2 out of 5 eggsFeatures Work- Except Bios Clock

Pros: Primary Features work as intended, and AI Suite 3 has a large amount of useful features such as overclocking via the software.

Wireless AC on board is a nice touch, especially as it can be used as a router.

Cons: I've been having an ongoing issue with my Bios Clock freezing up on this motherboard, roughly every two weeks it happens where I am forced to reset the CMOS in order to maintain the correct date and time on my computer. It may seem as if it's a minor inconvenience, however when it begins to impact all time and date stamps it does cause an issue.

I began my attempts at working with Asus tech support in hopes to resolve this issue that is documented online by multiple people. At first they appeared to be helpful, but we had already reset the CMOS. Flashed the newest BIOS and completed all steps outlined in their troubleshooting steps and the issue kept recurring.
At this time I requested an escalation as it appeared to be a software issue, it's currently been 6 days since I opened the ticket, and each time when I call back they suggest I reset the CMOS and that it is the only repair they currently have. I had reached out 5 days after my original ticket creation, which is when they had promised a reply by their level two technicians, and I had received nothing. The technician on the line suggested I reset the CMOS again. Later I was informed that I may never receive a reply from tier 2, and that the escalations in no way guarantee any response.

Other Thoughts: After my experience with Asus customer support I doubt I'll be returning to their product line. I've heard nothing but excuses regarding this product that has known issues impacting multiple people. My only suggestions to you, as the consumer is stay away from this motherboard as it appears there is a software glitch that Asus is unwilling to resolve.

Manufacturer Response:

3 out of 5 eggsAsus Z87 Deluxe

Pros: Very Good Performance, Many Features, Ran great while it worked.

Cons: Board Died after 6months, Dealing with Asus support was the worst experience I've ever had. After over 9 calls finally got them to RMA board. I've always like Asus boards in the past and had no issues, but from now on I'll buy others.

Other Thoughts: Asus support is pathetic !

Pros: Lots of ports. dual NIC.

Cons: Defective right out of the box - memory stick only works in A1/A2 channel, does not work in B1/B2 channel. Updated to latest BIOS version and tried MemOK, not working. RMA.

Manufacturer Response:

Greetings,

I am sorry that the motherboard is defective. I am glad, however, that you have a RMA in place. I am sure shortly, you will be having a working motherboard. Should the new system have any issues, please let me know, and I will be happy to help. 3393704.

3 out of 5 eggsI might have been fooled, buyer beware!

Pros: Beautiful, sturdy, spacious, feature rich, compatible, easy to work on.

Cons: Customer service and tech knowledge from ASUS is, in my opinion, extremely lacking - let the buyer beware! ASMedia USB 3.0 ports are nothing more than a hub. ASMedia SATA 3 ports (4 of them) are ONLY for data disks, and the performance is less than that of the Intel. Would almost be better to NOT have the ASMedia SATA 3 ports and add on a card at a later date.

Other Thoughts: I have had two of these boards. The first had random Windows 7 x64 freezes. ASUS suspected it was a VR issue and offered me a RMA for a refurb board... Seriously? $250+ for a new board only to pay to ship it back and get a refurbish product from the manufacturer? Thank goodness Newegg has a greater sense of customer service and commitment for the products they sell (Newegg took care of me and got me a brand new one). The new board is working fine, but have had to chat with tech support on several occasions about problems. I had a problem with AI Suite software, TPU, not showing the right BCLK frequency that CPUz, BIOS, and Realtemp were. 4 techs, 3 disconnects from the chat room, and the 4th proceeded to send me to web sites about overclocking and benchmarking the board. I asked if the Intel Management Engine software IS required for the AI Suite to function normally - he said it was not. So I installed it anyways and it resolved the inconsistency. I was then offered a "Test Report" to go to Engineering. Having entered one weeks ago regarding the FAN power/noise issues, and not heard back, I have come to feel that these "Test Reports" are nothing more than lip service to make the customer feel like something is being done on their behalf to make up for the lack of the T1 knowledge of the tech you dealt with. I have spent over 40 hours trying to get a stable install, stock/auto settings with a Core i7 4770K. Although quite a bit more simple, the Intel (foxconn) boards were always stable right out of the gate. Is this a bad board? I still have to say, No. It works, but I have never had so many problems with a motherboard before. I have never had to use customer service or Tech support from a motherboard company before. I have to say, that sadly, I see what everyone has complained about in other posts about ASUS customer service. ** Bottom line: The motherboard IS feature rich. It has the settings to overclock and the ability to do so. But a VERY patient and experienced person IS required if you want to build a top notch powerful build. If you are not using a K processor, perhaps you will have an easier time. I have the K, I am not overclocking, and it's been a pain. I have some buyers remorse on this one and not sure that I would want to chance ASUS again in the future. I am removing 2 stars for their customer service and apparent lack of knowledge by their tech support. Please ASUS, I hope you improve. I find myself embarrassed for ever recommending ASUS and for previously recommending this board to others as I did in my first board review from Newegg.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat board! Problems with server drivers...

Pros: Great board, runs perfectly with i7 4770K and 32GB G.Skill RAM. Using it with Windows Server 2012 R2.

Cons: The main problem with all Haswell boards - no driver support for server OSes. This is completely messed up by Intel.

Other Thoughts: The only drivers that I could not install at this point is Bluetooth. Everything else including Wi-Fi, Intel NIC, sound works. If you try to run Asus provided software, it will refuse to install any drivers on server OS. To install everything you would have to Google for solutions and have sufficient expertise in working around this problem by manually installing every driver. Initially, I had problem with Intel NIC, audio, Wi-Fi, bluetooth (still an issue). To connect to VGA, you would need DisplayPort to VGA cable.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Top not stability and overclocking potential. Never had a problem with it besides my own faults (Not seating RAM down enough).

Cons: Ai Suite is absolute junk, do not use it. I screws up the bios and literally makes it useless. Also the 4 Way optimization is way over its head. It overclocked my cpu (i5 4670k) close to 4.8 Ghz and called itself stable. It also sets voltages for both CPU and RAM; both are way too high. Be aware this overrides anything you set in the bios, which is pretty annoying.

Other Thoughts: Board itself is great, bios easy to navigate. Software Blows. Too much Hype.

2 out of 5 eggsPoor Experience

Pros: Features, ASUS reputation

Cons: Board came with faulty chipset, RMA experience is not good for a $285 board :( Support is poor and very frustrating..

Other Thoughts: I purchased this board for a 4770k build. 32GB of Patriot CAS 10 1866 ram, H60 water cooler, etc..

Completed the build and the system freezes momentarily once every 4-8 hours of use. Spent a month and a half reinstalling windows with various drivers, swapping out PSU, graphics card, ram and even got a new hard drive.. Use it a day and it freezes. Countless trips to local retailer..

So I call support, which is spotty, sometimes very helpful, sometimes whoa its bad. Im striving to be polite and punctual with information. I RMA and they find a chipset is bad (never found out which one). After fixing still arent happy and send me a used replacement board. To get this info, even if you log into their RMA site, took calls with long holds and varying service... I receive the board, post it and there is my custom logo I uploaded to bios.. Apparently they sent me back my original board. I called in and after the upteenth 15 min hold, the lady assumes they possibly sent me the old board.. She offers to ship me a replacement, she called "Advanced with Tracking" and when I receive it, I am to ship mine back. GREAT, 5 min of hold and her typing later, and she changes that to I need to call in and if and when they find a replacement, possibly in 2 days possibly 10 or more, we will cross ship the product leaving me without a board for another week.. The first RMA experience took 2 weeks. Now I am to call and see when they have a replacement board..

I regret not returning the board to local retailer in the first month, I assumed it was drivers or another componenet. I now plan to buy a new board, RMA this one and when I get it back, sell it.. I don't really have the $300 to float tho until financial aid comes in.. Super Bummed as this is the priciest board I have ever purchased.

Manufacturer Response:

Greetings,

I would be happy to help. Please contact me through email, and I can check the status of your ASUS RMA. My email is cl-mark@asus.com. Within the email, please include your RMA number and the serial number of the motherboard. Your reference number for this case is 3315017. Thank you.

5 out of 5 eggsWOW, WOAH, WOW

Pros: Full of features, full of flexible configuration tweaks and options for the casual to the overclocker at heart. It's ASUS quality - you expect the best, you get the best (I don't work for any computer manufacturer or reseller), just a fan of good quality workmanship. 10 SATA 6 ports, Plenty of USB 2.0/3.0 ports

Cons: For the price, would like to have seen what some of the upper echelon motherboard models offered (like dual x16 x16 PCIe support - like the ASUS Z87 WS (but was leery of trying it due to some reviews). I'm not subtracting any eggs for that.

Other Thoughts: I’ve been buying ASUS motherboards since 1994. Their commitment to quality has been superb in my opinion. I can’t speak to their customer service as I have never needed their post sales technical support or RMA processes.
This motherboard has pretty much everything I wanted for my 4770K processor/build. I would like to have seen dual x16 PCIe support, but was leery of the product offerings from the manufacturers (and the prices that accompanied them). That’s the only gripe I have.
The motherboard layout is great and easy to attach cables to their respective spots. Using a Thermaltake TPG-1050, in an Antec 1100 case, I had NO issues with cable connection lengths.
It’s been a while since I used a feature rich motherboard, and all I can say is, WOW! The UEFI BIOS is easy to use and read, but if you are not experienced in such, it would be like stepping into a jet liner cockpit. All the controls look cool, but you may be scratching your head on which one starts the engine. If that’s still not clear, then let me say this – ASUS has paired the motherboard with a BIOS that has a great deal of settings to customize your system, geared mainly, in my opinion, for the overclocker. If you intend to buy a Z87 motherboard for basic use, this might be overkill for you. If you intend to overclock, then buy this one! I am still tinkering with the build, but I will tell you this – LISTEN HERE, this is important. If you are using high performance fans (1500-2000RPMs+) the fans WILL BE very loud until you install/run Fan Expert 2 software and have it detect your fan capabilities in the operating system. I am using CM Excalibur and CM Jetflo fans, and it was a bit annoying in how loud the fans were operating at. I prefer to run a light system when it comes to installing a manufacturers suite of utilities. In this case, it’s required. Once I ran the software, fans operating at 1500+ RPMs, now run around 1000RPMs and are very quiet. The motherboard comes with ALL 4 pin fan ports, 2 for the CPU (1 optional), plus 4 more aux ports throughout the motherboard (I prefer to let the motherboard control them).
I used a Zalman CNPS 14x heatsink with the CPU on this motherboard. It clears the motherboard components, and allows for 40mm or less height memory without losing any DIMM slots (you may have to play with the installation to get them all in depending on how big your memory/heatsinks are).
My requirements for a motherboard was a name brand that is synonymous with quality, overclock ability, flexibility, 2 way Crossfire and SLI support (not at the same time obviously), at least one PCIe x1 slot, 6 or more SATA 3 ports, and 6 or more USB 3.0 ports, and room for an aftermarket CPU cooler. This met my requirements and I would buy another of these in a heartbeat should the need for an 1150 socket motherboard arise.

1 out of 5 eggsFade to Black

Pros: I wanted to try I7-4770K and also get expandability to 2X SLI down the line. I also liked the 802.11 ac Wi Fi. Good looks also helped. I have had good experience with ASUS on 3 previous builds and have never had an ASUS motherboard problem over many years of operation..

Cons: DOA - wouldn't post, no diagnostic LEDs or error codes
ASUS support was terrible. Thanks to the Newegg return policy I am able to swap it for another one, but won't be going to SLI with this mobo.

Other Thoughts: Lot's of work to eliminate all other potential problems (power supply, BIOS, memory) before I could be certain it was the mobo. I hated to have to remove my Kraken X60 and I7 4770K to get board out so I could RMA it.

5 out of 5 eggsA fine motherboard

Pros: I purchased this board 8/2/13 after having gone through 2 MSI Z87 MPOWER motherboards that gave me nothing but trouble. (NewEgg item#N82E16813130691). The installation was a typical motherboard installation, with nothing unexpected. The system powered up, and has worked flawlessly since installation. For the extra $40, the lack of headache was worth it. I should have started with ASUS in the beginning.

Cons: Initially I had some difficulties with the USB ports, but after I installed the updated drivers, all is good. All I can assume is they rushed the release of the board before the software guys had all the bugs worked out. I updated the BIOS as well, just in case. The process is simple, and everything is available from the website.
