1 out of 5 eggsworst motherboard

Pros: The BIOS and overall set up of the board was incredibly easy....thats about it

Cons: It started off with simple things going wrong such as the asus screen reloading 3 times before finally getting to the windows start up. Everything seemed to be going decent until a this month. (built it January 2011) I had google hangouts on chrome, mozilla and a couple folders when everything just froze up and then BSOD on me. It took about 5 tries to restart it with out it just crashing out on me saying that I didn't have a boot drive selected which seems to be a common problem. When I actually get it to start up fully, it might stay on from anywhere between 30 min-9 hours with very slow response times during that time before blue screening and shutting off. Now its time to buy a new mobo and transfer everything over

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issues you had with the motherboard.

Please try updating the BIOS to the latest version. As of writing, version 3207 dated 4/27/2012 is the most current. After update, press F5 to load defaults, save and exit. If you still receive BSOD, you can analyze the DMP files in C:\Windows\minidump to give you an idea of when and what caused the BSOD. Please also perform a memtest on your memory at least 8 passes for errors. Any changes?

To continue support, please send an email to cl-benson@asus.com. Reference #C1037-4772 and include your system hardware and specs for faster reply.

Regards,
Benson

1 out of 5 eggsReturn nightmare

Pros: Good board when received from Newegg.

Cons: SATA ports degrade over time. Not Neweggs fault but ASUS customer service is so bad they should be advertised as warranty not included...

Other Thoughts: Wish I could post the whole email thread here but 1K limits apply. Sent my defective board back, followed protocol for ASUS, even took picture of board in box with 4"x2.5" red bordered label showing the RMA#. UPS shows it received and signed for but ASUS claims it never was received. ASUS then repackaged my board and sent it back with no explanation in the package regarding it's status. When I followed up with them the rep said it must have been sent back because the RMA# was not provided. I took a pic of the label I had placed on the mobo box before I sent it in. I also posted the same label on the UPS box I sent them. Both labels had the RMA# on them. I forwarded that pic to the supprt tech in my response and have not heard back yet... I've always loved ASUS boards but this is my first go round with their customer service dept and I'm less than impressed... Moral to the story: A warranty is only as good as you can prove. Take pix and document all calls.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic.

Pros: Virtually everything. No issues with performance or reliability from any components. I got mine on sale, so it was cheap, but it runs awesome with my 2600K planted in it. Their "AI Suite II" software is a win for watching individual clockspeeds, temps, etc. The Auto Tuning feature gave me a smooth, stable jump from 3.4ghz to 4.43ghz that I've been running since (it offers a 'fast' and an 'extreme' setting). Setup was easy, all the components leave plenty of room to work in my standard ATX case (old one, not even sure of make/model, not a big case). The UEFI BIOS works a treat. I'm thrilled.

Cons: Didn't come with a six-pack, had to run to the gas station for my celebratory beverage+gaming session after I got it put together.

Other Thoughts: Fantastic. Love it. I read some negative reviews regarding reliability and such, but I've not seen those issues. Stoked. By far the nicest motherboard I've ever had.

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

Pros: Nice features. Everything you would need in a board.

Cons: Boots up for a few seconds then crashes, then starts up for good. Get a double Asus logo, first time it doesn't recognize my drive then it does after the second.

I tried to update the BIOS to fix these issues, after I updated, it would not boot past the Asus logo, it just gave a black screen. Reset the CMOS, it would boot windows, but it still starts for a few seconds, crashes, then boots sort of properly (still shows Asus logo twice and doesn't recognize drive the first time).

Other Thoughts: From what I can tell you are rolling the dice with this board. I am bummed mine isn't working as well as the rest of my machine. I'm debating on buying an Intel board instead if I can get this one to work.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Sorry to hear about the issues. Please contact us at Newegg_ASUS_MBSupport@asus.com stating all parts, a description of the problem and the BIOS version used, and we will look into this for you.

1 out of 5 eggsASUS Support needs work

Pros: Came new in the box. Other than the cougar point error a decent board. Easy overclocking with water cooling to a solid 5ghz.

Cons: ASUS tech support needs more work than this board. I kept the board until I knew for sure the cougar point error was in effect. I need nearly every SATA point as I have multiple drives. Spent at least an hour on the phone reaching a valid tech support number, then was told I would get a refurbished board. I asked how does one refurbish a defect in the metallic lines? Finally demanded a supervisor who GRUDGINGLY agreed to a new board. Said wait for our RMA email and follow the instructions.

Other Thoughts: If I do not receive a new revision 3 motherboard this will be the LAST ASUS product I will ever buy.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Sorry to hear about the issues. We hope the replacement board works fine for you.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Mobo

Pros: Rock solid, good build quality. Works great on Windows 7 x64 Ultimate. Plenty of expansion slots, features.

Cons: None. I haven't experienced any issues with this motherboard.

I used two packages of Kingston KVR1333D3N9K2/8G (Kingston Value Ram 1333) for a total of 16GB RAM, and haven't had any problems.

Other Thoughts: Don't go for the overclocked ram, just use KVR1333D3N9K2/8G for a great experience.

2 out of 5 eggsDoes not read 4 sticks of memory accurately

Pros: Works reading 2 sticks of memory (8 GB) consistantly

Cons: Does not read my 4 sticks of memory. All same brand totaling 16 GB. It will ONLY read 16 correctly if I go in the BIOS and do some OC scan option which turns off the computer and restarts it. Pretty lame...

Other Thoughts: ugh....

5 out of 5 eggsno problems here

Pros: runs strong, oc's my sandy to 4.5 with no problems. Nice features and layout, stays cool, some of the newest technology available on this board.

Cons: No cons.

Other Thoughts: Board was a little buggy at first, Sometimes it would restart itself non stop, bios update and some basic tweaking fixed everything. The 'double post' on start up is the power management going through its phases. I am not concerned about the error intel made with chipset, by the time it degrades (few years) ill either switch ports or will most likely have a new build planned out.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat Board Horrible Recall

Pros: Great looking Board.
I bought the I7 CPU with it, and my initial reaction was WOW! 7.8 CPU and Video 5.9 HDD benchmarks, using windows benchmarks.

Fantastic video and incledibly fast machine. using a EVGA GTX470 Video Card with it.. absolutely stunning preformance.

Asus Technical support: 1st call was horrible - Technitian was not interested in helping me, said I had heat issues, Second call I got lucky and was helped by someone who took 4 hours walking me through resetting different options, removing memory, reinstalling memory, battery etc. in an effort to get it back up and running. - Excellent support.

Cons: BIOS / Chipset. - Preformance lasted about 6 weeks before i started having trouble. Black screens, error LED's lighting up on the MoBo (vga LED, Boot LED etc) currently I am awaiting replacement through the recall process.

Errors in Bios also included incorrect reporting of Temp. Bios reads temp at 60' C while Asus Probe II software reports 38' C in windows. Caused me to buy a Zalman cooler thinking it might be heat issues.

Other Thoughts: If I can get back to the initial preformance I'd be stoked, looking forward to see what the recall process is like.

System Specs: (all bought from NewEgg of course)

4 out of 5 eggsWait and See/Cat and Mouse

Pros: Very full featured board. Assembled this build and the computer fired up immediately without any problems. So far I am pleased. In the absence of the recall, there would not be an egg deducted.

Cons: The recall is a pain in the posterior. From what I have read the problems most likely will not show up, if they show up, until around three years of average use. (The problems were discovered during some severe stress tests, apparently.) I do a new personal build about every two-and-a-half to three years, so I am still "running the numbers" in my head to see if I even want to bother with the hassle of recall/re-build.

Other Thoughts: I am going to keep on top of the problem by continuing my on-line reading, but about all I can really do is wait and see.
