get a BIOS update out to fix this as it appears that I am not the only one who is ticked off by this.

Other Thoughts: Nice little USB 3.0 box it came with, but to be honest, it would have been nicer and more convenient to just have an adapter to plug into USB 3.0 header versus a whole box. The Cooler Master HAF X doesn't have front 3.5" bays, so a small adapter would work a lot better. Was able to get it into one of the internal 3.5" bays and re-route the cables, but it was a pain.

1 out of 5 eggsRandom Lockups

Pros: Ive been a huge ASUS fan for years. This is about my 12th board over the past decade. As always I love the layout, the BIOS is pretty cool, easy to navigate. I love the fact that it came with a USB 3.0 front pannel!

Cons: For the life of me, I can not figure out why this board keeps locking up. Im running Win7 x64, Ive ran the ASUS driver disk several times but still no luck. The system locks up with no error message or warning ranging from 5 minutes after boot to 4 hours later. Its driving me nuts.

Other Thoughts: If I cant trace down this random lock up problem I guess Im going to have to return the board. If anyone out there has had lock up problems with this board running Win7 x64 and figured something out, please let me know!

5 out of 5 eggsFustrating at first then smooth sailing

Pros: I received my product in a timely manner which was great! thanks newegg! Besides that the board is awesome with it's built-in bluetooth connecting to my printer via this handy-dandy perk was great. The BIOS was basically self explanatory on EZ mode and on advance it wasn't hard at all as long as your used to that interface.

Cons: The SATA drives had to be loaded onto a 3.5 floppy in order to boot on that setting(AHCI). Aren't 3.5 extinct already?

Or maybe it just had to do with Windows XP.

Other Thoughts: Over all it's a great board. I have it running w/the new i5 intel chip and the two are zen.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for the great review and we're happy that it's working well for you. Regarding the installation of the SATA drivers via 3.5 floppy using AHCI mode in Windows XP, this is normal as USB drivers are not yet loaded during the beginning of a Windows XP install and the reason that you have to install the SATA drivers in the first place is because Windows XP does not natively support AHCI mode.

Best Regards,

ASUS Support Team

3 out of 5 eggsShipping weight .90 lbs?

Pros: Can anyone who received this item tell me what the shipping weight was according to the UPS website when ordered? Mine says .90 lbs which is not correct and I am worried I may be getting the wrong item.

4 out of 5 eggsVery Nice

Pros: It's a beautiful board, aesthetically. Very nice layout, great passive cooling and loaded with features. The lighted on-board power and reset buttons are a very nice touch. The LED error code readout is great too. Over-clocking is effortless. It's a beautiful piece of hardware.

Cons: I've had the same cold-boot issues noted by others. Sounds like it'll just require a BIOS fix but this will scare new builders.

I had a few hiccups with the ASUS driver CD but nothing serious. Not newbie-friendly though.

Other Thoughts: The hardware is a thing of beauty; would have given it 5 eggs if not for the software/firmware hiccups. Asus just needs to do a little tweaking there and they'll have a first-rate product

3 out of 5 eggsNice Board but BIOS Software Needs Work

Pros: USB 3.0
BT
SATA 6G with RAID option (Intel)
UFI BIOS
OC'ing tools
Breakout box for USB 3.0 front mount
Dual wired LAN NICs
Heavy with good craftsmanship

Cons: After BIOS upgrade to 1053 Intel Rapid Storage device fails to detect 1 of my hard disks in the RAID 0 array (2 Intel 160 SSD's), Have to run BIOS 0804, its the only one which works. (BIOS DOES see both drives with any version, but Intel RST does NOT!)
Cannot access the BIOS menu via delete key, I'm jamming out on it @ boot but it won't work. Reset CMOS, tried all version of BIOS updates. Only way to access BIOS for me is the one time boot menu, very annoying
Strange that sometimes when the machine is powered up for the first time, it turns off then turns back on and continues to boot. Does this really bad after making changes to the BIOS settings, weird.
Straight out of the box it only detected 4gb of the 8gb ram installed. Looks like BIOS version 0804 fixed this and now it sees all my ram (DDR3 2000)
Resuming from S3/S4/S5 does not work for me the machine hangs and will not resume, have to give it the one finger salute and hold down the power button

Other Thoughts: The HW which the board sports is really nice, but the SW (BIOS) seems to be laggin behind, Asus should hammer out some of these issues in the next few months.
