1 out of 5 eggsSATA issues

Pros: Works adequately

Cons: 6GB (gray) SATA ports work; 3GB BLUE SATA ports do not. Unfortunately only found out about this when I eventually wanted to add a DVD drive to my system

Other Thoughts: spent 3 hours trying different solutions to address what should have been a 5 minute install of a DVD drive. There is reference to SATA 3GB ports being non-functional. ASUS website is worse than appalling...

Manufacturer Response:

Greetings,

I am sorry that you are having issues with the motherboard. When you have the time, please send your complete computer part list, along with any troubleshooting steps tried so far, and I will do my best to help. I can be reached by email. 3638200.

2 out of 5 eggsAsus you blew it

Pros: Nice looks, Good Price. SATA 6.

Cons: USB 3 inoperable, Bios VERY slow, Video very glitchy.

Other Thoughts: I got this board from a local place and not Newegg. Good thing probably. I have had this board for less than a year and it is the most unstable board Ive ever used. The only reason why I gave 2 stars is that its an Asus and it looks good.

3 out of 5 eggsLots of BIOS revisions

Pros: Relatively inexpensive
Easy to install
Fairly easy & intuitive to configure
onboard video
Intel CPU

Cons: Video drivers
Lots of BIOS revisions
onboard video
Bad Tech support
BSOD'd a lot
USB issues

Other Thoughts: Lots of BIOS revisions - 3 in 2012 & 5 more in 2011. One BIOS revision in the last 30 days still.
The onboard video would constantly cause my Vista Ultimate OS to BSOD. Had to disable it & install an after-market video card. It will still BSOD occasionally, but whatever's doing it doesn't cause a dump to be created.

This was my first Intel CPU since the days of 486's. I'd used ASUS boards with AMD CPU's without many issues over the years & had decent luck. Unfortunately, right after I bought the CPU & MB, the backpedaling on the Sandy Bridge/ Cougar Point Chipset recall from Intel. Not sure if this MB is part of it.
ASUS was decent about responding to tech support issues, but there was never any continuity in working with a single person to resolve the issue. They'd continually have me to do the same things over & over again, with the same result, then escalate the problem to the engineers, who would simply blame the OS manufacturer & want me to reload the entire system.
Ran all sorts of memory tests, all of which come out okay.
The board was relatively inexpensive, but has been much more trouble than I anticipated having been a previous ASUS owner. The fact that there have been so many BIOS revisions leads me to believe that ASUS was aware it was a buggy board. The BIOS revisions:
version 0603 - March 2011
version 0801 - April 2011
version 0803 - May 2011
version 1002 - October 2011
version 1101 - December 2011
version 1303 - February 2012
version 1401 - May 2012
version 1403 - September 2012

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issue you had with the motherboard.

We release BIOS updates to mainly add compatibilty and enhance stability of our motherboards, as well as to add support for new CPU's.

Does BSOD occur randomly or only when performing certain actions or tasks. If you've already tried updating the latest drivers, swapping video card (if not using onboard video) or power supply, memtest'ed your memory, OS reinstalls and are still having trouble, you may send the motherboard to my attention for test. To begin, please send an email to cl-benson@asus.com, reference #C1037-4839 in the email subject line, and include your system hardware setup and specs. Also, please describe other non-BSOD related issues in greater detail in the email.

Regards,
Benson

5 out of 5 eggsEasy to install, cheap

Pros: Purchased to build inexpensive, functional computer for my father. Had previously built one gaming rig for myself several years earlier - hoped it wouldn't be too much of a hassle. Had the thing together and working in a few hours. No problems since.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: If you're inexperienced, here's a tip - don't forget to screw the metal spacers into the case before you install the motherboard on top of it. Despite the obvious shame this brings me, I must admit that I did this and couldn't get the thing to POST. I realized my error after restarting many, many times. After installing properly, the Board functioned perfectly. Goes to show you the ASUS quality that it came out of that unscathed.

4 out of 5 eggsSmooth Swiftie...

Pros: No Problem! Easy build, everything works, OutaThe Box was perfect... This mobo(p3u67-m le), i3-2500, 8G Cosair, WD black500G - fired up 1st time, Win7Pro64 all installed and never looked back in less than and hour! Smooth, easy, good networking, onboad graphics, pluged in a USB 3.0, totaly good to go. Everythin ya need and up-n-runnin... No Problem!

Cons: No Overclockie, oh well...

Other Thoughts: Should make a good (stable) HTPT, will put in a Haupepage tuner and full WMC(WinMediaCtr) setup soon... So far so good and has the makins for a good reliable (quick & fancy) general purpose workstationa and media presentation box...

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible Board, Poor Company to Deal With

Pros: Decent price

Cons: Could not get it to system beep out of box. Horrible compatibilty with memory chips. QVL is inside the owners manual AFTER you buy it so you can't use existing memory stock or even buy it until AFTER it arrives. It has so few memory chips qualify that most chips on the market including name brand Crucial is not even on there for 4GB or 8GB chips!

Other Thoughts: Sata ports have side mounts which I have come to hate. Even without any memory chip in it would not post but support still refused to help. I am done buying anything from Asus.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Sorry to hear about the issues. The memory QVL for all boards can be downloaded from the ASUS Support site (search the model number of the board) then navigate to the download section on the product page. At the top you will find the QVL.

The board will not POST without a memory module, the IMC training routines will halt.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat bang for the buck

Pros: Did what was advertised...

Cons: I used to adventure like this board, then I took an arrow to my knee.

Other Thoughts: A lot of people here are reviewing this board with the thought that we cannot read specifications on this board. You cannot take away eggs because it has 2 memory slots... as it's advertised to only have two! This is also not the board asus recommends if you want to push into gaming and oc so again... it's excellent if you get it to do what it's designed to do.

1 out of 5 eggsNo suspend/resume in linux

Pros: Good price, seems to have most everything you'd need. This was going to be used for an XBMC build.

Cons: No suspend/resume support under linux. Seems to suspend, but when waking up only the fans spin. No video, no ssh, no keyboard, nada. Suspend/resum worked fine in Win7.

Other Thoughts: After spending a lot of time troubleshooting, trying different distros and BIOS versions, etc, I finally called Asus support. They offer no real linux support and suggested I just use windows instead.

Until/unless a BIOS update fixes this, this board is useless for me.

5 out of 5 eggsAnother Good ASUS MB

Pros: Very capable on mATX form. Easy Win7 Install.

Cons: AI Suite (a somewhat useful utility) auto starts via task scheduler.

Other Thoughts: It's a perfect board for my use. Installed Win 7 to Crucial M4 64gb ssd and i3-2100 with absolutely no problems. On board video completely adequate. WEI :
cpu 7.1
ram 7.5
graphics 5.5
gaming 5.9 (after gpu boost)
hd 7.9

Note board has hdmi, usb3, uefi (great if you've never seen it) but no pata and only 2 mem slots. In other words, a good, fast, cost-effective general purpose mb.

3 out of 5 eggsSurprisingly Weak from Asus

Pros: -Inexpensive
-UEFI
-Solid documentation

Cons: -Buggy BIOS (see notes)
-Poor support
-2 RAM slots

Other Thoughts: I'm a lifelong Asus customer (probably 8-10 mobos purchased thus far), but this has been the worst.

PROBLEM 1: If I leave a USB key in the machine on boot, it automatically tries to boot to it, even though P1 is set to my SSD. Even better - after removing the USB drive and rebooting, my SSD is no longer found. Must disconnect power to the machine and the SSD is found.

PROBLEM 2: If I touch anything in the "GPU Boost" section of the BIOS (for integrated GPUs), the machine instantly reboots.

I found the support on problem 2 to be particularly bad. I contacted ASUS twice, and received 2 inadequate replies:
Reply 1: "It depends on the GPU, as it is integrated". Huh, what does that even mean?

Reply 2: "Not much choice here: either revert to an older BIOS, or return the motherboard to place of purchase." Really? Thanks for the deep technical advice.

The gist: an inexpensive board which has become my worst Asus experience to date.

Average at best. (BIOS rev 10
