5 out of 5 eggsGood board but requires some work

Pros: Does everything it says on the box, AFTER the BIOS update.

Very convinent to update BIOS with the update tool givin. (from windows)

Cons: Board will not function corectly unless you update to the most current BIOS.

Other Thoughts: Normaly i never play with the BIOS unless there is a serious problem. I can't stress enough the importance to update the BIOS for this board. I had everything working with a CPU Core i7-4820K, 480GB SSD, and a GTX 770 2GB video card but something was causing extream lag in the system. I updated everything multiple times and reinstalled Win 8.1 multiple times. I finaly gave up and as a last resort updated the BIOS the updates include SSD, PCI E buss, and system stability adjustments, I was taught never to touch the BIOS unless there was no other choice, But for this one you need to.

Otherwise worked perfectly.

Still give it a 5egg review. although not very convinent to the consumer, i still belive it is our part to keep everything updated and understand the equipment we buy.

1 out of 5 eggsI'm Confused

Pros: I don't know

Cons: Won't Post

Other Thoughts: So, Asus is trying to be all things to all people. They now have many, many BIOS (Basic Input Output System) updates that you'll need to make their board work. Oh, you'll also need to understand this: This is an actual response from Asus after this card wouldn't post with a Intel CPU they claimed was supported:

I've responded a number of times. Now I just want an RMA.

"Dear Edward,

Thank you for contacting ASUS Customer Service.
My name is Lijay and it is my pleasure to help you with your problem.

Sorry for your trouble!
Is your CPU Core i7-4820K ?
This motherboard is supported since BIOS 4210.
Please flash BIOS as this follow:
1,If your BIOS version is 1203 or older, please install the BIOS Converter and then the converter will update BIOS to 2002.CAP.
2,Download the BIOS Renamer utility, put Bios file and Bios renamer in same folder, execute the Renamer utility ,the utility will rename the file automatically in OS.
3,Copy the renamed BIOS image file into the root directory of the pre-prepared USB pen drive(FAT 16/FAN32/NTFS).
4,Connect the USB pen drive to the USB BIOS Flashback port on the motherboard.

Manufacturer Response:

Greetings,

Thank you for providing your valuable feedback on our motherboard. To help improve our customer support, I will make sure to notate this experience and make sure to pass this information along. Moreover, I am very sorry that it took so long to find a resolution to this case.

If the motherboard has an earlier BIOS installed, as you know already, you can update it using the USB BIOS Flashback port. For your reference, we have a how-to guide online that could help you with future BIOS updates, which includes the file name needed for the system to read the USB drive. Also to see what CPU is supported for this model and what BIOS is needed to run it, please see our CPU support list on our website. Below I included both links. Should you have any other issues with the system, please let me know, and I will be happy to help.

1 out of 5 eggsBuyer Beware

Pros: Slick interface when working.

Cons: -Customer service
-Product support
-Quality Control

Other Thoughts: Got this 3 days ago, will boot up once perfect, run perfect, but as soon as i restart/reboot the VGA_LED comes on and the computer boots without video, power down the computer remove the power cord, wait for the LEDs to go out, then unseat the VGA card and reseat it and the computer will boot perfectly. (Did this with 3 VGA cards, GTX270 GTX470 and a GTX780 each one does the dame thing.)
called up customer service since the tech support chat was down, was told by customer service that all 3 VGA cards I'm using was unsupported and therefore I'm not entitled to a working Mobo. after I asked why they weren't supported the customer service rep told me that they had different architecture. that would mean that no nvidia card would be supported by this Mobo. After talking to this Service tech for 15-20 mins I asked for my call to be escalated, he said i would have to hang up and call back since there was no way for them to transfer to other people. after telling him that that didn't make sense since there was no options after picking mobo support he told me to hold, 30 mins later he told me he contacted his managaer and they will be calling me back after 1 hour. 2 hours later with no call back im writing this review to warn others.

IF YOUR USING A NVIDIA BASED CARD DO NOT BUY THIS MoBo!

at this point I'm gonna contact newegg and see if i can change it for another Mobo by a different manufacture.

2 out of 5 eggsBAD EXPERIENCE

Pros: This is a GREAT board....if it works

Cons: I went through 3 of these board before I got a fully functional one so with this particular board it is hit or miss. Make sure to TEST ALL of the RAM slots to make sure you don't have a bad board.

Other Thoughts: Make sure to thoroughly examine the processor slot before install and before returning...take a picture even... I had my claim rejected because of a single bent pin due it improper packaging.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for your review.

I am sorry that it took two RMAs for you to receive a working motherboard. With that said, I am glad the motherboard is working as expected now. In the future should you need any assistance, please let us know. We are here to help. Your reference number for this case is 3133408.

4 out of 5 eggsIt's good.

Pros: USB BIOS updating. I've always had good luck with ASUS motherboards and this appears to be no exception.

Cons: If you plan on windows-only then this does not affect you: #1 Secureboot does not play well with linux and there's no obvious way to completely disable it. (took away 1 egg)

#2. Had to load a new BIOS before it would boot.

Other Thoughts: Paired with an I7-4820k and required a BIOS update before it would boot. Put ONLY the Converter BIOS .ROM and a new BIOS .CAP on the same USB flash drive (single FAT32 partition) before it would properly update to work with the new Ivybridge-E cpus.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Board

Pros: Easy install, easy setup. Basic and advanced bios options are great to just get going then later dive in. Bios has just about everything one could want. Don't listen to the armature prior reviews. This is a solid board.

Cons: as with just about any board the 1x and 2x pci-e slots are covered by the heat sink of most video cards which makes them unusable.

4 out of 5 eggsBEST BOARD EVER!!

Pros: I used this board for my first build. Everything workerd perfectly.

Cons: The normal fan speeds were very slow at default, so fix that in the BIOS if you don't want your CPU burnt.

Other Thoughts: I just really love this board.

4 out of 5 eggsGood mid-grade board for your average user or gamer!

Pros: Bought this board as a MB/cpu combo deal. I would rate this a mid grade board great for your average computer user or gamer. The GUI they are using in the BIOS these days is great. In simple mode easy for anyone to setup but advanced mode is great for tuners.

Cons: Lacks some features for hard core gamers or in professional applications. The board doesn't seem to auto detect the correct bus speed for the ram and when you set it manually it fails to boot. Bios update doesn't fix the issue.

Other Thoughts: I have owned Asus MB's since the late 90's, back when they were on top of their game and no other company came close to them. They slipped in quality a few years back and they have never totally recovered. Crazy lil bugs is something that is common now for them. It sucks but thats how the whole industry is today anyways and in the end Asus still makes one of the better products so we kinda put up with it.

2 out of 5 eggsWhat a Mess...

Pros: Easy Install ... manual is good ..easy to follow ...

Cons: A P9x79 with a super set up..SSD's and all the goodies... machine would not boot past the Asus Logo ...Pulled all the memory plugged in a single strip ..was OK ..plugged in the second memory strip, machine would not boot....
Took tech service 4 days to figure that somebody put the wrong label on the board and box...Tech said my numbers were not a P9 ..so after sending 4 emails over 10 days with pictures they agreed to fix the board...as they thought it was a bogus MB

Other Thoughts: In the meantime I bought a second p9X79 ..this installed and worked fine ..like a rockership ..then this AM would not boot.... Did all the DIAG's etc...Bad MB ...But arriving this week was my old P9 ..so I swapped, only to find out that the CPU cooler mounting bracket was missing...
Tech told me if I sent it in on the RMA MB they threw it away...so I pulled it off todays dead MB and slipped and broker a cap off the board...so it's going into file 13..lost $250.00. But got the mount on and getting ready to go into the config... So three months and I may have a new computer..BUT this is not ASUS, I've had dozens of MB's from them with no problem, just guess the P9 bit me on the rear side...

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Sorry to hear that you had to go through this big mess. I hope you are able to get this frankenstein up and running. Sorry to hear that you broke the cap of the board.

If you have any questions or comments you can email me again at cl-jeffrey@asus.com which I reside in the U.S

ASUS strives to meet and exceeds our customer expectations within our warranty policy.

Jeffrey

5 out of 5 eggsthe best mobo ever

Pros: Very clean set up, the guide is extremly self explanatory. Best of all, the bios is easy to use and very helpfull

Cons: The price, but for 2011 socket and the quality of this mobo its worth it

Other Thoughts: So far i have zero problems with it, it controls the power properly and does eveything well. Id recomend nabbing the warranty just to be safe.
