1 out of 5 eggsNever again

Pros: Works for Win7.

Cons: No Support for Win 8.

Other Thoughts: I bought this board for a low power Win 8 build. After the official release of Win 8, Asus support informed me that there will be no Win 8 drivers available. My first and only Asus purchase. Never again, I will stick with MSI.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat little board, but one fatal problem

Pros: Hardware
This is a great combo board at an excellent price. The board stays cool enough during idle operation in spite of not having a fan installed. I put a case fan in anyway, and it keeps it really cool. Any ambient breeze will cool this bad boy down.

Software
Installation went very smoothly, even with drivers on ASUS' site not yet supportive of Windows 8 (compatibility mode for the win).

I use this in an HTPC set up running (as I mentioned) Windows 8 and XBMC. XBMC can run 1080p without barely any issue, except the occasional stuttering when streaming video from RAR files (I recently reformatted with an updated bios and deferred audio to DTS, which may have solved this problem).

Cons: When updating the BIOS recently it rendered Windows 8 unbootable. I had to reformat and reinstall, which was a huge pain in the booty (and yes, I switched the BIOS setting from IDE back to AHCI before rebooting!).

Another thing the BIOS update did was seemingly break USB 3.0 support. Prior to the update, and on my other PC, I can use an external USB 3.0 disk drive fine. But now Windows complains that it's not running in 3.0 mode when I plug the drive in. This really sucks, especially considering it worked prior to the BIOS update and on my other machines.

I tried using different driver versions to no avail. Sucks.

Other Thoughts: I'm hoping ASUS doesn't point the finger at Windows 8, because I know it isn't Windows 8 since worked before reformatting. ASUS needs to support Windows 8 eventually!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat HTPC

Pros: Silent HTPC. Attached this via HDMI to a 46 inch Samsung 1080p tv. Plays video flawlessly, without skipping. The GPU doesn't break 40% use decoding full 1080p . Paired with a Crucial SSD for snippy and silent HTPC.

Cons: Since there is no fan on the CPU, temps can rise based on room temp. In the winter I have this OC'd to 1850mhz without issues. However in the summer my apartment gets warm, @1850mhz temps can push the 60 degree mark. I turned it back to stock clocks and temps run a nice 40 degrees under full load, still plays video without problems. Not very overclockable but what do you expect.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Handles most applications well. Bootable driver CD includes useful utilities like Windows XP (F6) AHCI driver floppy creator. Operates on battery power from m4-atx power supply. Analog VGA works through cheap DVI-I adapter.

Cons: Heat sink too hot to touch. When fanless, locks up if room ambient over 95degF. Unstable uefi reboots. For a low power board suitable for embedded applications, it requires a large number of power supply connections. EATX 24pin plus 4. Cannot use picoPSU 20pin.

Other Thoughts: Installed Windows 7 64 UEFI boot on GPT SSD from USB DVD drive. Routinely failed to restart upon any software installation. Had to enter UEFI, select Windows Boot Manager manually, then it would start up. This problem has disappeared since Windows update June 12, 2012.

5 out of 5 eggsHTPC or mid range pc BUY!!

Pros: dual core apu, built in BT, build in Wifi, Very good on fanless thermal distribution, supports 8GB ddr3, video upgradeable via PCIEx16 low profile, honestly what more could you ask for. Currently its played everything i've thrown at it from 480i to 1080p videos in any format. And seems to run Diablo 3 fairly well on mid range settings and Battlefield 3 on low settings with stock video!

Cons: I didn't order 2 of them.

Other Thoughts: Case: Thermaltake Element Q
MB: ASUS E45M1-I Deluxe AMD E-450
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB)
HDD: OCZ Vertex 3 VTX3-25SAT3-60G 2.5" 60GB SATA III
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit
Boot Up: 15sec cold boot

5 out of 5 eggsGreat All In One Mini ITX Board

Pros: All in one solution, HD Graphics that can support 1920x1080 flash video, Built in HDMI, Bluetooth, Wireless, USB 3.0. Takes 8GB of G.Skill DDR3 1333 without any issues.

Cons: CPU does feel a bit sluggish as suggested by other reviewers. This is particularly noticeable during Windows update process. During normal operations (i.e., web browsing, music playback) the CPU is doing a respectable job.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Little Giant ITX

Pros: Now from an HTPC stand point this is perfect for your build. Quiet no fan passive cooling keeps the motherboard cool even touching the heat sink there isn't much heat generated. Video is great no stutter whatsoever with internet video or 1920x1080p at 60hz video. Built in Wifi pulls in a great signal, too many good things to list about this board. Build quality is perfect as always with Asus boards.

Cons: none, except the CPU could be higher in frequency from 1.65ghz to at least 2.13 ghz or 2.5.

Other Thoughts: With demanding software nowadays I wish Amd had made the APU E450 a bit more higher on the CPU section, rather than 1.65ghz why not go to 2 or 2.5ghz. Having used a Foxconn D2700 Atom this beats the pants off that unit and the Foxconn had gone back for uselessness.

2 out of 5 eggsDoesn't do Netflix HD

Pros: All in one APU design, quiet due to no fan, low ITX footprint, plenty of connectors including 802.11n.

Cons: Sluggish processor but decent GPU. This thing cannot do Netflix HD because Silverlight is so CPU intensive, so do not buy this if you plan to use Netflix. Bluray movies hiccup sometimes but not much. I have returned this due to it not being able to handle Netflix HD; not only that, the computer is a bit too sluggish.

Other Thoughts: Decent for a lower end HTPC.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for the feedback.

If you experience stutters/hiccups with Blu-ray discs or high definition content, please try to turn on hardware acceleration in your media software to offload video processing to the Radeon HD 6320 GPU.

We also have the P8Z77-I Deluxe, P8H6-I REV 3.0, and the P8H77-I motherboards capable of using more powerful Intel socket LGA 1155 CPU's in mini ITX form factors. Please visit http://usa.asus.com/Motherboards/ for more information.

Benson

5 out of 5 eggsGood Motherboard

Pros: Looks like it is discontinued, but I really like this Motherboard. It is a great HTPC motherboard, handles any video that I have thrown at it.

Cons: Gets a little hot, but that is how AMD usually is.
