4 out of 5 eggsProblem free for me

Pros: Lots of high-end features for a microATX board, particularly for LGA2011, just like the rest of ASUS's full-sized ROG boards for X79 chipsets.

Cons: Reliability issues.

Other Thoughts: Nobody is really going to be buying too many of these anymore with the release of the Haswell-E CPUs and the X99 chipset. However, if you've got a Sandy Bridge-E or Ivy Bridge-E CPU and want a compact system, this is really your only choice.

Yes, the board has had reliability issues. The one I acquired (as payment from a family member for IT work I did for them) was already an RMA replacement for one that failed to actually boot at all. Thankfully, this replacement seems to be working just fine and was shipped out with a BIOS new enough to support the 4930k out of the box. Even if it didn't, ASUS thoughtfully provides the BIOS Flashback functionality to update the BIOS without needing a CPU or a single stick of RAM installed.

Now I've got a microATX powerhouse to replace a mid-tower, full ATX, LGA1155, Z77 system that I built about two years ago.

1 out of 5 eggsX79 chipset is not soldered down well

Pros: Only mATX board for 2011 socket.

Cons: Starting getting Windows blue screen crashes on USB ports and ports not functioning sometimes. Also did a complete Windows re-install because of the craziness with USB ports and flash player causing major system load for some odd reason when getting internet through USB wireless adapter. The windows re-install was near impossible to do because the board did not recognize any drive for Windows to install too!

Re-install did not solve the issues either. So I put on an O-scope to the USB ports and what do I see? TONS OF ELECTRICAL NOISE. I believe the solder balls under the X79 chipset are coming loose because my board did have this issue until recently and I purchased this board when it first came out. So the thermal cycling has most likely caused solder balls to loosen up, which may also explain why I am seeing tons of electrical noise.

ASUS needs to find a way to stop the solder balls from loosening and they need to cool this X79 chipset down WELL. This chip gets super hot!!

Other Thoughts: If you use a USB wireless adapter and your flash videos are suffering from micro-stuttering, then it is most likely being caused by the X79 south-bridge chip loose solder joints that go the USB ports!! It is not a software fault of Adobe flash. To help overcome this, either disable C600/X79 USB hub controller #1 or number #2 (make sure the one you disable does not have the keyboard and mouse attached). This fixed the flash video micro-stuttering issues and crashing stopped.

1 out of 5 eggsStill DOA after two RMAs

Pros: Ran well for two weeks.

Cons: I 'downsized' from an Asus P9X79 to this microATX to fit my Thermaltake Urban case. After several trouble free . weeks I reset the BIOS to Default after playing around with various fan options. The board failed to post after this and generated - Q LED = VGA, Debug Table = 64 (CPU Initiation is started) error diagnostic codes. Swapped DIMMs, VGA card, no go. PSU fan spins, CPU gets warm.
Cleared CMOS, download newest BIOS, flash, no post. RMA'd board. 'Repaired' board lasted less than a day one day; Blue Screen, no post. Now we have Q LED = CPU and Q table = 00. Tech support suggests reflashing BIOS. No help there. Is a third RMA a charm?
This is my first ever negative experience after nearly two decades of being a happy Asus user.

Other Thoughts: Had to purchase an Asus Gene VII motherboard to keep me going while this board does the FedEx shuffle to the Asus Indiana Depot. No problems to date.
I sleep better at night knowing that ASUS is not sourcing Aerospace or Medical Equipment . .

1 out of 5 eggsPoor Q&A

Pros: Great form factor. Superb BIOS.

Cons: Second Failure within within two months. After two days of operation I set the BIOS to 'Load Optimized Defaults (F5)' in order to establish an overall temperature profile (running this build in a Thermaltake Urban SD1).
Result = unable to reboot - system hangs with Q LED = VGA. RMA'd to ASUS. Two weeks later I get the board back without a diagnosis/repair summary.
Today several file copy errors while backing up and then the system froze. Reboot' Q LED = CPU, Q Code 00. CPU gets power (warm), fans spin, but dead in the water. Swapped power supplies - no dice.
Very dissappointing as I'm a huge fan of ASUS - tablet, notebook and numerous motherboards over the past twenty years

4 out of 5 eggsWorks Great only after Updated

Pros: It's a solid motherboard, once working no issues and was able to overclock without any problems. The ROG connect is a great feature, and without it I would have been out of luck with the CPU I got.

Also own a Maximus V Extreme. Rampage and Maximus are very good boards.

Cons: The box, manual, and site say it is compatible with Intel Core i7-4820K Ivy Bridge-E, however they do not mention this requires a BIOS update to work. Even after directly asking tech support on the phone, they suggested RMA and said that I wouldn't need to update the BIOS. On the plus side, Motherboard has a readout saying what the problem is, there is a line of LEDs and one that says CPU will remain on if it can't read it properly.

Other Thoughts: When you download the bios from the website, which can be hard to navigate and find the right one, they have a rename program. The program should rename it to R4G.CAP, if it renames it to something else you probably don't have the right flash file. I also learned the hard way that the Mobo doesn't seem to read large Flash drives, I had to use an old 2gb after the 16gb kept showing it wouldn't read the file.

5 out of 5 eggsThis Board Is Da Board

Pros: Bios is all pros
flashing bios, saving settings all pro
Low Heat high clk's
4820k ivy-E 4.8 water, everything moves as fast, fast as you click the mouse.

Cons: None Currently, no pre-configured water coolers for chipsets. I believe used in hwbot competitions, they might like something like that. Doesnt have 8 memory Dimm's and memory with more GB is expensive. Then fast memory with more GB is really expensive. Dilemma's

Other Thoughts: When You turn on for the first time, you may not have any display. need to flash bios. Very easy thing to do, just have a usb flash drive when you purchase.
********** In manual it states bios is a ROM file, using USB Bios flash back this did not work. Save bios as a .CAP and it works great. Freaked me out for like 10 minutes !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then I'm kind of a everything on auto except bare necessitys bios guy. But I found that Increasing Voltages greater than auto will help system stability and help with sleep issues. Up to user but a little time adjusting goes a long way. I dont think its starving, V+ but just needs a little boost. I dont know the terms for for the voltages but slowly play with voltages on lower cpu configuration. possible night and day difference.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat MB

Pros: Very Good MB . It is my main Workstation , Stable and I think is the best microITX money can buy today for socket 2011. Too Many things are good about the motherboard to mention including the "dinosaur" PS2 port like other customer called which is very important to have for every geek who knows his stuff.

Cons: Here Are the Cons: Esata doesn't work properly. Has only 1 PS2 instead of 2. Sata connector facing to the side or the board is very helpful for specific Cases but make it nightmare for the other mitx case which is suppose be use. they could just put is facing you and that would work for any case.

Other Thoughts: It's advance MB capable to use 12 core CPUs, which is $3000 just the cpu by today's market. It's is for advanced user who may have to change bios to accommodate their cpu, or do specific RAM combination to make it work, but if you know what you are doing it's the only mitx out there to fit this scenario.

5 out of 5 eggsNew one works

Pros: the only real motherboard that is matx and s2011 lots of options and amazing build quality

Cons: had some issues with the last one that i had and asus customer service is the worst joke ive ever dealt with i called them a few times and they were unhelpful and possibly rude, if i wasn't forced to use asus on this build i would have switched to a different manufacture due to the fact that their warranty is useless becuase its almost impossible to get an RMA i ended up just purchasing a new one due to the old one not working right..

Other Thoughts: shame on you asus this will be the last board i purchase from you after many many years of being a happy customer..
